I do however try to support local businesses so occasionally I'll pick up a few things. The WP farmer's market operates downtown on Court St between Main and Martine every Wednesday from 8-4 and (new this year) every Saturday from 8-2. I usually walk through the market on Wednesdays before going into work to browse, and today I had the opportunity to visit them for a little longer. Like any farmer's market, they have a wide selection of fruits and vegetables. I'm bad though, and usually head to the baked goods vendors. Overall, they have a good selection of businesses. Some of them come from upstate while others are local to the city. Two standouts in the market are Gaucho Burger Company and Walter's Hot Dogs who will both soon be opening brick and mortar stores on Mamaroneck Ave. I still think the outdoor farmer's market in Pleasantville is the best one I've been to in Westchester, but the WP one holds its own. They have a good selection of vendors offering a wide variety of products.

We had a wonderfully impromptu weekend sojourn to Fable Farm this past Saturday to pick up some local cider and donuts. Little did we know that Fable is also home to a slew of chickens and goats who are packed with personality and pluck, and totally made our day with their sweet and adorable antics! We had a great time watching the animals hang out and peck around their spacious pen enclosure, safe from the masked onlookers who came to gawk at the majesty of farmland critters. Honestly, any interactions with cute barnyard characters is a high point to my day, so Fable gets five stars on that alone! We also loved the local farmer's market that sets up here, and even though it was close to closing for the day, we were able to browse around for a bit. I didn't buy anything, but the produce looked fresh and there were lots of other locally made goods like honey and soaps. We'll be back for sure next time when we have more time to look around at all the offerings! The local cider and scrumptious donuts were our initial mission, and they did not disappoint. The cider was juicy and tangy, and I couldn't stop drinking it for the rest of the evening once we got home. I was able to limit myself to one cider donut (brushed with cinnamon sugar - yum!), but that was so difficult! My boyfriend's mom was delighted with the cider donuts we brought home for her, too. For $1 a donut, you can't beat the price! They have plain, cinnamon sugar & powdered! I got all 3 and was in a nice food coma! They are delicious & bite size so it can be dangerous!! (Did I almost eat a whole dozen by myself? Yes - do I regret it? Not at all!)
