The Service department at Hartnell Chevrolet does not care about its customers or stand behind its work. We bought a truck from Craig in sales and purchased an extended warranty from John in finance. We had an engine failure and were promised a gm reman engine only to find out that the warranty wouldn't cover a gm reman and those were false promises. Due to our financial situation we were forced to go with what the warranty company would cover. After being without a vehicle for over 2 months we finally got our truck back only to have poor workmanship create issues for us 5 months later. After having those issues documented and repaired by a mechanic closer to our home (we live an hour north). We were told that these items were not caused by them even though carfax proved no one had touched it since them. They refused to help pay for these repairs or acknowledge the issue. We were told sorry that's what you get sometimes when you buy used parts. We even reached out to the owner to have no response. All the general manager would offer after going back and forth was a trade in credit for an unknown amount if we bought a different truck off his lot. read more

Don't trust the service dept! I bought a used Cadillac SRX from there and 3 years later the headlights got so dim they were useless. I brought it back because I had an extended warranty. It turns out Cadillac was aware of the problem and would reimburse me if I got the headlights replaced at a certified Cadillac dealership. Hartnell said they sold me the vehicle and they were GM certified so they could do the work. They did a good job and I sent in the bill for reimbursement and Cadillac will not pay because they are not Cadillac certified. UPDATE 9/24/20 Kevin Ryczak from Hartnell contacted me and worked hard with Cadillac to get my reimbursement. That didn't work so Hartnell is reimbursing me. The service manager was trying to make things easier for me and he truly believed they were qualified to do the replacement since they've done warranty work on Cadillac before. I'm glad my confidence in Hartnell is restored since I have always been satisfied with them! read more

On Friday, 1/6 my 2023 Suburban wouldn't start up completely. I called Craig at Hartnell and left him a message about what was going on. I also left a message for the service team. Scot and his team called me first thing in the morning. I explained to them the issue. They had me call GM roadside. They came out and the truck was jumped, and it did start, but once I put it into drive the call died. GM roadside wouldn't come back for over an hour. Scot and Craig dispatched two members of the service team to come to my residence to review the vehicle. The truck needed a new battery and instead of waiting over 2 hours for GM roadside to come out and tow me in the service team went back and grabbed a new battery. The new battery was installed and the truck started up. I took it into the facility for a quick check. There were no other issues. Thank you to Craig and Scot and the service team at Hartnell. Im posting on a friends account, as I don't have Yelp. I love Hartnell so much I asked to use his! The sales team has been around for years; Community and family people. Right now our family owns the '07 cobalt (brother), '08 Impala(Mom and Dad), '11 cruze (brother), and my baby, '11 Silverado. Over the last 10 years any new car we have purchased has been through Craig. He is a Chevy award winning sales rep and genuinely cares about his customers. When you think about car lots, don't think thats all they have here. Most dealers can do a dealer look up for you. Just not all may want to take the time. That's how I bought my '11 Silverado. Craig spent time with me several times listening to what I wanted and did the research. The vehicle I bought was every feature I wanted. The tradition of buying here started with my dad who has been buying here for about 15 years+. They always explained the best way to do financing, very up front, helping me make the best decisions FOR ME. I never felt pressured and everything was, "when I was ready". From the rebates, to financing, to up front honesty, to the clear cut quality service department, this is a place that will be around for a while! Buyer beware when dealing with Hartnell Chevrolet and buying GM/Chevrolet products. They don't honor factory warranties. The rear window on my 2017 Silverado (with 9800 Miles) exploded outward when I closed the driver's door. When making a warranty claim for the window replacement neither GM nor Hartnell would allow the claim, saying without any proof it somehow it must have been my fault (no way it could have been). Exploding rear windows are a known problem on Chevy/GMC trucks (see GM Bulletin 14815B). After two weeks of runaround trying to talk to Chevy customer service people I took the truck elsewhere and had it repaired for about half of what Hartnell was going to charge me after their "special discount". Unless you like hassles, stay away from these folks. read more

Living in Northern Illinois I have access to a huge inventory of new cars. I decided to purchase a new 2011 Chevy Silverado due to the recently surprising quality of GM automobiles. We bought a 08 GMC Acadia new and decided to stick to GM. We needed more hauling capability so trading our Grand Cherokee for a truck made sense for us. With that being said I started pricing out GM trucks. After getting 7 online quotes, quote from Costco, and getting 3 quotes from Truecar Auto, I went to Hartnell. They are not like the mass inventory dealerships of Chicagoland. They do business how it was done 30 years ago. After a few emails back and forth with the internet sales person I was on my way to owning a new truck. John is the Internet sales person. He gave me a quote online and then left me alone. I scheduled a test drive via email. Since it is a small operation he saw me pull into the lot. He came outside and asked me if I would like to see the truck of inquiry. After a test drive and a very good trade in offer on my Jeep, we struck a deal. I got there at 4:30PM and left with my new truck at 6:30PM. Awesome buying experience. Even the finance person was easy to deal with. He even called my insurance agent to report the change. If you live in the Chicagoland area, and are in the market for a Chevy. I went in because my suspension light had come on several times. They found 3 problems. I fixed only what I thought was the most serious because I didn't want to spend the money right now. When I picked up the car I started it and the check airbag light came on before I even moved. Another $400+ for that repair. It seemed like they knew exactly what I was coming back in the door for. I recently purchased a 2008 Jeep Patriot for this dealership. The salesman, Adam, was great. He did most of the work right over the phone, which was great for my work schedule. I knew exactly what my payment was going to be before I even came in to sign the papers. When I arrived the vehicle was ready to go!! The finance guy was awesome too. We were looking to trade down from a Ford F250 to a Silverado. I met with Randy late on a Saturday evening after a horrible experience at CARMAX. Randy was able to locate a new 2015 Silverado just like I was looking for in Bourbonnais, IL. They made a much better offer on my trade than carmax did. I came back in the following Monday and , unlike most dealers, handed the keys to my trade back to me after they appraised it (unlike most dealers who want to hide your keys from you while you negotiate). Randy was able to get enough incentive money to get the Silverado down $12,000 off of the sticker, and he got the new truck to Salem for us the next day. . Randy was very down to earth, like the kind of guy you'd enjoy drinking a few beers with, unlike most salesmen who you can tell are full of crap the second you meet them. The car sold to me was a complete lemon. I purchased back in 2012. Saw something on the internet and reminded me of how terrible my experience was.Was misdirected the entire time I was purchasing the car. The car had issues right off the bat. Took forever and a day to take care of them. In hind site I never would have purchased from them.The car has had one issue after the other. After the first two times I had it in to take care of the problems the car had when I purchasd it I stopped taking it there because the service was so bad. They even charged me to take care of them! They couldn't take care of the problems the car had before they sold it. I recently had problems with a recall part, called customer service and they said they couldn't do a thing.Customer service is terrible. Sales people are a complete joke. They'll tell you whatever you want to hear so you'll buy from them.Would never purchase or recommend them to anyone. read more
