Arisu Anime is a fun store at Olde Mystic Village in Mystic, CT. The Totoro figurine outside…read moreimmediately caught my attention and when I walked in, there were life sized figurines of Naruto, Monkey D. Luffy, and Goku. There is a collection of anime, manga, origami kits, cloths, blind boxes, houseware, kitchenware, art and posters, figures, DIY kits, Funko pops, gatcha machines, and a plethora of other Japanese treasures. On the right of the store next to the outside deck with tables, there is a Japanese food market with authentic imported pre-packed Japanese foods like instant ramen, different kinds of Japanese noodles, Japanese grocery items, snacks and chips, sweets and candy and ice cream, Japanese drinks and anime theme drinks. By the registers, there are free arcade games to play. I took my time walking through the store and looking at everything. It could be overwhelming at first. I really liked looking at the Sanrio, The Studio Ghibli Collection, and Pokemon items. I learned after that Arisu means "Alice" in Japanese and it's a tribute to their first store "Alice in the Village" which is also located in Olde Mystic Village. If you're in Olde Mystic Village, definitely stop by and take a look at Arisu Anime and Alice in the Village.

If you're into anime, you've gotta check this place out. It's packed with figures, plushies, manga,…read moresnacks from Japan, and all kinds of cool collectibles. Last time I went, I grabbed some imported ramen and a cute pair of chopsticks. I'm planning to bring my kids next time since they're obsessed with anime and ramen. I thought it was cool that they have a little spot where you can make your ramen right there, and some people were even eating outside on the patio, it just adds to the whole vibe. I did notice that some stuff, like the Hello Kitty ramen I usually get at Target, was more expensive here, but honestly, the variety, the atmosphere, and how nice the staff is make it worth stopping by. We'll definitely be back, and I'll probably end up buying even more stuff next time.

So I went today after being in the area for a birthday party and I'll start with the good since…read morethere isn't much good to be had here. The comic selection is pretty great like there's tons here that you could look for hours and there's also so many other things collectibles to find here So ends the good When I say this place is overpriced I'm not saying by a small amount this place is crazy OVERPRICED asking upwards of 10-15 dollars for non key Batman legends of the dark knight books even tho you can get almost the whole run for 2 dollars a book. The condition of the priced books is also Horrendous! 20$ keys were COVERED in spine ticks but had 60$ price tags on them "uncanny x men 138" for 60 dollars when it has more ticks than a stray dog is highway robbery Lastly they have a HUGE sign outside that clearly states "we buy sell trade comics, games, cards" yet when I asked the guy if he was interested in looked at the books I brought he said "sorry our guy only does business online". So put that on your sign then Just stay away from this place it puts scalpers to shame with its prices of beat up comics

Every…read morespace is covered top to bottom with rows and display cases of modern and vintage action figures and toys from various eras. The prices are reasonable and not egregious like some other stores I've been to. There are plenty of lose figures for really good deals and many are complete with their respective accessories. The staff I met were offered to get stuff from way up on the high shelves for me to look at and were patient even when I decided to put things back. I found a vintage Mighty Max figure from 1971 and one staff member helped me figure out what it was via a google lense search. If you are a collector of vintage or modern action figures/toys there's something here for you.

I adore Maziply Toys…read more Every time we visit, the staff is wonderful. One staffer has the same name as my 7 year old daughter, Elise. Elise has gone above and beyond for my Elise - even helping guide her through the mirror maze when she was trying that on her own. I was slightly hesitant to not join my daughter in the maze, both because of her age and that she's Autistic. I'm really proud of her for enjoying the mirror maze without Mom by her side. I personally find the mirror maze a bit overwhelming visually - but 40 year old mom isn't the target market for that experience. Our routine is now ride the ride on animal vehicles, mirror maze, and a small toy before we leave. The ride on animals are great! $10 but my daughter gets bored before her time is up. Mirror maze is $7. They have you wear plastic gloves so that you won't leave fingerprints if you touch a mirror. There's also lazer tag, but we haven't tried that yet. What makes this store unique is the caring staff and curated toys available. It's large enough to have everything you need and a lot of options, but not be overwhelming. You can find a gift for any kid here, even just the young at heart. Even just window shopping is a delight - with a Lego T Rex and Kenex ferris wheel. Definitely worth shopping here over a big box chain. They have a free rewards program too, that gives you discounts based on your lifetime purchase value.
