There are a few times in life when expectation and reality merge in a blend of delightful glory. My meal at the harvester was not one of those times.
I am a frequent diner, in restaurants of vastly varying price ranges. Cheaper chains, like the harvester often offer tacky food, but extremely calorific and oft satisfying food, at that. Sometimes it does good to take the cheaper option and slob out. I opted for a medium steak, with buttered prawns, fries and some mushrooms.
Reality, however, came crashing down upon me in a marry of poorly cooked and poorly sourced food. The steak was tough, filled with badly cooked gristle, and small. Mushrooms were brown, small, dull and frankly microwaved. The prawns were odd. Shelled, buttered - an odd move for a cheap restaurant. The result was a fish that the chef clearly had no understanding of, casting some sizzled shellfish on my lump of steak. When I wanted mounds of crap food, 'twas nowhere to be found.
My wife, paddy, had a simple veggie burger and jacket potato. The veggie burger was pulp, the potato cold, and my wife paddy left - not for the first time - largely I satisfied.
It is not difficult to produce cheap and tasty food. I ended, instead with some bizarre attempt at middle class food, horribly prepared and sourced. Stick with you're good at, harvester. read more
