Sitting on the counter by the register are these small heart-shaped cakes - made with a "cakeless" combination of dried fruits, nuts, dates, and unsweetened coconut. I'm an amateur baker so was thrilled that the owners/bakers were happy to chat with me about their process, grains, and sources. We were there later in the day so a lot of the inventory was gone but still managed to grab a rustic loaf and and the last brotchen. Everything was a bit pricier than you might find elsewhere but it comes down to if you want to support small bakers doing things the traditional way and/or want the effects of long-fermented breads. The rustic loaf was decent, if a little gummy. The brotchen, though, was fantastic and I would gladly buy a bag of those to eat with some cheese and good butter for a lighter meal. I'm not often in the area but would love to stop in again and see what's on the ever-changing, seasonal menu.

I forgot to take pics of my actual purchases because I was busy stuffing them into my face :) Food (5/5): I'm so craving a decent bakery in NOVA so I was so excited to see this in Bolivar (Harpers Ferry). We got a bunch of different things- Chocolate chip cookie was epic- heavy, filled with lovely chocolate (a 10 second microwave warms it up)! Onion focaccia- I love anything focaccia so this was delicious! Pepperoni roll - it was a pretzel on the outside with pepperoni.

Fresh baked bread is on the rack when you walk in with many choices of breads (so many sourdough offerings ) and other baked goods such as cinnamon rolls, scones, shortbread, coconut macaroons, pepperoni rolls, etc. We arrived around noon on a Saturday and had plenty of choices. I was interested in their basic sourdough - two sizes available. The smaller ones were still too warm to slice, so I opted for the larger loaf. It's deceiving just how large this loaf is when it's on the rack, but sliced and bagged it was almost the length of my arm! And very reasonably prized at $13. They come in a freezer bag too! I also learned pepperoni rolls are one of the WV state food and this establishment won best pepperoni roll 4 times, so we tried those as well. So very good - it was a pretzel roll with prepperoni inside. We were lucky enough to get 2 or their 4 remaining cinnamon rolls. The lady helping us said they are worth every calorie and she was not exaggerating one bit! We took a bite of them in the parking lot before we left and I walked back in for the last two to take home and freeze. (Sorry for those after me!). They also offer local and delicious sounding jams, cheese, cheese, milks, and some little trays of cheese that would be perfect for an impromptu picnic with one of their pull apart baguettes. They also offer beverages in a cooler case. Super friendly team working there with absolutely high quality and delicious items. Definitely check them out if you visit Harper's Ferry or surrounding areas. I'm sure anyone local also knows how special this place is. Next time I'm back in that area, I'll definitely work Bolivar Bread Bakery into my plans! (There is some (limited) street parking out front and a small parking lot in the back of the building.)

The service is amazingly friendly and pretty fast. We stopped in around 2pm on a Friday, so I'm betting morning hours are a bit crazier. We got a cinnamon roll, strawberry/raspberry danish, cherry danish and cannoli for the pastries. My husband got a slice of their pizza as well and their drip coffee. The coffee was surprisingly good! The pizza sadly was mistakenly switched with another patron's piece (they take it back to the kitchen and heat it up for you). The piece my husband was given was laced with onions; something he never would have ordered. Oh well. They also don't put their pizza options on the chalkboard which I think needs to change. We didn't see that there was a pepperoni kind until we already ordered! The danishes were both very good, but I think they need to change the bread that they are baked on. It's way too dense. But the flavor was outstanding! The cinnamon roll was also very good. The cannoli kind of missed the mark for me. Overall, worth a visit and I think some minor tweaks could go a long way!
