Harris Nature Center is located in Okemos, Mi. near the Red Cedar River. It's a very nice place to take in the day and walk the trails. They have a nice learning center that is open Tuesday to Saturdays 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Check out the Harris Nature Center website for many different adventures that they offer. Plenty of parking. read more
Harris Nature Center is lovely in the winter. There are great snowshoe trails that are well marked and you can cross country ski as well (although the trails aren't specifically groomed for that - you'll have to cut your own path.) In Jan/Feb they have frequent 'starlight snowshoe' events from 6PM-9PM where you can do the trails in the dark lit by moonlight and well-placed garden lanterns. It's a great event for families.
Snowshoe rental is super easy and VERY inexpensive (less than 5.00 I think?) and they also rent XC skis although I don't know the cost. read more
Great nature walk for the family. A few different paths and trails that lead you to different areas. I love the white spruce trail, it's gorgeous. Plus there's a trail that leads off to some woods and a stream. 5 stars read more
