RUDE staff for an almost abandoned hotel that can't afford to lose customers…read more I spent $1,000 to stay at the hotel with the waterpark passes. There were about 5 people total in the water park. I came to tell the kids to come back to room in 15 minutes. A young lifeguard confronted me and said I didn't have a wristband. As I was in my street clothes and about 10 feet from the door, I informed her that I wasn't swimming and just came to tell the kids something. I also told her that I did have a wristband in my room and I was not walking back. She decided to make this the hill she would die on and continued the tirade. She was very persuasive and convinced me never to go back here again. I will gladly spend my money at Great Wolf Lodge, which is 100 times better and the staff treats customers respectfully.

Kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and (my favorite), rowing are all allowed on the pond during the summer, but no motor boats are allowed, which makes the ponds safer for swimming. During the winter you can even go ice skating, which was one of my favorite things to do! The people who rent houses there can be really loud and annoying on the small pond, Little Pea Porridge Pond, but eventually their noises become a dull roar which gets easier to ignore in time. The houses are beautiful, there are gorgeous views, dirt roads through the mountains for exploring, a park with a little stream running by it, and it's a pretty safe area as far as I know. It's close to a convenience store and the Madison Boulder, and it doesn't take too terribly long to get back to Route 16.

There are plenty of rides for smaller kids to go on, although they're mostly the same variation of driving a car or a tractor. Our girl loved it. The area with the houses from old stories (little old lady who lived in a shoe, three little pigs, etc) has seen better days and could use a nice refresh. The food and drinks are a little overpriced but we brought in our own snacks and would do that again next year. Very easy to get in and out.

Our…read morethree grandchildren (twins age 9, and 14 year old) all immensely loved everything (except one was anxious about the roller coaster--so each of us adults took turns sitting out a turn with her. For me, the Polar steel coaster was too small and I didn't have enough leg room so knee hit the seat in front of me, then that padded bar punched me in the gut at the end. But the wooden coaster made up for that! I had much more leg room and the bar that holds you in was much bigger and didn't punch. Whew! I will say that overall the wooden coaster was more fun, though it does jerk you around more side-to-side. (I had really been looking forward to both coasters and the water rides!) The bamboo log type flume water ride was probably my favorite. I wasn't expecting that, but could have done it twice (and I'm 64)! The gentleman working the ride graciously helped me in/out of the "log" as it is moving the whole time and your feet get wet too, so it is tricky getting out. I thanked him a lot! I appreciated that Story Land provided free cubbies at each ride so we could stow eyewear and dry clothes etc. in totes/backpacks we brought along because no way would you take those on the rides. Many people brought a wagon with them and next time, we'll do that. I took a small canvas tote with a dry change of clothes, towel, and water shoes. I bought one drink and kept the cup to refill with water. I bought our whole family lunch and it was about what we spend at a full service restaurant ($150 for 7). All in we had an amazing day and I was exhausted by the end. All three granddaughters had a blast! And that's what counts. The beautiful memories.

Quite a magnificent natural wonder - highly recommend if you're visiting the area. The Madison…read moreBoulder is a ~5,000 ton glacial erratic made of granite - which makes sense since it's found in the Granite State lol. Of course, the pictures don't do it justice and you can't really fathom the size just by reading the stats alone - it's an awe inspiring sight that you have to see to believe! The boulder measures 87 feet long, 23 feet tall, and 37 feet wide. Also, the boulder is partially buried at about 10-12 feet underground! And recently scientists have been able to determine that the boulder is around 14,000 years old. Left behind all those years ago by a retreating glacier. You'll find it down a dirt road with a small, rough dirt parking lot - there are some large, deep potholes so I recommend to drive slow and careful, especially with low clearance vehicles. But it's doable. A short, very flat hike is required along a dirt road but it's well maintained and easy - about 1/2 mile one way. If you visit in fall, you'll be treated to some lovely colors along the way! I visited twice - mid to late October 2021 and early October 2023. Mid to late October had much more colors than early October but it also varies from year to year. You'll find the boulder on the edge of the White Mountain National Forest and only a few miles away from The Kanc - a famous highway in NH for the fall colors. And there are lots of other attractions in the area - lots of rivers and vistas and things like that - as well as the historic Albany Covered Bridge which is a must see (less than 10 miles away). It's free to visit and park - be aware there aren't any restrooms in the area. Google maps will take you right to it - but signal is nonexistent in the area so I recommend to download offline maps before you come. Sadly, on my last visit, someone had put graffiti in several places on the boulder- but a park ranger was there to clean it up. Hopefully they were able to get it removed. I'll never understand why people feel the need to deface natural wonders like that - breaks my heart every time.

Take Hurricane Mountain Road off of Route 16 near the Intervale Scenic Vista. The Parking lot will be on the right near the summit of the road. Warning - this road is steep and winding! The trail is well marked and is approximately one mile in each direction. It is a slow, gradual climb with a lot of tree roots in the beginning that eventually give way to scattered rocks and then to all rock on the summit. If you are not an experienced hiker or do not have the proper gear (I fall into both of these categories) I would not attempt this when the ground is wet as it can be slippery on a good day. It's a good hike Spring through Fall, but hiking it in the Fall is by far my favorite. The view of the changing colors from the top is amazing.
