And I'm not ashamed of it. You see this is one of the nicest (but not newest--hence the charm) playgrounds I've been on. It's not that new plastic-y stuff. No, this is a good old fashioned wooden set, but massive, sprawling, and the kind of place a kid dreams is a fort on the old frontier, a pirate ship, or a rocket. The rest of the park is nice, too. In fact, I haven't wandered the trail part of it much. But I did dig the ponds, even though by late summer I noticed they were pretty marshy. Since Mason is a pretty small town, you don't need to know much to find it. Just head west on the main road out of town and you'll see it there on the right. Great to come and walk, play with the kiddos, or have a little picnic. I closed my eyes and did that today, and for a second I was there, even if just in my mind.

My husband and I brought our pups here for a little outdoor time during social distancing and despite it being a gorgeous Saturday early-evening we didn't run into any one else on any of the trails we explored. So it's a really great spot to enjoy some outdoor adventures without worrying about getting too close to other people. Beautifully maintained, tons of parking and pup friendly! Just remember bug spray if you get into the woods/near the river. I forgot and got eaten up quite a bit!

Michigan's Washtenaw County has created a 35-mile "Border-to-Border" paved bicycle trail that winds from Dexter through Tree Town (Ann Arbor) and on to Yipsilanti. Much of the trail is off-road and provides plenty of welcomed shade and river views on a hot summer day. Today, my wife and I chose to ride 10 miles of the B2B Trail in the Dexter area that winds through the Hudson Mills Metropark. Given the pandemic, we saw plenty of courteous walkers, joggers and bikers sharing the 10-foot wide trail which enabled effective social distancing. The Hudson Mills Metropark section of the trail in Dexter is a true gem that offers fresh air, sunshine and the opportunity to get some welcomed exercise. We look forward to the time when we can once again stop into the Riverview Restaurant after our bike ride and enjoy a breakfast or lunch. Until then, we're staying safe in Dexter. 5 stars!

As soon as you drive in, this magnificent (perspective of a kid) playground appears to the left. It's even called the Kids Kingdom. My kids had a blast. Even my 20 month old had a wonderful time. We brought some PIZZA, ate on one of the nice picnic tables within Kids Kingdom. However, I must admit I had a specific intent for checking out this park; disc golf!! There is an 18 hole disc golf course. There are plenty of trees, dog legs (left and right turns... not actual legs of dogs), and water hazards to make it interesting. There is a nice variety of long and short throws. The tee pads were extremely easy to find; however, the baskets from the tee pads weren't as easy to find. If I had the map, that I attached to this review, from the beginning it would have been a different story. I skipped one basket because I assumed the drive was a little longer. I ended up throwing it 3/4 of the way to the next basket. No worries... I'll know better next time. I didn't know what PAR was for the baskets, so I assumed everything was PRO PAR and ended with 1 over for the 18 holes. I know there is a lot of room for improvement. I will definitely take my family to this park again!! My wife also wanted me to mention on this review that the bathrooms were nice and right next to the playground. My 6 year old didn't realize the bathrooms were so close and found a tree out in the distance. You'd think he was born in a barn or something....

The water has a mostly sandy bottom with some pebbles and such but I didn't really feel any seaweed which was good. There's a roped off swimming area that is very large. The lake itself was packed with boats and jet skis. The playground was awesome and a bit different than the typical structure. We didn't utilize the back track but it looked cute! There's a bar on the other side of the street that was playing live music and we could hear it from the playground easily. The new bathrooms are nice. There's also a concession stand - I think the hot dogs were $2 or $3, they had nachos and other basic beach snacks but we didn't get anything.

It was our first time visiting the East Lansing Family Aquatic Center. I was with some family from…read moreout of town so we needed a place to take the kids to burn off some steam. Sounds like a great spot right? Right! Unassuming from the outside, it was all business and professional courtesy once you entered through the gates. Here's the thing with aquatic centers. Lifeguards are paramount! We can all imagine a scenario when security and lifeguards are lacking, so to see it in action was incredibly impressive. On the day we went - near the end of our stay, we witnessed an episode where all the whistles blew, lifeguards stood up at their stations and pointed to the spot where someone was struggling in the water. In a matter of seconds, lifeguards converged and basically took care of business. Now these are late teens to early twenty-something kids. And to see this type of urgency, and trained behavior for the safety and security of their patrons was, well - encouraging to say the least. Once we got home it was decided that, based on our first experience, this won't be our last trip to the East Lansing Family Aquatic Center. Well done staff! You came through with stars!
