Rooms are solid for a very small populated area. The casino itself was bright, clean and had good atmosphere. The poker machine area however should be closed. It's dark and smells moldy/mildew. Probably a good reason why nobody was there playing. Of course weekdays are way less busy. read more

While traveling from SC to Illinois we stopped here to sleep. Of course we played blackjack. Haven't won much BUT the dealers here have ALL been amazing, engaging & in great moods. We visit a lot of casinos and this one tops them all. There is plenty of parking and the room was nice & clean. We had breakfast at the restaurant here. Our server, Brittnee was so friendly and accommodating. I don't want to leave lol. Their friendliness is so contagious. Harrah's Metropolis offers a solid experience with a mix of pros and cons. The casino is newer and in excellent condition, providing a clean, modern atmosphere that makes gaming enjoyable. It's clear they've put effort into maintaining this space. Also I love since the casino is in Illinois, it is a smoke-free casino. The hotel rooms, while clean, feel a bit dated compared to the casino. They're comfortable enough for a short stay, but a refresh would definitely enhance the overall experience. For EV drivers, the on-site J1772 charger is a nice convenience, but it only charges at 2.2 kW, which is significantly slower than the typical 9 kW. I think they need to look into this as the Telsa plugs seem to charge those vehicles at a higher rate. On the dining side, the restaurant 'Bridges' is a highlight. The menu offers some great options, and the loaded potato skins are absolutely worth trying--crispy, flavorful, and a standout dish. read more

The room was great! They have some newly renovated rooms. I recommend asking for one. The rooms are very nice and on the high-end side. If passing through, I would consider staying here even for the hotel. Sometimes the rooms can be cheaper than other hotels in area. Keep in mind though they charge a resort/service type fee when staying. It is around $15-$20. The elevators also are secure. You must use a keycard to use the elevator. This keeps random people from entering the hotel floors. I plan on going back. read more

On Friday, February 6, I was humiliated and bullied by one of your employees and one of the player's (he probably knows very well) at Harrah's by Ceasar Palace in Metropolis, Illinois, I feel because of the color of my skin!! My mother booked us a room in celebration of my birthday this month. This was our second time visiting here from Tennessee and had only been in the casino for about 15 minutes. She went to play the slot machines and I went to a blackjack table. I sat at a table with three other players. After losing a few hands, I left to find another table but unfortunately aren't many options because this isn't a big casino. After walking around for a few minutes and not able to find another table, I went back to that same table. When I came back to the table, I overheard one of the players telling a new player who sat in the seat I was in previously "Yea I don't know why people fucking do that, there should be some kind of fucking black jack etiquette, bro I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about that." I really couldn't make out what he stated. At this time, there was only one open seat, right next to the player mentioning blackjack etiquette. I sat down and placed my money on the table, he immediately stated "I'm playing 3 hands, you can't play". I was confused because there were only 3 other players and didn't understand why he was being so rude to me and I hadn't done anything to him or even knew who he was, so I stated, "what do you mean, I can play", then he started yelling "you can't fucking play here, you need to leave now". I then stated, "this a free country I play where ever I want to play". He then started threatening me stating, "you don't want this kind of fucking trouble" (at this point. I realized I was the one he was upset with, I'm assuming because I left the table and came back). He then called the table "manager" Harold over, to tell me to leave as well. I then asked Harold, if one player could play 3 hands if others are waiting and he replied "yes, he could play 3 hands and, the only way I could play, was if the player dropped his bid". I replied, "oh ok". The player continued cursing and telling me to leave in front of the manager, the manager finally chimed in to say "hey, let me handle this". The manager then began saying "you have to leave the table." I asked the manager why because I hadn't done anything wrong and that the player was yelling and cursing me the entire time. The "manager" then stated he was going to call the manager, I then told him to go right ahead and do so because I had not done anything wrong. After he called or tried to call someone, he got off the phone yelling to leave and that he was going to call security. I then stated, "I thought you were going to call the manager", he then stated "I am the manager, you need to leave or I will have security escort you out of here". I then asked him, "why had he taken the other player's side and didn't hear my side of what had transpired............he just stated, "ok so you don't want to leave, I'm calling security now". I initially told him to call security because I had not done anything wrong but after I thought about the entire reason I came, was to celebrate my birthday, I recanted and told him I would leave the table. I have never been so humiliated in my life and not sure if I will ever go back! I am an African-American women and definitely feel that race played a big role in the way I was treated at this casino. I have served my country and fought for our freedom in the military and to be treated this way! Concerned and humiliated visiting player!! read more

