There's a huge garden to accommodate large groups and there's plenty of room inside the place too. The staff and owners are really friendly and can't do enough to make you feel welcome. Food wise, I can't recommend the steaks enough here. They source the meat locally and you can tell the difference in the flavour. The Sirloins are fantastic and the chef really knows how to cook it to order (you'd be surprised how many don't. Perfect place to head to on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Located on the fringes of Hassocks and overlooking a beautiful stretch of Sussex countryside (great for a post Sunday roast walk to preserve the waistline!), the pub has the advantage of space that Brighton establishments sometimes lack. You would be hard pressed not to find a parking space and the same applies to seating within. The pub provides a cozy bar including a pool table if you fancy stopping by for a swift pint, the 'Keymer' bar for a more relaxed beverage and a large, yet homely dining area if you have come to eat. I will come back to the food in a minute. In the summer, the expansive secluded garden is perfect for children to bomb about, or for those summer nights when the weather is pleasant (of course, a bit hit and miss in this country!). The menu is wide ranging (check the website for a current list of dishes) and offers traditional, quality pub food. A lot of the produce is locally sourced and cooked to order. Sometimes this does mean that you wait a little longer for your meal, but the wait is worth it in such a nice environment. This is a great pub to consider for a Sunday roast, especially if you live in Brighton and have access to a car. They will happily take bookings and also cater for private parties in the dining area. I would have liked to see a wider range of ales on tap, but they do try and keep a local brew or two in rotation. Aside from that, expect your regular range of alcoholic tipples on offer. Many moons ago, in my youth we used to walk to the Thatched from Burgess Hill for our Friday drinking sessions and I would still make that walk! I guess the one negative is the location if you are without transport, but if you do make the pilgrimage from the station, I believe you will be glad that you did.

The beef Stroganoff was fantastic and really tender. The staff are pretty welcoming and set a nice relaxed atmosphere so its a nice place to just pop in and chill out over a few beers.

This is a great pub a little bit off the beaten track in Keymer…read more Situated opposite a quaint 14th Century church, the pub follows suit and retains the inglenook fireplace and oak beams from it's early coach house inn days. The main bar follows the pub tradition of hanging random items from the ceiling and here you will find an eclectic range of toby jugs and tankards. There is parking out front and a large garden to enjoy a summertime beer, but the real reason for coming to the greyhound is the food. They serve gastro pub cuisine and I have eaten a number of very tasty meals here. You will get full waitress service and i would describe the menu as upper market classic English cuisine. The Sunday roasts are also good, especially the nut roast and they are accompanied by all the trimmings. You will pay between £8 - £15 for a main course, but seeing as the y source local, quality produce, this is about fair. There are also a good range of locally baked desserts to satisfy those with a sweet tooth, although I tend to go for the cheeseboard myself. Expect a good range of lagers and ales on tap and a respectable wine list. There are also quiz nights held on Monday's. All in all, a great pub bursting with character, which is run by friendly staff. It's nicely placed to have a little stroll around the churchyard opposite to work off the meal also.

There's not too many establishments that can boast some of the most interesting and beautiful…read moresurroundings as well as fantastic, friendly service and exceptional food. The Jack and Jill is such a special place for me, we used to go there at least a couple of times a month with friends and family. Its right at the foot of the South Downs and watched over by two massive windmills (aptly named Jack and Jill) which gives the whole place such a strong sense of great history. I'm not a veggie but before you order one of their amazing steaks, do try the Boursin stuffed mushrooms. They are very moreish!

It is really warm and pubby inside, perfect for drying out after a walk. However I think a great location has made them a bit complacent - the roast we had would have to have been something special to justify the £15 price tag (not including pudding extra at £5!). However, it wasn't. I went for the (well-cooked, though waver thin) beef, which came with a tiny amount of each of 7 different vegetables (why so many?), all boiled and a bit bland. From someone who works in the catering industry I suspect the roast potatoes were the frozen roast potatoes you can microwave. Another party had fish and chips which actually looked a lot better, but I'm just going on what I saw. Its hard to have roasts ready for customers at a moments notice (ahem . . . a week), but cmon, give it a decent try, or halve the price. Bit of a rip.

I know I say this every time I visit one of the Ginger restaurants but seeing as I have now visited…read morethem all I've finally made my decision on my favourite and it's definitely got to be the Fox. It's such a lovely setting, in a beautiful old thatched house in the middle of nowhere. (Hassocks but you'd need to drive or take a taxi from the town or station). I'm hot on my mood lighting and they had it lit perfectly in here, it felt proper dreamy. The staff are so pleasant, our beautiful waitress couldn't do enough for us and spoke to us like we were old friends. Before we sat down at our table, we decided to have a drink in the big comfy seats by the bar first which settled us in nicely. They don't offer much cider wise but have some tasty draught beers. We were seated and opted for a bottle of Malbec. The starters came out quickly and looked to die for. I opted for the crispy pigs head which was delicious, set off by the langoustine that had been brushed with rosemary. Unfortunately, I found a small hair on my plate but after still demolishing the food and discreetly telling the waitress, the chef offered me a complimentary pudding. Winning. For main course I opted for the guinea fowl which was hands down one of the best dishes I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Mouth-wateringly moist (ew sorry - I hate that word but there is no other way to describe it) with shredded wing meat in a crispy breadcrumb coating which added a dynamic texture, butternut squash purée, artichoke fondants and a morel jus... WOWEEE. An excellent combination - I was distraught to finish it. I rounded off the evening with a cheeseboard - the exquisite Balcombe Blue made another appearance which I was chuffed about, finished with Irish coffee and truffles. BOOM. OUSSHHH. If only there was a stretcher and a big fluffy bed upstairs to carry me into! I think they should definitely turn it into an Inn too. Gorgeous evening, will hopefully be back VERY soon! Recommend it for birthdays and cosy celebrations.

The food was nice but not the quality i had expected. The staff were polite and helpful and well presented. The decor was just how i had imagined, however a little un-kept (rusty windows with a draft although it was closed) but i suppose that's the cottage feel! I think if i hadn't walked in with such high expectations due to friends comments i may have given 4 stars.

Poor customer service…read more I had a disappointing experience here due to how a simple issue was handled. I ordered a fish dish without realising it wasn't a fillet (I don't usually eat fish). After trying to eat it, I found it very difficult to avoid the small bones. As I am nine months pregnant, this was uncomfortable and tiring. I politely asked whether the fish could be taken off the bone. The man who appeared to be in charge refused outright and lectured me in front of other customers. No alternative or solution was offered--just a dismissive "that's what you ordered" attitude. I accept that I may have ordered the wrong dish by mistake, but basic customer service (and just human-to-human kindness) involves empathy and an attempt to help resolve the problem. Unfortunately, the response I received was unsympathetic and unprofessional, and it left me feeling embarrassed.

This place calls itself a "pizza pub" so I had to order one. ordered the Quackery which had shredded duck with crispy skin and streaks of hoisin sauce. This is Peking duck pizza! Worth a visit if you are ever in Brighton!
