She forgot to punch in my daughter's order and my husband's. She corrected my husband's before she left the table but the kitchen staff had to bring her back to our table to verify what happened to my daughter's order. She had to punch it back in but never followed up. By the time the food came it was over 15 mins. She didn't give us napkins, or cutlery, and there was only 3 tables including us she was managing. The kitchen staff shared it was the server's issue not hers that the food was in correct. She forgot our water but managed to get the game cards. Then we couldn't find her to get cake. She handed over the bill and machine instead. I asked her for a cake or brownie so I could celebrate for my daughter and she said she couldn't do that. The bonus card was enough but that's not what I was asking for. So I felt forced to pay the bill I didn't ask for yet as the kids just only came back to the table. I asked for the take out containers. But she was standing behind me watching what tip I was going to punch in and at that point I didn't even want to tip her. I asked for her to get me take out containers again and she said she would after the bill was cleared. Waited another 10 mins and walked to the back where I saw her standing there with 2 other girls talking while she was doing nothing. So I just stared at her until she noticed. I had to ask her to hand me the take out containers. After that to went to management and complained about the whole experience. Said she needs to fix this and retrain that staff. Why are we spending $200 to $700 plus here with family coming here often but today on my daughter's birthday we couldn't even order more drinks or food because of her experience. Nothing was compensated or assured that this Valerie waitress would understand better customer service. Even the table next to us got their food and drinks before us. Horrible experience. In this economy I don't want to spend my hard earned dollars on poor customers service.

Sometimes you're in the mood for a lot of food at a reasonable price, and East Side Mario's certainly succeeds in that regard. I mean, we had just been seated when we were presented with two sizeable dinner rolls and a dish of butter. Like, we'd been in our seats for all of 10 seconds when this happened! And those rolls are admittedly quite tasty. They're freshly-made and piping hot, and the subtle garlic flavor does enhance them considerably. We also received two salads, one garden and one Caesar, and both of them were pretty decent, although the garden was underdressed and the Caesar was overdressed. Go figure. For my main, I decided to keep it simple, so I went with the Mario's Spaghetti & Meatballs ("Six delizioso meatballs nestled on top of Mario's Signature Tomato sauce"). It arrived a short time later and I'll admit the presentation (or lack thereof) was an immediate turn-off, as the dish was presented without any finesse or care that I could see (i.e. it was a bowl of pasta with a bunch of sauce and meatballs dropped on top). It tasted exactly how I thought it might, as though the tomato sauce came out of a can and the meatballs were cooked from frozen. I will admit, however, that the pasta was cooked surprisingly well, so I didn't entirely hate the experience of eating this dish. It reminded me of the kind of sub-gourmet pasta dishes I used to eat and enjoy as a kid. Will I return to East Side Mario's anytime soon? Unlikely. But it is nice knowing it's there.

We were with our 2yr old daughter and apparently this made no difference to them This is absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous AVOID AT ALL COSTS I would recommend retraining all staff in customer service. I'm still waiting for my food as I write this and after 40min have not been given any water... As an aside...at 630pm on a Tuesday they ran out of fries and chicken parm...what is happening here??

So I was pretty excited to check the place out on a recent Saturday evening. We didn't have a reservation and the place was quite crowded, so it was a surprise that we were seated at a comfy, two-person booth. We wound up sharing a couple of things: the Fiesta Salad ("Mixed greens, arugula, avocado, black beans, corn, grape tomatoes, pickled red onion, salsa verde, crispy corn tortillas, feta cheese, creamy lime dressing") and the Street Chicken Tacos ("Roasted Achiote chicken, shredded cabbage, cheddar cheese, Pico de Gallo, green onion, chipotle aioli, honey lime vinaigrette, cilantro"). Despite some regretfully slow service, the food arrived relatively quickly and was tasty. The tacos, while nothing mind-blowing, hit the spot and were elevated considerably by the available hot sauce. And the salad was well put together and full of quality ingredients. It's actually a bit of a relief to discover that Jack Astor's is almost exactly how I remembered it, complete with the server writing their name on the table in crayon.

It caters more to the sports crowd however, there were some tables off to the side in which were catered to those with smaller children, which was where we were seated. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a kind server, that brought us to our table, and allowed us ample time to choose our menu items. I had settled on the butter chicken with rice and naan, while my son had the mini sliders with fries, my daughter had the kids' mac 'n cheese, and my mother had the fish tacos with nachos. I really enjoyed the butter chicken; the taste was excellent however, there were too many onions. I found that most of the butter chicken dish was overpowered with onions, which I didn't like. However, after scooping the onions away, it tasted great! I loved how the dish included rice and naan, such a great addition, and there was a lot of it as well! My daughter's mac 'n cheese was straight from the box, and was a tad expensive for what was given to her. We found some of the food items to be a bit pricey, especially for the children's menu however, the food was quite delicious, and the service was top-notch! The only issue was the parking, as there are many condos in the area, and finding parking is hard, even early in the morning. I will definitely give this place another try however, I may park at Square One and walk the next time.