Harrah's Metropolis is definitely the smallest casino I've ever been to, but I absolutely love this place. Every employee there that I've encountered (front desk, cashiers, Caesars Rewards, dealers, pit bosses and especially my personal host Veronica) have been so welcoming the few times I've been there. You can tell they enjoy being there. The rooms are super clean and really nice. Veronica has always made sure I've been treated with A-1, top notch service. I've only been up there three times, but I've never lost. Always walked away either even or up quite a bit. Veronica had nothing to do with that...LOL! I highly recommend going here just for a quick one tank trip or overnight stay. read more

I stopped here on my way to NC. I had a free room, so I can't complain that much. The room was good...no real complaints there anyway. I guess my only real issue was the the fact that there was only one place to eat in the casino and it was that little snack bar place (the main restaurant was closed). When I checked in, I asked the front desk attendant if there was any place to eat in the casino and she didn't know (???). Also, rare incident, but there was a tornado warning the night I stayed and, although I heard tornado sirens outside, no announcement was made inside the casino or in the hotel. I stayed at this hotel for one night unfortunately I woke up to bed bugs. Immediately reached out to the front desk. When they sent someone up, I was able to show the different bed bugs that I caught. They were apologetic. When I went down to the front desk, all they could offer me was a free breakfast. I travel a lot, so I understand that there's the risk of bedbugs in hotels. But I wouldn't really be nice if they tried a little bit harder to accommodate me. Just for future reference, they should offer to clean your clothes or even transfer me to a different room. I know that there are not many hotels in this area, and I'm quite sure this isn't an experience everyone will have, but I do think it's important to let it be known. We booked are room with Caesars and on arrival and was forced into a different room type due to "overbooking." When we asked why the hotel's own site would overbook us we were told "it's our policy that when you book a room it is only receiving a room. We do don't guarantee the specific room you book." We asked for the policy to be shown to us when we were told it was on the website. The manage then couldn't find said policy and refuse to do anything to make it "right" no apology was even given. Gotta love driving 4 hours for a crappy downgrade. I guess my Cesar's Rewards is meeting less. Next time will stick with a Penn or Boyd property for a weekend getaway. read more

We'll have a restaurant open. No breakfast available mon-wed. Also no comps for food. So all you high rated players. Skip this place. Why have casino hosts? The place looks run down. The 7th floor of the hotel is suppose to be luxury rooms, the bathroom would be nice if they cleaned it. You look at the walls and you can see the streaks on the walls. When you rub your hand along the top of the tub it isn't smooth because of the dirt leftover from other customers arms. So gross. The coffee table was made of leather but the leather is breaking apart . Also the bed sucks. Your back will be killing you when you wake up. We were staying 2 nights but left after one. As you can see by the picture when you sit on the bed it sags big time. One good thing for players who want to find cheap tables. 5 dollar blackjack. They also got rid of the sports gambling even though there is too professional sports teams nearby. Maybe it's closing. They are good at taking money. This was a good spot to stop on our way to certain locations but the new casino in cartersville might be a better choice for everyone. read more

I reserved a Riverview room with 1 king bed. We arrived and went to check in at 4 pm as we were supposed to according to the email. They only had rooms with 2 queen beds available. Got to the room and found stains all over the carpet. Stains on the bathroom walls and the grout had mold all in it. The mattresses were broken down and very uncomfortable. Can't comment on the hotel but the casino is tight, tight, tight. Went on a Friday night and played for a couple of hours. Up some, down some, left at "broke even." Great. Fun time for the cost of a drink. Saturday it was a completely different experience. Machines weren't paying much at all, and at one point I got a bonus on a 60-cent bet that paid ... wait for it ... 90 cents! Sunday, same story as Saturday. So I'm concluding that Friday was the anomaly. Bright and pretty clean, and servers are around frequently to offer (purchased) drinks, but all in all, I'll pass. read more

