Best part of Harris Teeter is that it's open 24/7. Things I do not like about the store, the way the produce is set up. So confusing to find things. And I have been to this store many times and I still have a tough time. It's right across the street from my parents house so it's definitely convenient whenever I visit it. I like the bakery section and pricing. You get a quality dessert and it's priced in the norm range. Some products are way expensive compared to neighboring stores however. The staff is good and are fast in ringing people up. Late night only one cash register open but still really you don't have to wait long. I don't care for this store that much in the day time yet at 12 AM when medicine or last minute flowers etc are needed, HT comes to the rescue. Dear Harris Teeter, I hope your managers will read the reviews here and take those reviews into consideration. I would really like to give 5 stars on reviews, but I just can't with my multiple bad experience that I had with this grocery stores. Not only once or twice but many times, I was overcharged for the items that I bought. For example, I got apples that was $1.99 per pound and the cashier charged $3.49 per pound. Additionally, an item that was advertised for $2.99 was entered manually at $4.99. Not only I was overcharged for some items, the cashier left one of my meat items. I was too tired to go back to the store, it was a waste of money. Harris Teeter advertised their store policy before that says if they charged you the wrong price, you should get the item for free when you go back. This week, I was overcharged again for another item and when I went back I did not get the item for free. The older cashier (female) who helped with correcting the price instead accused me for the incorrect entry of the produce code. When I told her that I did not do self-check out, she became quiet but did not even apologize. The name of the cashier who checked me out was on the receipt, which she should know if she works as a customer service personnel. You should be able to tell when a customer uses a self check out or not. Harris Teeter, if you don't want to lose your customers, be consistent and be honest! Don't overcharge your customers! Don't advertised something cheaper only to charge customers more expensive that what the product is worth! Train your people to know their duties and train them to be kind, respectful, be fair, and to apologize when they are at fault! read more

Personnel behind the counter at the meat & fish counter do not wear masks! One particular employee with a dark beard and glasses has the mask on under his chin with face and nose exposed. He doesn't wear a hair net over his beard either! I've gone in to purchase meats numerous times but when he's behind the counter without a mask on, I refuse to have him wait on me and won't get anything from that department. I reported this personally to management twice! Apparently management doesn't follow through with employee or employee doesn't follow the Covid rules! I'm done shopping at this store! Update: Had to pick up Thanksgiving order and the woman behind the deli counter wasn't wearing a mask either. She heard me say something to my husband and quickly put her mask on. The guy that works in the meat department didn't have his mask on again as usual! The mask was hanging off his left ear and he was cutting something with an beard and no hair net. I thought hair nets are a county requirement! After today picking up my Thanksgiving order I made weeks ago, I will no longer shop here! Really? Really?! Every other grocery is now taking returns for items purchased early on during the Covid panic - with the exception of Harris Teeter. If an item is in a closed/sealed container why ever would a store not take the return for someone else to use? My Kraft salad dressing has been in the store's plastic bag for 2 months now, and the 2 times I've attempted to return it - no joy. The first time there was NO signage that returns were not being taken until I arrived at the customer service counter - and the second time there was an all but invisible 8x12 paper that returns were still not being taken on the sliding doors. When OPENED - no sign was visible! USELESS! I choose to SHOP ELSEWHERE going forward. read more

Is it strange to review a grocery store? I don't know, but I seem to spend a lot of time in them and this is my favorite. Although I live in Lovettsville my son goes to Virginia Academy which is next door to this store and it has become my go to place for groceries. Usually very well stocked, and if it isn't it's probably because I am there very early. Unbelievably friendly employees. This is a big selling point for me because things are difficult these days but I do appreciate a smile and hello. Also the in store Starbucks has super nice workers despite some entitled customers who I would probably get fired over. A really nice store! read more

This is hands down my favorite grocery store in Ashburn or even the immediate area. I am going to apologize in advance because this will likely be a long review, but this grocery store deserves it. Read on.... First off, my favorite thing about this store is its layout. Unlike Wegmans and some other grocery stores, the layout makes PERFECT sense and you can get your shopping done very quickly. Wegmans is never an in and out, five minute affair. The prices here are always competitive with other grocery stores, and often below what others are. What people need to understand, is all grocery stores go back and forth on prices. While Wegmans might have cheaper eggs and milk this week, Harris Teeter has cheaper bread and ground beef. It is a never ending cycle trying to compete. They have wonderful, FRESH produce here and they always try to have a locally sourced selection which is nice to see. I've never purchased anything that wasn't fresh here. To Ejtk L. who was talking about the mold in the strawberries, I've seen that before at other grocery stores. It just happens to strawberries sometimes. This Harris Teeter has a nice seafood counter, butcher, and a deli counter where the employees will always give you a slice to try to see if you like your selection and approve of the thickness. Their bakery, while not on the same level as Wegmans, is great and they always have samples of their breads to go with samples of their deli selections. Their subs at the sub shop are truly fantastic and inexpensive compared to Wegmans, Subway, and Jersey Mike's which is practically right next door. They use REAL deli meat from their own deli, and not prepackaged, pre-sliced crap like Subway and Wegmans uses. It isn't uncommon for me to eat here at least twice a week. The sushi counter is great, not that expensive, large portions, and the people who run it will always be happy to make a custom order for you. Their salad bar is super fresh, and their soups are always fantastic, if a little on the pricey side. Be sure to try the tomato bisque. The managers and cashiers are friendly. Lines at the check out are never too long even during the holiday rushes, unlike Wegmans where they have police directing traffic which is INSANE. The parking lot is always clean and free of rogue carts that might damage your vehicle. In the winter the lot is so heavily salted you'll never find any ice to slip on. Honestly, this Harris Teeter is so good I've stopped going to Wegmans altogether. You need to give this place a try. read more

