Green enchilada, half eaten because it was HORRIBLE...
    Leslye G.

Never again... this place had 4 stars so we thought we'd give it a try but that was our first mistake. Staff was nice, service was fast, music was good, but the food was horrible. I got the green enchilada... first off it was 1 enchilada made with a flour tortilla... chicken had a weird texture. The rice was instant microwaveable rice you can tell by the look at the flavor was sooo bad. The refried beans were just as bad, tasted like straight up water. Mind you this plate was around $30... save your money go elsewhere

We were anxious to try this new restaurant. My husband and I love Mexican food. We both ordered a drink;a beer and a margarita. We ordered the nachos with Al pastor. They were okay. I had the chili relleno with rice and beans. It was mediocre. My husband had a wet burrito with carnitas. It arrived at our table cold. He was told that the sour cream and guac cooled the other ingredients down. They graciously remade his burrito and put the cold ingredients on the side. I'm not sure if my expectations are high since we live in the central valley and always have awesome Mexican restaurant choices. We were not impressed. There were very few people in the restaurant for a Sunday night. We know of other Mexican restaurants in the area we prefer over this restaurant. We will probably not return unless they improve.

Had a super time at Hatch in the Barnyard, Carmel, with fantastic company measured equally by the food and service. I had the signature Hatch burger was absolutely phenomenal--a perfectly cooked, savory smash patty, as described by Edible Monterey Bay. It's great to see new places opening up with a point of view. Food was good, service was great, location and atmosphere's warming. We had the benefit of great company and even bumped into our old friends Sandy and John which underscored to us how attractive the right feel, value and causal dining can be for continued the locals interest. Only suggestion is a blender Carlos but seriously, major thanks and props to you for looking after us last night ! We did mis the eggs On this trip but will try the next time we are in, oh and we had a Nutella Churros to share which i didn't get a chance to photograph for yum yum reasons ! Highly recommended new restaurant to try out..

Saw a photo of this burger in Edible magazine and just had to try it out. They're still new so working out some kinks but the service was super friendly and the drinks were priced right so give them some time to iron them out! Hatch is located in the Barnyard and is well decorated and has a great southwestern vibe. There is a large bar and a few seats outside. There was even an indoor fire that I'm gonna have to come back to have a couple drinks by. Speaking of drinks a $10 paloma in this economy?? In a world of $20 cocktails this was a relief. My wife went with the classic marg which at $12 was still cheaper than an ASB Mai Tai IPA! Both drinks had good flavor but also felt like they could have used a touch more tequila. We both ended up getting the burger and it was super tasty. The meat really came through and wasn't overpowered by the hatch green salsa. Just don't put it down! It's almost impossible to pick back up in one piece. Overall well priced and a good vibe!

Food: The food was tasty! We had chicken wings for appetizer. Both the Buffalo and BBQ come with a lot of sauce, making it so delicious. Ask for extra napkins! Our main dishes were the Hatch Chicken Burrito, Chicken Protein Bowl and Street Chicken Tacos with a basket of fries. The serving portions were just the right amount. My mom and sister had to even take their leftover food to go. It's obviously not authentic Mexican food, but it's still good. Service: It was slow in the beginning. We came on a Monday evening. Our waiter did not come to our table till about 15 - 20 minutes after we were seated, but he did apologize, and he was hilarious! He had a great sense of humor. I wish I had gotten his name. He had glasses and a beard. Very nice guy! Cracking jokes here and there. That's why I am not giving four stars and still giving five! Ambiance: There is both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose outdoor. Quiet, serene atmosphere. Dog friendly, too! Overall, it was a great experience. And if you are staying at Carmel Mission Inn, it's walking distance!

We were excited to try a new restaurant. All the food was not good and we were so disappointed. The chips and salsa were great. The taco plate came with rice that was dry and crunchy. Maybe under cooked or the bottom of the pot? The beans had no flavor and even though there was salsa on the tacos, the meat was very dry. We noticed the buns of the burger and chicken sandwich were a bit over toasted and the Salad came with canned corn and guacamole on top instead of nice chard corn from the cob and fresh avocado. The drinks are not pictured but tasted of mainly juice or maybe they were a premix. Everything had the Carmel price point but nothing was worth going back for or paying for. We did order the appetizer of cornbread fritters that came out black. They were definitely left in the over for too long and dryer than scones. It is surprising when a restaurant has a hard time with every meal.