Have you ever lost an item that was maybe worth a couple of bucks, yet PRICELESS to you? That was the case recently when I somehow left one of my most valuable possessions- my bedroom pillow- in my room at Harrah's Metropolis Hotel & Casino. Thanks to the diligence of several employees at the hotel, my worst nightmare was alleviated. Emily, with Guest Services, was the first to help by answering my phone call and immediately checking the lost and found. When the pillow was not there, Emily had Tristan, with Housekeeping, check my room, where he found the pillow. Emily checked with Kyrie, the Manager on Duty, to see if the hotel could mail the pillow back to me, which they did expeditiously! I also understand from Emily that an employee named Kylah also helped out- probably covering the front desk for Emily as she went in search for my missing pillow. I am eternally grateful to these four employees- and to the hotel- for their act of kindness! I have stayed at Harrah's four times over the past two years and have consistently found the hotel [and its rooms] to be immaculately clean, and stocked with everything I could possibly need (i.e. refrigerator, in-room safe, hair drier, etc.). The employees have always been courteous and helpful, and staying at the hotel has been a no-brainer... it's by far the nicest hotel in the Metropolis/Paducah area! I recommend Harrah's Metropolis unequivocally!! read more

Love this place! I come once a year for the Tunnel Hill 100 Mile Ultra Marathon race. I stay for the week. Very large rooms with great bathrooms. Very clean hotel and casino. I do miss the buffet they use to have, but other than that, this place is great. I would recommend this location for a work retreat, or for anyone looking for a casino getaway in a less crowded place than Vegas. And, the food is great. read more

ABSOLUTE SCAM!!! When I arrived they told me my hopper reservation was canceled and that I had to rebook my room, paying FULL price for a room. My phone was about to die and I was out on the spot to provide a new credit card to book my room. My only mistake was not checking with Hopper first about my "canceled" reservation. When I checked the next morning, my Hopper reservation WAS NEVER CANCELLED. When I approached the front desk I was met with extremely rude front desk personnel, including "Manager" Sherri V. Sherri proceeded to tell me that she could not provide any PROOF that hopper had canceled my reservation. Sherri stated that "I didn't HAVE to stay with them" and that I would "not be getting ANY printout from her about my reservations." NIGHTMARE. I originally paid $200 for the room through hopper. It was a last minute birthday present for my husband. Due to the hotel staff LYING and SCAMMING me, I paid over $500 for one night there. I should have read the reviews more thoroughly because after more research, this IS common for them. To add on to this nightmare, ALL staff from the hotel AND casino were extremely rude. This whole trip with Harrah's Hotel and Casino turned into a NIGHTMARE. read more

This was my 1st visit. I normally go to the Horseshoe casino in Indiana, but this was about an hour closer to Nashville so I gave it a try. I had a king size hotel room; non-smoking and really did smell fresh; larger rooms than most casinos I've been to; super comfy bed; also had a little sofa; large bathroom and soft towels. The entrance to the casino is super close to the hotel elevator doors. They have some face recognition technology to get into the casino; I've never seen this before. The casino itself was probably one of the smallest I have ever seen! It's only one floor and not many table games. Not saying it's a bad thing, just stating the facts. I went on a Sunday night and it was super quiet! If you don't like loud music or a large crowd, you might love it here. I'm not sure what Friday or Saturday nights look like. Lots of slot machines and nice variety. Smoke free!! (I was rejoicing). You can smoke e-cigs there, and the do sell them at the bar. I only saw 2 bars and the mixed drinks come in tiny little plastic cups. Not a lot of servers walking around but could be bc it was a Sunday. Casino does close at 5am (7am Fridays and Saturdays). This was also something new to me. No free drinks in this state, but probably a safer thing! I did see one guy get kicked out for being too drunk and the security got him a cab home. I ate at Bridges the next day for lunch time and it was really good food! There is a food place that remains open during casino hours in case you need a snack though. Only thing is... I didn't see any buffet... Maybe they renovated? Or I just didn't find it? Overall, I had a good time! I felt safe going alone as a female. Every single employee I met was very friendly!! I will definitely be back!! **Update - they quit serving food at the bar inside the casino. Instead, they opened a small food place in the back corner. But the food there is terrible! So this was the first time we stayed at this so called resort. We have stayed at several Harrahs resorts and this one was very disappointing. Don't get me wrong the staff was awesome all around but the hotel is very outdated and the carprt throughout is very dirty the rooms are very cheaply furnished and not very comfortable. Never felt like I wanted to sleep there because every where it was just old and dirty. we made reservations at the Bridges Restaurant and sadly it was a huge disappointment too. I ordered onion soup and other than the topping of cheese, the soup was horrible then came the flatbread which had mushrooms that were not edible very hard to chew 2 bites and that was it. My husband had the soup of the day tomato basil and 3 bites and couldn't finish then came his entree and the asparagus was awesome but the shrimp platter was hot on the outside but most were cold on the inside. A very disappointing so called special dinner out. We were scheduled for two nights but left the next morning I'm sure Harrahs is totally unaware of how rundown this resort is. The casino is small, but bright and clean, non smoking. Machines new, chairs in good condition. Won $50 on penny slots, fun. No free booze, but free soft drinks. Don't think it is for serious gamblers, but fun. Buffet was good, fresh, lots of choice s for $22. Boiled shrimp, salad bar, turkey, sirloin, fried catfish, broiled tilapia, pasta bar, lots of fresh hot seasoned veggies, fantastic pies and cakes. Just a fun night. We had class a RV and parking all night is free. Big parking lot, streets into metropolis are wide contrary to other reports I read. Just a small sleepy town home to superman. Saw the statue, fun! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I repeat...DO NOT GO HERE! This place is an absolute SHIT HOLE. First off, it is on an old riverboat. Something is wrong with the river, and all of the fish have died. So all you can smell and see is dead fish. SECONDLY, the staff there are extremely rude (except for Janet, she was amazing!) You also have to buy your own alcohol, which I have never even heard of at a casino before! My boyfriend and I went here, and I decided to be a bit of a cheapskate and only took in $100. By the end of the night, I was up around $500 dollars and he was up several hundred dollars as well. As I was going to cash in my chips, the staff decided to approach me to ask me to leave because I had been drinking. I was already leaving, and why I would need to wait 24 hours to cash my chips in is beyond me. The buffet lacks something to be desired. Since it was our first time at Harrah's, we were both given free buffet tickets. I would never pay money to eat there. NEVER. Last but not least...the room. The room itself was actually pretty nice. There was a nice big comfy bed and big clean bathroom. HOWEVER..the hotel charged my boyfriend's card THREE times for the room and it had to be reported to the fraud department at his bank. I had a great time at this casino. Blackjack tables had a surprisingly low minimum bet of $5 at one of them which is good for people that want to stretch their money and play longer. Tables were also 3 to 2 blackjack which is great. Most casinos are going to 6 to 5. Dealers were fun and friendly which always makes the experience that much better. No smoking inside which is good for people that don't smoke. It's a small casino, but that's expected giving the area doesn't have much around it. I'm a Caesars diamond plus member and had a comp room. Room was nice but I thought I was gonna get a river view room. I'll be coming back to stay and play again. read more

