This is one of my favourite places to visit with friends due to the light atmosphere and wide choice of dishes available. For anybody who may be a little shy to try a forgeign cuisine, English options are available. I ordered the Sirloin Steak which was, as always, cooked to perfection with just the right amount of caramelised onions. Prices are reasonable for a restaurant, around £18 for a steak dish. Quality is always present at Brio and staff have always had a 'can do' attitude.

Leeds is tough competition when it comes to Italian food and over my time in leeds I've been around most of them and decided Brio is the one for me. Its in the name and pizza really is a specialty you wont find better thin an crispy as they should be with a full range of toppings to choose from, and classic combinations at that. The Gargantua comes highly recomended a meaty feat! Pasta always perfectly cooked and delicious fancy something fishy go for the linguine alle vongole, (long flat pasta with clams garlic chilli and the like) a real classic dish. There is always a range of seasonal specials be it lobster season or something else, check them out while you wait to be seated. Brio is a great place for a speedy lunch or a hassle free dinner when you need to get your drink on. Some of the best coffee in Leeds, so dont miss out on that espresso to help you get over the post feast slump! Salute! or Gezuar!

We had been adventuring all day and we ended up arriving in time to get a food order in with the kitchen before they switched over to drinks only. We ordered the Italian Mojito, Antipasti with Prosciutto Cotto and Scamorza Affumicate, the Nonna's Meatballs, Porchetta Crostone, and Sicilian Paccheri. The mojito was delicious and had a limoncello foam on it. Very refreshing. The antipasti was truly the highlight of the meal. The meat and cheese was delicious and the bread and onion chutney was perfect with them. If we visit again we would definitely would do more of the antipasti. The Nonna's meatballs were served in a bread bowl. These were ok, but didn't blow us away. However, the bread bowl was perfect for getting extra sauce from the other dishes. The Porchetta Crostone was a highlight of the meal. Very flavorful, the bread was crispy and it was a good mix of sweet and salty. This would be something we'd order again as well. The Sicilian Paccheri was a pistachio pesto pasta and was cooked al dente and was a very tasty pasta: they were generous with the sauce too so we dipped the bread from the Nonna's meatballs in the sauce as well. It wasn't too busy while we were there and we were amongst the last customers there for the evening. The staff was friendly and they were able to bring out our food pretty quickly. The restaurant would be good for date nights, meet ups and small or large groups. While we were there a group of about ten was wrapping up and seemed to have an amazing time as well.

I had picked this one because I had not heard of pistachio as the base for pasta sauce before. The combination turned out splendid and the pasta itself was cooked the perfect amount of time. I liked that the dish was topped with whole shrimp and the meat was not tough. The wording on the plate was funny too. ----- Crab & Seabass Ink Ravioli: fresh squid ink ravioli filled with seabass & crab meat, in a slow cooked tasty Mediterranean octopus ragu (£18.95). ----- Make sure to book a table. We had a change of plans and suddenly stopped by Friday evening at 6 PM. The place was absolutely packed with both indoor and outdoor seats filled. I most recently ordered from Briggate via Uber EATS, after being hungry on a late Sunday evening in my hotel room, with mixed results. I was disappointed with my gluten-free carbonara, I found the pasta to be undercooked and planned, I did have to stir it properly after it was delivered, parts of the meat were cooked better than others, and I ended up leaving half of it. The gluten-free garlic bread and mozzarella was fine, it was nothing too exceptional, but it was fine apart from being a little greasy. I'm not sure why they didn't serve this cut up, meaning I had to struggle slicing it in my hotel room. The fact they are open until 10 pm. which extends by a further hour on Friday and Saturday is helpful, I did order towards the end of that time, so I did get the feeling they rushed the food, resulting in the quality not being as satisfactory, just because they wanted to get on out of there. Prices are a little expensive, so do be sure to take a look for a voucher, it is pretty easy to find something to save a little bit of money, but, due to setbacks caused by the pandemic, it isn't as easy to get the best offers they used to have. My meal came to £15.99 with a 25% off Uber voucher and numerous Uber fees including service charge and delivery. I wouldn't say this was value for money, as the pasta was almost inedible. 2*