It was a little slow when I went but I have no idea why because the food was amazing! Jamie, who is a part owner, gave great recommendations and was very attentive to our table even though there were only 2 of us. My boyfriend and I both got the Red Chili Enchilada plate and the sauce, rice, and refried beans were SO good! Nothing tasted super greasy & the amount of food was perfect! Their chips and salsa were excellent as well. The spice level was perfect! Jamie was very sociable & thoroughly explained how the sauces and salsa were made too. They are also dog friendly and have a reasonably priced dog menu compared to other restaurants in Carmel. We'd definitely come back!

Yelp recommended I try this new restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed it. A friend and I had some catching up to do so we met for brunch. When I say we had a leisurely brunch, I mean it and the staff at Hatch were so kind and accommodating. Brad was our first server and helped answer questions and guide us through our menu selections. I had the nachos because why not?! They were delicious. My friend loved her huevos rancheros. We started with classic margaritas which were tasty, though my friend thought it was a little sweet. We moved on to the Gruet blanc de blancs--nice touch having this option to tie into the New Mexico theme. That was a perfect pairing for the sopapillas. My husband happened to be nearby so he joined us and had the tacos. He is from San Diego so he is very selective about tacos. He said the meat was very good, especially the carne asada. He did say it would have been better with two tortillas per taco instead of one so they don't break apart as easily. Overall, excellent experience and we will be back. Tip: you can't tell from the outside but the inside space is SO cute and there are many tables. There's also a nice bar with a fireplace just inside. The outdoor patios have heaters installed overhead which get very warm and cozy.

We stumbled upon this place as we were searching for a restaurant that wasn't American/Seafood - really wanted chips and guac! Their menu had so many great options, the location was great - located in the Barnyard. Our family enjoyed the nachos to start and enjoyed all our dinners. The staff was super friendly, and the restaurant was open on a Monday which was cool because most places weren't. Check it out you will love the vibe and food!

The owner Jamie and the server Brad were super nice. The ambiance was great - as someone who's family is from New Mexico, I was impressed. The food took a little, but was fresh. I had the Hatch Burrito (with short rib) and it was great.

They were incredibly nice and let us bring in our lovely puppy who behaved greatly. The ambiance was wonderful, lighting was nice, not too loud, and good vibes in general. The singular best thing we got was the Queso Fundido. Literally the best one I have ever had. I'm from Texas and have had a embarassing amount of Latin/Mexican food. We were so incredibly hopeful that everything was going to be at the same level. We also got the Salsa Trio to start which was great. We got some house margs, and a Pinada which were all great flavor, the margs seemed a little light on the alcohol, but overall good. For entree's the adults got Short Rib and Molcajete. The short rib itself was cooked great, but the sauce was very sweet and the chutney like topper was also sweet. I think it would have done a lot better with some more acid or heat or something. The Molcajete was very average and a bit overcooked. The kids got the tenders, which I wouldn't judge any restaurant on, that's just nice for kids to have. The other kiddo got the bean burrito. The flour tortilla was great but it was mostly cheese and just a few beans. We decided to send it on desert for some redemption and got Tres Leches, Flan, and Churros. The Churros tasted freezer burnt, the Flan was extremely over done and hard (not a Flan texture at all), and the Tres Leches was dense and pretty dry which was a bummer. All that being said, I would give it a shot. My sister was with me and said they had been before and really liked the enchilladas. I would go back and try some other things to give them a shot. The Queso Fundido was so incredible I would go back just for that to be honest. Anyways, we will be trying something else around the area tonight and hoping for the best!

