We dropped it off at 4:45 am for a 6 am flight. But because Bozeman Budget doesn't have employees onsite. You leave the vehicle with the key inside. They show drop off at 7:45 which likely when the employees show up and scan all the returned rentals. Then when I called customer service the lady told me I had to fill out documentation and show proof of my flights. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told one wasn't available for 24-48 hours. Then I decided to email. When I finished my email and hit send it said server error try again. My guess is they do this frequently and make it so hard that people give up.

We booked a full size car for 8 days starting 5/8/24. They did not have a full size available so…read moregave us a Pacifica mini-van. It was cold and rainy that day. When we got to Missoula the following day, it was warm and we found the air conditioner was not working. It was no longer tolerable when we got to Kalispel so we went to the airport. They only had a Pacifica or a truck available. We took the Pacifica and it was great until we got to Great Falls the following day. A message appeared on the screen while driving in heavy traffic-"pull over safely as this vehicle is going to shut down". It did shut down and would not start again. We called Budget for roadside assistance. They informed us it would be 1-1 1/2 hours until arrival and we would be charged for the service. After 20 minutes the car started. We drove to the airport and then cancelled the roadside service call. They said it would be awhile as they had to clean the car. We were given a Chevy Malibu. When we got to Bozeman the following morning to return the car, there was no one to check the car in and no one at the airport counter. We received the rental receipt via email. We were charged an additional $250 for a one way trip. When we called they said they would look into it and get back to us in 3-4 business days. The same day, we received another email charging us $104 for a tow service. I will never rent from Budget again!!!

Chris, the service manager, was very unpleasant to speak with and used tactics of intimidation, threatening to send the bill to collections without first having sent me the bill, to try to get me to pay $322 for the loose clip. I consider this to be normal wear and tear for a vehicle with 50,000 miles as opposed to accidental damage. Arguing with Chris was futile so I was able to get ahold of the General Manager, Steve Steinbrook, who reached out to me in a timely manner and was nothing short of understanding and professional. He dropped the claim immediately and sent me a confirmation letter releasing me from all financial liability. Steve, you get an A+ for customer service and turning the situation around with one short phone call. Chris, you get a big fat F and I hope you learn from this experience so you can better serve your customers.

Nate picked us up from the airport in a nice, black SUV, communicating exactly where we'd find him, helped load all our gear, and drove us to their office a few miles down the road. We especially appreciated that they require your own proof of insurance, via credit card or homeowner policy, and didn't try to upsell us everything under the sun. Fortunately, that did not happen, and not only that, the representative went above and beyond and got us a hybrid as we requested, the car had only 2,600 miles on it and was in excellent condition. On top of that, the representative did not try to up sell or swindle us into buying additional coverage since I had LDW coverage from Amex, which some other car rental companies (such as Fox) would have tried to do given the amazing rate I had managed to book at (only 1/5 of the current booking price).