I shop here all the time. The people are super nice and they always say hi or smile. It's always clean and well stocked.

With a Wegmans nearby, I think that the Harris Teeter gets overshadowed a bit. But after several bad produce purchases at the Wegmans, I revisited the Harris Teeter and realize how great it really is. I usually visit on Friday afternoons on my way home from work. At this point, the produce is fully stocked, beautiful, and has proven to hold up after a few days at home. My second point of loving this grocery store is that my experience with the cashiers has been that they are fast, professional, and friendly. And this store has four self check-out machines if you like to avoid human interaction. I will say that these machines have burned me in the past, refusing to scan certain items, not recognizing that I had "moved the item to the bag" already. But they are there if that's your particular desire and talent. Finally, as other reviewers have noted, the 24/7 aspect is fantastic and has proven helpful to me on more than one occasion. I can't think of another store in the area that offers it, so when you need something like cough syrup at 2 am, this place is a reliable old friend. Besides the problem with the self scan, I have had a few occasions where the deli counter has been slower and less efficient than I would expect. The quality is still great, but every gem has at least a tiny flaw. Before you spend your Saturday dodging carts at Wegmans, remember the steady friend you used to know in Harris Teeter! read more

I'm pretty sure Harris Teeter is actually an alien grocery store come to earth attempting to present itself as an earthling grocery store. They do weird stuff that no other grocery store does, most particularly the way they check people out. No other grocery store I have encountered in more than a dozen countries does it like the Teet. Groceries at Harris Teeter, particularly produce, are regularly more expensive than both Giant and Wegmans. Produce organization is bizarre and unpredictable while selection is scant. Grocery stores share general organizing principles, from Giant to Safeway to Wegmans to Food Lion to H-E-B. Harris Teeter did not get the memo. So illogical. As suggested above, the check-out lane methodology makes no sense. At this location, at least 60% of all check-out lanes are closed at any given time and the others are moving at a speed that would bore a snail. I only end up here if I need a last minute item or two for dinner. Otherwise I'd much rather spend my time and my money at ... any other grocery store. Except Shoppers. Terrible customer service. I believe it was the manager or assistant manager that had an attitude problem he was the white dude in his 30s with glasses. I was trying to buy some medicine for my fever and he asked for my ID. I showed him my ID to prove I am 19 years old and he still refused to sell it to me. I was extremely upset because I had to deal with the sickness with no medicine. I don't understand why the man was in a bad mood or trying to make others peoples live worse when all I wanted to do was buy some medicine to make me feel better. read more

The pharmacy is not run well.ive had problems four out of the past seven times I've had or tried to have a prescription filled there. Problems range from their cash registers not working, forgetting to fill a prescription, and erroneously saying they had a medication available that they did not. If you use them, better take a lunch and make a day of it. read more

The good stuff: Their meat section is good, selection, reasonable prices. Bakery is also good, my kid is picky about cupcakes. They haven't converted half the store to non-food merchandise I can find stuff, they have the right sort of groceries for me. In general I like Harris Teeter, however, The bad stuff: Feels like they push the self-checkout machines, frequently not enough cashiers They play recorded bird noises, sirens and whistles at the front door and the sound is jarring enough that I want to turn and walk the other way. I don't know if the intent is to scare away wild animals, or prevent loitering, but that recorded noise is enough that I don't like to walk into the store. The aweful noises are enough to take a 4 star review that would compete with wegmans down to a 2 star review of a grocery story I usually avoid. read more

I stopped to pick up some party supplies at the Lansdowne Harris Teeter. I had taken my husbands key chain so my HT card was not available. I shopped and was pleased to see a special on soda...so I went for the offer of 3 free. As I was checking out the register would not accept my phone number in lieu of my card...so the clerk who has a podium station at the check outs offered to check me out using his company card. When I got home I found I was charged full price for all my items and what made me especially angry was the charge for the soda....$25.00 for the free items. I should have just gone to customer service and had them look up my card number rather than accepting HT's on the floor clerk's customer service. I'm pleased to see Aldie has now opened in close proximity to this HT....no stupid "cards"....just much lower prices!! read more

