The staff was lovely, but the kitchen must have been going down in flames. As the wait time for food increased, the waitstaff became less engaging and increasingly scarce. My shrimp could have been used to play handball they were so overcooked and rubbery. The flavor was nice I think? But I couldn't get past the texture, especially since it was the dish our server recommended. Fish and chips were solid. I think I'll stick to drinks next time.

We ordered the Donegal Seafood Chowder. While every pub seems to have this on the menu not all chowders are created equal. This generous bowl of creamy soup was filled with fish and shellfish and was well seasoned, hearty and delicious. A slice of brown bread comes with the chowder. This area is known for seafood so we decided to split the single portion of the Olde Castle Seafood platter, which was more than enough for two people. There is seating inside and outside. The restaurant has a series of small rooms and seating areas and has nice decor. The staff was friendly and efficient. The restaurant is located in the main square and is next to the castle. Prices were a bit higher than other restaurants but reasonable given the freshness and quality of the seafood.

Overall Value: This is good value and probably the best bet in the area. The food is good (though…read morecertainly not as good as other parts of Ireland), especially given the lack of other options, good portions, and friendly service. We actually came back for dinner two nights in a row, so that is a good sign. The Food: We had the chicken curry (€13.95), fish n chips (€15.45), and a half-dozen oysters on the first night. Generous portions. The fish was crispy and had pretty good flavor, I would recommend. The chicken curry was a little bland and forgettable, so I would pass. The chips were fine - we opted to get the curry with half and half (half chips/half rice), so that was a nice option. Need some rice to soak up the curry. The oysters were really nice and fresh, although not cheap, so that was probably a bit of a splurge. On the second night, it was their weekly Monday steak special, where you choose two steak dinners from a list for I believe about €25 (don't quote me exact price, but it was a good deal). We picked the 10 oz sirloin with peppercorn sauce, and the cock and bull (a dish with a strips of steak, chicken, mashed potatoes and fried onions). Both steak dishes were well cooked and had decent flavors, and at the price, I had no complaints. Space and Pace: A lively bar on both nights. Literally everyone orders steaks on steak night (who wouldn't?) so it was a bit more crowded. A nice place for dinner or a drink The Service: Really friendly staff, although they lost us for a bit when it got crowded.
