    More gristle than meat!

We purchased some tuna steaks for tonight's dinner at the Harris Teeter in Steelecroft. While they were seared perfectly and tasted delicious, they had a lot of gristle. I've never seen gristle in tuna. They were nearly inedible - at $18.99 a pound! We will not be purchasing them here again. Please see pictures.

This Harris Teeter is a just a hop, skip, and a jump from my house. It's so close in fact I like to walk here just pick-up various tidbits instead of keeping a full fridge or packed pantry. Only Schwan's makes it easier for me to shop: although you can order ahead to this location and pick it up at their convenient grocery drive-thru (for a cost). I generally like all Harris Teeter grocery stores. Their prices are decent and the VIC card savings are better than most competitors. The real challenge I have with this location is more aesthetics than anything else. I am not sure who designed this particular store, because nothing seems to be laid out quite right. The most glaring example of poor layout is where they have the Pharmacy. It is located smack dab in the middle of the store along an aisle with the signage facing away from the entrance to the store. If you weren't looking for the pharmacy I guarantee you you'd walk right by it. I did. In point of fact until I went looking for a blood pressure machine that was advertised as being onsite I had missed the pharmacy at least on a score of visits. The Pharmacy isn't the only poorly positioned feature at the store. They actually have a Starbucks in-house. You wouldn't know it though. They do have a sign outside the store, but when you enter through the main doors you have to take a hard right, pass through a portion of the deli and flower shop before taking another right turn just to see the Starbucks sign. Then you'll find it. Not convenient at all. Must have been an afterthought. Other oddities include where certain products are located. They have your organic pre-made frozen breads in a freezer in the bakery area instead of the freezer section like most stores; the beer and wine are all the way in the back right corner after you pass through the fruits and veggies section; the gluten-free necessities are located inside the pharmacy area with some other diet restrictive items located towards the front near the self-checkout and the Melon Bar: Didn't even know that was there. It's in the front, but tucked behind several displays. The freezer section is also in an unusual place. It is bunched together in the front right hand side of the store: complete opposite side of the store from the frozen organic breads as I mentioned. I know it sounds like knit-picking, but layout is a big deal. One of the more interesting layout challenges actually involves their spice section located in a middle aisle of the store. Would you believe that you may pay more for a spice from the spice section than for the same spice in their international foods section. In other words, it behooves you to look for spices by their country of origin as opposed to by the general spice section of the store. Turmeric, an Indian Spice that works wonderfully on everything is more expensive in the spice aisle than the Indian food section. In fact, you can get a larger bottle in the ethnic section at half the price. Amazing. Spices aren't the only items that have varying prices in the main store versus the international foods sections. Several salsas, noodles, and sauces are much cheaper in their international area. You'll save if you're observant. Aside from aesthetics, I like the team at the store. I've had several (5) challenges with being miss charged and having to visit the biz center for refunds, but everybody was nice and the problems were solved in short order. I also love the self-checkout. It cuts back on long wait times and the coupon kings. Finally, I'll note that they do have a decent beer selection...just not as good as the selections in Ft. Mill or Tega Cay.

I just paid $24 for what I thought was 2.5lbs of lamb. It turns out 1/2 of it is fat. So, I just paid $24 for 1lb and 6ounces. Mind you, 16 ounces is a pound, so that's not even a pound and 1/2, it's a pound and 6 ounces. Wow. I am so mad, I will probably just never come back to a Harris Teeter. You know what you're doing! Horrible. Here is proof. I will buy my meats from Peach Tree and Saltwater markets from now on. At least they're honest and much better quality meats. DO NOT BUY YOUR LAMB HERE. RIP OFF! Now I have to drive 25 minutes back there to show these pictures and get my money back for the other leg of lamb I got. So frustrating!! Should not be more than 1/4" of fat left on any meats!! This has an inch and more left on!