It's on the river at the southern tip of Illinois, just past Paducah, Kentucky - what do you want? My 4-Star rating is pretty much derived from the staff and the hotel since the other things are 3-Star in my book. GAMES: People go here to gamble. There is nothing else to do here lol. There is a giant Superman statue down the street across from a Superman gift shop, so if you appreciate those kinds of things, stop by for a photo op. The casino is small, with mostly slot machines. There are two Crap tables, a lot of blackjack, some Poker games, and 2 Baccarat tables. They added more tables recently. You have to go outside to smoke, and being a non-smoker, that's friggin great. No free alcohol :( PEOPLE: The staff is always super friendly. I've been coming here for a long time since it's the closest Casino to Nashville, and it's nice to see smiling faces. I've never met a dealer/pit boss I didn't like here. That's awesome. HOTEL: The hotel is new compared to the casino. It's nice. The rooms are spacious and clean. They've also added a convention center, but again it's Metropolis, Illinois, so there aren't many events going on here. FOOD: There's the buffet which is okay - nothing fancy. You get food in your tummy. The Range is also okay. Ace's stays open super late and they have things like burgers, chef salads, Reubens, onion rings, etc. There is also a restaurant in the hotel - i forget the name of it. They serve breakfast only and it's pretty good. If you play at the table games for a long time, get a comp for food - they're pretty good about that. So all in all - when I get the gambling itch, this is where I go. It satisfies my hunger. You win some, you lose some. No need to write a bad review because you're mad that you lost money - that's your fault. The casino is actually expanding. The boat will be no more and all the machines and tables will be moved closer to the hotel. This should be complete around the holidays this year so I'm excited to see that. read more

No! As others have said about it, it's small-the gaming space is mostly slot machines and there's a small area for table games. They have a sectioned off 'High stakes' area but given the area and the people that I saw playing I don't think they need to devote so much space to high rollers. One roulette table, three blackjack tables, and I think that they're just kept there so it can be called a casino and not a glorified OTB or something. With so few tables the minimums are kind of so-so, I was there on a Sunday and it was $10 a hand for blackjack, which again makes me kind of sad. I'm definitely not a card shark so I dink and dunk even when I go to Vegas. I know it's the only game in town, but there are other towns nearby to go to. read more