Unfortunately, the experience behind the scenes tells a very different story. The biggest issue isn't the staff as they work hard and do the best they can under difficult circumstances. The real problem is a lack of support from management. The restaurant often appears understaffed, and scheduling doesn't seem to provide employees with the help they need during busy periods. Even more concerning is how management handles abusive patrons. I've witnessed customers become verbally abusive and borderline physically intimidating toward bartenders and servers. From what I've observed, this has contributed to high staff turnover. On more than one occasion, I've seen employees leave in tears while managers were nowhere to be found or appeared to avoid dealing with the situation. The fact that loyal regular customers have had to step in to calm situations and support staff speaks volumes. Employees should never have to rely on patrons to help keep situations under control or to feel safe at work. This business has tremendous potential because of its prime location, but "location, location, location" will only carry it so far. Dear management: it's time to step up. Support your employees, ensure they have adequate staffing, and create a safe, respectful environment for both staff and guests. Your team deserves better, and so do your customers.

The modern, chic decor sets a wonderful ambiance, and the service was immediate and welcoming. The food was spectacular from start to finish. We started with fresh, warm bread, followed by a flavorful seafood gumbo loaded with meat, and a generous portion of two lightly breaded crab cakes. For our mains, the 10oz ribeye and 8oz tenderloin were seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection--compliments to the chef! They came with a lovely side of baby potatoes and vegetables. We capped off a perfect meal with a warm pecan tart and ice cream. I highly recommend coming here. We noticed they have a pizza oven and plan to add pizza to the menu soon; we already can't wait for our next visit to try it out! There are specials that change weekly. The interior is decorated with New Orleans memorabilia, medium lit, cozy (not large), with jazz music in the background. Service was attentive and friendly. They operated for 30 years at their old location. This location soft-opened on 2026-02-12. We came on 2026-02-25 for dinner. There were still some furnishings to complete (there were unforeseen delays). They kept the same menu offerings but it will be expanded within a month. We ordered the following: 1. Citra Terre D'Abruzzo Pinot Grigio - Italy (glass $14.95). 2. Coke. 3. Crab Cakes ($19.95). 4. New Orleans Shrimp Cocktail ($19.95). 5. Jambalaya Aranchini (weekly special). 6. Blackened Lamb Chops (weekly special). 7. New Orleans Fisherman's Plate ($39.95). 8. Pecan Pie warmed with Ice Cream ($14.95). 9. Bananas Foster ($14.95). 10. Beignet ($14.95). Every dish had an excellent presentation. We spent a lot of time taking photos and videos. What did you expect from me?! We loved all the dishes! The portions were large! There are more staff than in the previous location, allowing the service to be excellent. They tend to have many loyal and returning customers. Every table starts with freshly baked bread and butter. The bread was so fresh! The three appetizers tasted good. They each had a little kick due to creole cuisine. I loved the shrimp the most. The Blackened Lamb Chops was perfectly cooked. Each of the four pieces were very tender, accompanied by a delicious sauce. The dish had some very nicely cooked seasonal vegetables: roasted potatoes, a red pepper, string beans, a broccoli, and a carrot. This dish will be put into their regular menu in the near future. The New Orleans Fisherman's Plate is great if you want a little sampling of their seafood: Blackened Fish, Cajun Calamari, and Coconut Beer Shrimp. It also comes with rice and seasonal vegetables. The fish was so good! We brought some home for my mom and she really loved it. The Coconut Beer Shrimp was on top of a Orange Marmalade Sauce, which is really liked. The three desserts looked really good and tasted good. I loved the pecan pie the most. They can split dishes in half in the kitchen and serve them on two dishes for two people to share. The restaurant uses fresh seasonal ingredients and spices to create authentic Creole and Cajun tastes. Everything is made in-house except for bread and butter. In the near future, their bread will be made in-house too. Currently, there is only indoor dining but they are looking into the possibility of sidewalk outdoor dining. Mike Djurdjevic runs the front of the house while his wife, Mira Djurdjevic, operates the kitchen. Their son, Marko, also helps in the front of the house. There is a large pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. They will be introducing creole pizza in the near future. There is a separate large room for events, parties, etc. This room will be ready in the near future. They also do catering. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There is one gender-neutral washroom, which is also wheelchair accessible, and one female washroom. Thrre is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2026-037