While this isn't necessarily the closest supermarket to me, I go here often because I'm a night owl. I night owl trapped in suburbia!! I hate grocery shopping during prime time hours. I hate dodging crazy drivers in packed parking lots. I hate long lines to pay for my food. So Harris Teeter does me right. They are open 24/7!! They have a great selection of food and wine. If I feel l need milk at midnight, I know where to go! BTW this is one of the few places that carries Horizon Organic Lactose free milk!! yay!! Although I'm trying to beat my lactose intolerance into submission by bombarding my body with so much cheese it will HAVE to start making lactase enzyme! But that's neither here nor there. 24hr grocery stores with great selections get the coveted 5 stars in my book. read more

I like Harris Teeter but I am starting to really become annoyed and disappointed with being overcharged many times. I am especially disappointed with manager Joe C at the Ryan Rd store. I was overcharged for an item, so I went to the customer service and this is not the first or second time. Needless to say, not only I had to wait for a long time (there was no one else in line, just a very slow manager and another employee who did not know how to do her job), the price adjustment the manager did was still more than the price of the item indicated. Supposedly Harris Teeter, according to an article I read at CNBC.com, has a policy that when shoppers are overcharged for products, Harris Teeter is supposed to offer those products for free. Instead, this manager still overcharged me for an item I was more than triple charged (the item should have been $2.15, it was entered by the cashier as $7.50, the manager still charged me $3.27 for it). This manager did not even apologize for the inconvenience I had to go through. I wonder if he changes the store's policy based on who the customer is because he looked at me first from head to foot before processing my refund. For those who don't pay attention to your receipts, you may be surprised how many times you have been overcharged. read more

Nice store. Prices inline with other markets in area (Safeway, Giant) with a smaller foot print. A more concentrated selection, not as broad as the mainline stores. A little easier to shop. Great produce. Meats and seafood are great. Check out area a little congested and staffing issues (lots of teens and 20 something's working). Self check out always seems to have issues. I appreciate the use of reduced lighting in refrigerator cases (lighting has a motion sensor that clicks on when you approach). Would be a five star if not for reduced front of store help. Watch out for shopping cart abandonment in parking lot. read more

I like the selections at this HT. I shop the sales because everything is overpriced otherwise. The reason for the three stars is management attitude/disposition. The checkout employees are mostly great. But whenever I had to deal with the shift managers or the store managers (whether I was asking for information or I had to invariably return something), they have piss poor attitude. They won't look you in the eye. Unpleasant tone and facial expressions. It's all very weird and uncomfortable. So I still shop there because it's convenient. I went into the store at about 11:50pm just to buy wine, didnt realize i didnt have my id my friend had hers and got denied buying the wine which is fine i understand there is a policy. The associate bald head and long beard was very rude and blunt, worst attitude, very unprofessional did not have a name tag on. I requested for his name completely ignored me and demanded to "Get out of his store" i kept insisting for his name didn't provide it. I was Bout to leave but i needed his managers name. He did not give me his managers name told me to get out of his store or his calling the cops. He called the cops on me i didnt need nothing else but his managers name. Didnt even provide a business card. Cops arrived and the associate even interrupted our conversation and even the cop told him to go back to his desk . I am never coming back to this harris teeter. We live right around the corner and end up frequenting this store more than we would like. I have seen many consisten issues here and will elaborate. Bottom line: save your money and frustration with bad fresh foods and go to Wegmans. The selection here is not very good, either. Don't buy your produce here!! Unless it is pre-packaged and non-HT brand. Every single time I have bought produce here (with the exception of apples and pears), there has been an issue. Avocados are always past their ripe date, bananas turn brown and have bruise marks within a day or so of getting them home, the berries are horrible. Spinach is over priced and gets slimy within 2 days. Every.single.carton. of berries we have bought have had a giant blob of mold in the center the minute we open it at home. And we have shelled out so much money for this stuff out of convenience of location, we have stopped and make the drive to Wegmans. It is so worth it. Meat is okay, not a whole lot of selection at all. Bought cottage cheese the other day and couldn't find a sell by date on any of them. Stupidly, I bought one anyway, giving them the benefit of the doubt. Got it home, it was runny and didn't taste right. Don't come here for hummus either, you will spend 5+ dollars on a tub of not-so-great runny HT hummus. For half the price you can get twice as much in better flavors elsewhere. God forbid you don't use their HT card, you would get ripped off so bad. Prices are generally higher here than other stores in the area as well. Their sale prices almost match the regular prices elsewhere. Just my two cents. read more

Can you say overpriced? I agree that five years ago, HT was a cool concept and the quality of food and shopping experience was worth the hiked up prices. I live in Ashburn and there are HT's on every corner. I refuse to shop at the HT's on principal because they are just so overpriced. Also, the once terrific produce is now substandard and goes bad soon after purchase. Note to HT, stop concentrating on growing your empire and start paying attention to the stores you have. read more
