Out steps Shai Nan Kebab! I have been coming here for Kebabs and take aways for at least 6 years and have never been dissapointed. Sadly, last year it was closed for a spell after a fire destroyed most of the inside yet the new place is bigger and better than ever. Most of the skewered kebabs are kept in the chiller fridge for you to salivate over, as well as a great selection of Pakoras/samosa/bahji's. There is nothing done to any of this food in secret- the kitchen is all open plan as well as the prep area so you can see the cleanliness of the food/utensils/staff/prep areas. The skewered kebabs are cooked fresh to order in the tandor so there is a bit of waiting for your order but hey, who doesn't appreciate a wait when you can get to see the life-cycle of the food you are going to eat. The chapatis/rotis/naans are all freshly rolled and cooked to order so again, no 'kept' food. The menu is quite accomodating for most tastes- kebabs/curries/chicken/burgers/fish/chicken portions and then a new selection of desserts and ice cream shakes. Personally, we usually go for the 'Shai Nan Special kebab' which @ £7.50 offers chicken, lamb, shish.donner and masses of salad all wrapped in a freshly griddled naan with lashings of chilli and yoghurt sauce! Definitely one to open the top button of the jeans for! The Mr and i popped by here Sunday eve and got a Lamb tikka naan and I just had a craving for the donner meat and chips- absolutely spot on for both. Even after a 20 min wait we were still happy. Like i said, there are a lot of Take away shops on this shopping parade yet I've never considered trying any of the others as Shai Nan has never let me down and with the regular staff, open-plan kitchen & prep area and a great reputation I can quite justify driving out of my way to go here as I'm guarenteed to get exactly what I want-without fail!

The service was fast and well-mannered. There were at least 8 people in the queue and still I didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes for my order. I hope this will help anyone who wants to reward businesses who treated their staff properly over the last few weeks, and avoid those who treated their staff badly. I have been working at Frydays averagely 25 hours a week since the beginning of 2020 (my only source of income). I was away on holiday for a week from Monday 16th March, which is when the situation really escalated and businesses began to close. I realised frydays would be closing, so approached the owners on Monday the 23rd asking for them to apply for the government allowance available for me to pay 80%of my wages, they refused with vague answers. I approached them again on Wednesday 25th, asking again for them to apply for the govt assistance for my wages, they responded by telling me that I had been fired from Frydays the previous week (when I was on holiday- this was the FIRST I had heard of this) so they weren't going to apply for it for me. There had been no problems, warnings, or suggestions I would be fired before this, so it was clear they had just invented this becuase they did not want to pay my wages during the time the shop would be shut, even though it would cost literally NOTHING out of their own pocket becuase the government would reimburse them. I have been left with no income, losing out on £160 a week (80% of my wages). I hope everyone will bear these stories in mind when choosing which businesses to support when things go back to normal.

Me & the Mr went for a unplanned pizza Thurs eve to celebrate the start of our weekend (well, you know it's nice to be nice to yourself occasionally!). It was surprisingly quiet and we were shown straight to a window table (YEY!) I had to use the facilities which I must comment on as having a bit of a smell to them! Not ideal but they were clean at least. We made our selection and added a bottle of wine to accompany. Service was nice and swift. Now, I'm starting to get a bit fond of this eating out lark and the waistline is starting to show this so for the first time ever, at Pizza Express, I didn't get the dough balls!!! And, the death stare I gave at the mere suggestion of a portion getting onto our table for the Mr was indeed taken as I meant it, he got none either. i must say I was glad when the pizza came and I rarely actually finish one. I'd started to feel that my last 2 or 3 visits the pizzas have been shrinking in size but the ones provided to us Thursday definitely instilled the confidence back in me. They were piping hot, topped to perfection, and both polished off in under 15 mins! I like places who concentrate one one food and therefore if I'm looking for pizza I go here or pizza hut mainly(and the odd Dominoes) and I'm glad to say I'm still a big fan. There's always some kind of offer on and even with the wine- £23(ish) bill for 2 full bellies and a tipsy Mr was good. They know what they do and they do it well. (mostly)

The menu is a bit simple, but it works because no-one likes an over complex pizza menu. The atmosphere is always fairly good, but the fact that it's so family orientated can be annoying if you're trying to relax. This is really the only thing it can be criticised for, however, as everything else is spot on - tasty food, reasonable prices and a good selection of wines, and good service. And really nice olives.

Sometimes, however, you get the last slice of a pizza that's been sitting around for ages and has gone a little bit stale or soggy, and it's not the most pleasant culinary experience. Ooh a good tip - if you can agree on a topping, share an 18 family size - it works out cheaper and it's very exciting when the delivery man turns up. I feel like I'm in some kind of US sitcom/teen drama like Dawson's OC or something.

Anyway, a friend told us this was the nearest and tastiest place if we fancied a chinese but looking at the menu I wasn't convinced because I love those little gyoza dumplingy things from Sakura and they don't do them here, but anyway Steve was hungry and getting grumpy so we had some spring rolls and I had some of his beef in black pepper sauce. Not cheap, but not extortionate, and a lot of food for your money. There were heaps of vegetables in the beef dish but not so that the ratio made you feel jipped out of meat.
