She is capable of winning the respect of difficult little kids who might not otherwise comply. If everyone had a doctor like this I don't think America would be in the health crisis it is right now.

Family oriented, genuine care for patients, best staff you could ask for. Barb DeCarlo is also the best! I see her every few months for my medicine and she is incredible at her job. Before I could even sit down to fill out the paperwork they were bringing me back to an exam room. So I waited like, zero minutes! The nurse doing the vitals was very friendly and very fun to work with. She took all the stress out of the appointment. Dr. Steve was awesome! Very calming, and listened to my issues. Dr. Steve and I talked about my problem and generated a solution, more like we were a team working together. I liked that. And they have the My Chart App. that was awesome because the flu shots that I've gotten an Walgreens were automatically loaded into the app. That's pretty cool. I was out of the office probably in less than a half an hour. This will sound weird, but I can't wait to get sick again to go back. They gave me better service that I've gotten in some five star restaurants.

I had gone here my entire life until I permanently relocated to Evanston. They're now part of…read moreNorthwestern Medicine, which is also the parent company of my current doc. I'm visiting my family for an extended period of time in St. Charles. I have an ear infection and went on antibiotics last Friday (that were prescribed not by my primary care doc in Evanston, but by a doc in the Glenview NM office who was able to do a telemedicine visit with me since she was the only doc available on short notice). Fast forward 6 days -- I still have lingering ear issues, and I really want to see someone in person to make sure there's not another underlying issue, and I wanted to have my ears cleaned out because my PCP told me I needed to have that done the last time I saw her, and I was lazy and never did so. I figured that might be part of why I'm not getting better. Despite that they have all my medical records because they're part of Northwestern Medicine, and that I went to FVFP for the first 26 years of my life, they won't see me because I'm not a current patient at their specific office and since I'm not planning to switch to them permanently. My entire family still goes there. The doctor I was trying to see delivered me 33 years ago. I'm in the suburbs and can't drive 2 hours to go see my PCP in Evanston right now, especially with the protests going on that make it really hard to get out there. They told me to go to immediate care instead, despite me saying I really don't want to go to a walk-in clinic in the midst of a pandemic. So, I'm now my only option is to schedule an appointment with my PCP when I'm back in Evanston. Hopefully whatever infection is still lingering doesn't become a major issue before then. Also, it was impossible to get ahold of the doc's office. If you call their main number it reroutes to NM's central answering service. The two women I spoke to there were perfectly nice and understanding, but it's not possible to call FVFP directly. And the nurse from FVFP who called me back was quite rude as I tried to explain the situation and why I couldn't go to my primary care doctor.

Excellent medical care. My family has used Geneva Family Practice for years. Their doctors truly…read more care about each patient and take the time to talk to you and answer questions.