Send me home hungry and bill me $$$ for 2, at least i get to stay in my PJs. I'm glad I stuck through with the original plan and was blown away by the endless mindfuck of plates that permanently altered my brain chemistry. In all seriousness, the menu itself doesnt seem too special: crabcakes, ceasar salad, creme brulee. Very unassuming and no real twists to it. BUT -- everything was executed to PER-FECT-SHUN and I found myself just shy of licking every. frikkin'. plate clean. No stone left unturned - in this case, not a single kernel of corn or garnish was left uneaten. I'll jump right to the food: - Half dozen raw oysters: honestly might be the more underwhelming dish of the meal only because the oysters didn't have much flavor. No brine. No sweet. The mignonette was so great though! it gave the oysters what it needed. Add a flake of salt and we're cookin'. - Caesar salad: Good all around. The assembly is what made it so over-the-top. The classic caesar but with ribbons of parm, light and fresh anchovies, whole thinly sliced loaf of crouton that held that salad up like a house of cards but crumbles to touch. I was picking up every crumb that tumbled off to the table and was audibly slurping the ribbons of parmesan. - Crabcakes: Not just another crabcake. The batter was crunchy but didn't make the dish heavy. a cooling and smooth avo creme. but OH MY GOD the grilled corn on the plate really made the dish shine! It added a nice sweet pop and smokiness that made the dish more complex. Not even assembled in a cute pile, just scattered little kernels on a plate got me out here picking them up one-by-one like a mere peasant dusting the sidewalk for nickels. yes, humble me chef. I had to apologize to the waitress who cleared my plate for how embarrassingly clean my plate was. - Thai mussels: A cliche of a mussel dish on every modern menu. I've had a lot of versions of this dish and this plate wowed me in that the mussels were simply cooked perfectly. the sauce was not thin, not too pulpy nor salty. The sauce actually penetrated the mussels. The mussels were fresh, and no empty shells, which is a low bar but so common to see these days. There might even be a couple straggling that i was able to fish from the bottom. Just a clean dish overall. The fries were the perfect accompaniment. The walls of the extra starchy and crispy fries grabbed alot of the sauce for dipping. So smart. - Beef cheeks: Perfect textures all around. It feels wrong to complain at this point but I wanted more unctuousness from the protein. The beef was actually a backdrop to the polenta and mushrooms. i wanted more fat, more melty gelatinous tendon bites. what it produced though was a perfect fancy gravy for the polenta - so creamy and perfectly seasoned. A leafy green here and there. The maitaki mushrooms were cooked perfectly, not greasy. I was really just scraping the plate for the polenta and grabbing a bite of beef cheeks as sauce. Not a bad way to live by any means. - Acai sorbet: I almost never order dessert at a restaurant. It tends to disspoint and overpriced but i have never trusted a chef so much with a full meal so of course i got TWO desserts. The acai was accompanied with raspberries and granola. Super fresh and light. The acai broke apart upon touch, didnt slide around eventhough it's on a plate, but the plate choice was nicely textured to grip the icy sorbet (WHY AM I THINKING ABOUT THEIR PLATE CHOICE??) Gronola was not clunky and added a (rice) crispiness rarely found in granola. Such great care and attention to detail. - Orange and Tarragon Creme Brulee: I looked at the creme brulee with distain. Why did we order a 2nd dessert when the acai sorbet was already perfect. Orange and tarragon sounds like they're trying to sound "complex" but rarely delivers on balance and impact. I cracked the torched sugar top and gave it a chance, knowing that i havent been dissapointed tonight yet... and CUE the hallelujah angels choirs. I looked my partner in the eye and audibly said "YUMMMM... TRY. THIS. NAOOO.". We switched from the acai to the creme brulee and never stopped until the sides were hallowed out and every crystal of torched sugar was scraped off the walls. The torched sugar top cracked with ease and stayed CRISPYYYY the whole time. The custard was smooth, thick but light, and packed with orange flavor that was fiercely tempered by the herbaceous tarragon. The one sliver of orange peel candy was not supposed to wow me with it's texture and left me wondering how they managed to get the cracker-like crackle without too much sugar and not leave it leathery?? What a way to end a meal. On my way home, I got a twinge of the orange peel left in my teeth and it instantly brought me back to the magic that was the Mission Bistro. and it was HOT.