A waiter met us at the door, and immediately layered on the charm, which really isn't my thing. Especially when he's old enough to be my Granddad. Nonetheless, we took a seat straight away, and perused the menu. To start, the place could well do with a refurb - it's not exactly grotty, but it's not inspiring, and has the feel of an old diner. With various Italian dishes on the menu, and pasta not really floating my boat, I opted for the mushroom pizza - being famished, there's nothing that a good bready hearty bit of carbs couldn't sort out, right? Two diet cokes ordered, and fairly quickly, the food was brought out. I spotted the waiter being a little over friendly with my companion (poor her), and hoped he might leave off so that we could at least get to eating our fare. Oh dear. Oh dear. I'm sorry, but that wasn't pizza. That was a tasteless slab of slop. Except that the odd mushroom tasted tangy and weeks old. I'm not one to complain, I find it hard to waste food - especially when there's an overfamiliar waiter lingering - but I actually had to deposit a mouthful of one bite into my napkin. I barely ate half the pizza, and was not inclined to plough on - the cheese, sparse, was entirely tasteless and sloppy, and the mushrooms had really seen better days. I couldn't believe I was about to be so British as to pay about a tenner for the whole experience. The waiter questioned my half touched plate, and I could not muster the energy to tell him that it was terrible. Hoping my almost full plate would say so, and the polite decline to take the left overs home with me, here's hoping they'll freshen their act. Creepy waiter, plus terrible pizza, plus lack lustre dining space, plus long and winding walk to the toilets, past the back door bins - it'll take a lot of convincing for me to come back.

The restaurant interior is smart, although a couple of annoying little points. Firstly, the lighting is ruined by spotlights, I almost felt as though I was in an interrogation room! Second issue, the toilets are so black and ill lit that you feel like you need a blindman's stick to navigate the toilet! However, these are minor points to the main event the food! The usual Italian fayre is available from pasta to pizza's but all a step above the usual. The focaccia bread that comes as a side to a main dish is easily big enough for two people to share and is ideal as a starter. I had pizza as a main and the quality of ingredients really shone through from the mozzarella to the parmesan to the sun dried tomatoes, amazing! For desert checkout the Tartufo Flambe' Con Sambuca which is as tasty as it is spectacular. Drinks wise I can recommend the house white, which is good enough to hold its own against any of the more expensive alternatives. Overall, the service was great, even when they messed up our starter, changed without any fuss, as it should be! Overall £55.00 for starter, two mains, two deserts, large bottle of mineral water, bottle of house white wine and espresso for one - so average for a decent restaurant. San Carlo's main competition in Leeds will be places like Bibis and Jamie's Italian but honestly I think it will hold it's own and becaome a firm favourite on the Leeds restaurant front.

I ordered the meatballs in a tomato sauce to start. The portion size was generous and there was plenty of sauce. I found the dish to be quite average. There wasn't a huge amount of flavor to them but they were fine. I would note that the dish they came in was very hot, which I found out then I touched it to turn it around! I wasn't warned of that. My friends shared a cheese and meat board which they very much enjoyed. For our main dishes I ordered the mushroom risotto with pancetta. My friends ordered the prawn linguine and the haddock risotto. My friend that had the prawn pasta dish was raving about it, and was still talking about it the next day! I was very disappointed with my risotto. The presentation was terrible and considering it was a mushroom dish, there was more pancetta than mushroom! It was also quite dry as opposed to creamy like a risotto should be. I would not recommend the dish. This is due to the elegant Broadway-styled interior which gives the place an definite air of over-the-top decadence. For starters, I had a 'small' portion (it was still huge) of flawless spaghetti bolognese, followed by a gorgeous chicken breast in mozzarella and parma ham, and topped it off with a fairly indulgent warm chocolate fudge cake. Each course was top-notch, as was the service (most of the waiters are Italian, and most of the waitresses are mighty fine), and my party ended a fine evening by each ordering a ridiculously large cocktail, which are like Bibi's in a nutshell: huge, tasty and glitzy.