Here's the short version: If you care for your own well being or especially the health of a loved…read moreone and are lucky to live within reasonable distance to Geneva Family Practice, you will find no more capable hands. Dr. Rivers is as fine as physicians come. He works in perfect synergy with his own outstanding staff. I have unfair and obscenely high standards for medical professionals. I will only endorse those I hold in great esteem. The longer story of how I came to find such admiration and respect for this family practice can be read in detail below. My father had a brush with death so close that the ICU attending told him "sir, if 0 is the least serious case we see in this unit which handles the most severe cases, and 10 is the worst, you are an 11." That's an exact quote. Here are the details of his pre hospital visit thru discharge. Dr Rivers office and staff played a crucial role in his being alive. For that they have earned my eternal gratitude The infection likely entered his bloodstream around the time of his office visit yet hadn't proliferated systemically sufficient for detection by medical professionals via his symptoms and vitals. Sepsis is pernicious, elusive, cunning and dreadfully fatal. It must be said that Geneva URGED him to go to the ER out of an abundance of caution yet he outright refused (especially considering the national IV bag shortage). His symptoms initially emerged Saturday 11/09/24 in the evening, he had an at home IV administered Sunday, went for the first available appointment Monday 11/11/24 and Tuesday at 5:30 AM I called the ambulance as I happened to see him go into septic shock (I stayed in his room out of caution concerned by worsening symptoms following the first antibiotic dose). Dean, from Dr. Rivers office, stayed available through the weekend (when the clinic was CLOSED and he was OFF THE CLOCK) while my father was in the ICU with septic shock to hassle the lab to forward the sensitivities of the culture that was taken while he was at their office the day before his hospitalization. NOTE: The PA gave him the PRECISE antibiotic MOST sensitive to the strain of bacteria he was infected with based on the urinalysis culture. It's likely the sepsis would have killed him that evening without that first dose of Cipro. The PA (I'm so sorry I forgot your name) that saw him gave him the exact dosage recommended by his attending hospital physician on his discharge. Basically, complete the course Geneva set. I'm seldom impressed by physicians. There are so many cases of both experienced and inexperienced doctors who are stubborn in their ways and who do not keep current with the latest publications on novel approaches to familiar or unfamiliar maladies. Dr Robert Rivers mind is sharp and his faculties keen. I imagine he's seen so much over his lifetime as a board certified general practitioner and surgeon. Dr. Robert Rivers wears a humble guise for a man possessing such adept powers of observation. He is comprehensive in his examination which is a largely abandoned practice in our modern era. Another of his gifts is the breadth of his knowledge combined with an open and agile mind. He listened intently while I blabbered on about my father's unique history. He listened to a suggestion I offered based on a case study that pertained to a new condition my father has following his hospital discharge. Dr Rivers was familiar with the underlying condition and knew of a similar case that went untreated and resulted in a fatality. He gently probed my father for more information then patiently went over his medical history landing on each area of crucial concern with an effortlessness that can arise only from experience. He then ordered the necessary diagnostic testing that would ensure insurance covered the therapeutic approach we discussed exploring. After blood work was collected he administered a first dose to commence this course of action. His staff is simply amazing, Lindsey at the front desk, Dean, the PA (who helped save his life)...I thank you all!

Regarding Dr Shailee Shah, immuno neurologist at CDH. This…read moredoctor destroyed my family and left my husband with permanent brain damage, so that he no longer has the 22+ year specialty career he worked tirelessly to build. AVOID Dr. Shailee Shah at Northwestern AT ALL COSTS. Dr. Shah showed zero ability to think beyond a basic checklist or connect clinical data points. I had to order and pay for critical out-of-state labs and tests (money we don't have) to identify the root cause of my husband's illness. She dismissed my questions arrogantly, insulted my concerns when I pushed her to reconsider, and repeatedly refused the specific test that ultimately revealed the source of his condition. She also refused to provide a simple financial hardship letter required by Mayo Clinic, blocking us from seeking better care despite knowing our dire situation. Dr. Shah was fully informed of our financial crisis, our family at risk of losing our home due to my husband's sudden illness. She misdiagnosed him, under-treated him, and when she learned we were consulting legal counsel, she abruptly pulled his treatment in an apparent attempt to force him back under her care and cover her negligence. Her ego drove every decision. Her incompetence clouded every solution. Northwestern's system enabled this. The neurology department manager, Caitlyn, confirmed that patient care takes a back seat: doctors have total control ("It's their license, their say"), even without objective evidence that treatment is unnecessary. Being trapped in the Northwestern network allowed Dr. Shah's errors to persist across multiple providers. Over 8 hospital stays and 10 months, the aligned neurologists doubled down on her misdiagnosis. My husband deteriorated into catatonia, seizures, and coma. Only a targeted infusion finally woke him. If I had followed their collective advice, he would likely be dead or far more damage than he is, caused under Dr. Shah and Dr. Santwani's care. This was preventable incompetence compounded by institutional protection of negligent doctors. Spare yourself and your loved ones: DO NOT TRUST Dr. Shah with care. Your quality of life depends on it.