Going to stuff a roaster chicken with this... Hope its good as the rolls

Hopefully we can keep the folks at Yelp from merging the Pharmacy with the supermarket as they seem…read morewont to do. I don't understand why they can't be separate as there are multiple other supermarkets with separate businesses from their pharmacy. We'll see. This pharmacy is located inside the Publix at Southline, a relatively new shopping plaza along South Blvd. It has its own parking deck - two levels! - beneath the stores with separate elevators for the supermarket and the retail shops. The parking is free. We were here for our COVID vaccine boosters this morning, having made appointments online using https://www.publix.com/covid-vaccine. Not every Publix Pharmacy has the same vaccines and I believe that whether you're Team Pfizer or Team Moderna, you should stick to the same. The CDC is still working out the "mix and match" so you should do as your doctor recommends. As for the shot, the pharmacist did a great job despite the fact that she did not have a "helper" today. She was as busy as a single waitress working a Waffle House next to the church on a Sunday morning. Lots of hustle but still professional as she answered phone calls, prepared syringes and then provided shots. Yes, I checked the label before she did anything. Just to be sure. As for the shot and reaction, the injection site started off at 0.5 and by evening was a 3. I kept my hand in my pocket because moving the arm was painful. It was not a great night's sleep. The entire next day was a waste. I sat in bed, slept and dozed all day. At +36 hours, I was at 100% all good. Hooray, it will be 100% effective when I land in Germany in two weeks. Thanks, Publix Pharmacy. I appreciate you! [UPDATE: NO, YELP MERGED THEM AND I'M PAST ASKING FOR THEM TO FIX THEIR MISTAKES.] [Review 16130 overall - 3142 in North Carolina - 1635 of 2021.]

I asked for a Turkey, bacon and cheese sub. He goes to say, "oh that's extra meat". I asked, how? Then went to say that I've never been told that and I'm there often. The guy continues on with his reasonings. I was lost and confused by this time. So, I let him know that I didn't mind paying for what I wanted. That was just some new info to me. He started going about how not charging affects his bonus pay and this that and the third. I didn't ask him for any of that info. Carried out so bad, he ended up burning up the bacon. I kindly let him know he burned my bacon. He picks it up and look at it. I replied again, "it's burned, I don't want it"... Trying to be nasty and look, bacon turned out to be useless. Hopefully "he's" paying for it, smh. And I doubt that he will. I never want to encounter him ( older, black American guy) again.'Never had that problem with anyone else. Sometimes the line can be extra long or there's been a time when they were out of white bread(but the young guy, took care of that for me)... This guy was rude, too old to carry the situation out like he did. I was fresh off work, tired and all(still in uniform). I had no time for that type energy. I was trying to grab dinner and get home. That's it and that is all. I work in an executive kitchen in Uptown, we please and take care of our customers. I would do the same and give the same energy even if it was QT, Subway and any other place. I ended up purchasing the sub as well as a pack of Oscar Myers fully cooked bacon strips( again I do not mind, paying for what I want). The service and experience was horrible. He needs to stay off front line. Especially tell me, the customer... "If I don't charge, it affects my bonus. Go get who usually serves you and I'll tell them too. See, I don't mind. They must not know"... ... Pissed me off, so UNPROFESSIONAL. I'm sure the few who were behind me in line heard him also. They ended up walking away.

I could easily see myself coming here way too frequently if I lived in the neighborhood- as is I already visit nearly every time I am visiting friends in these complexes. I wish they didn't close the east door after 8pm and I find it interesting the self checkout by the Starbucks is not operational currently. Other than that, this spot has a good selection of food, brands and rotating weekly deals/specials. Plenty of parking and walkable from these nearby apartments. @azfitfoodfun

The staff there is friendly, quick, and always willing to help you find what you're looking for. They do the critical job of listening to the type of slices I want and complying. I also really appreciate their enclosed refrigerated sections throughout the store. It keeps the aisles comfortable, the products cold, and everything feels cleaner and more thoughtfully arranged compared to open‑air coolers you see elsewhere. I presume that there is also an efficiency gain for electricity usage which I can also appreciate. One downside for me is their Bakery. I appreciate a selection of freshly baked goods and find that lacking here. Another is their craft beer selection. It's noticeably limited compared to other grocery stores in the area, and it feels like an opportunity they haven't fully tapped into yet. A few more local or seasonal options would go a long way. Overall, though, even though I miss my Lowes Foods, it's a good store with decent service and a layout that makes shopping pretty easy to navigate.
