I knew I would like Kat to be my doula the first time I met her on Zoom! Teri was super knowledgeable, and Kat had this calming energy and healing aura, which helped me decide to go with the Harmony Doula Group. Before birth, we attended multiple classes taught by Teri, some of them were online, some were in person. Most of them were private classes so we got to ask any questions we wanted and got them answered. During birth, Kat was there for us every step of the way. By far the most knowledgeable, caring, and amazing group of women ever! Two things every pregnant woman should have: a great doula team and a great pelvic floor therapist. We interviewed several doulas and we knew that Teri and her team who we lovingly call Doula University were the perfect fit for us. We ended up interacting with every team member and were pleased with their level of expertise and care. We opted to purchase the "Advanced Team, Essentials Plus Package" and let me tell you it was priceless! Sidenote- you can use your health savings account to pay for this service! Preparation: We loved the comprehensive childbirth education classes and home visit which were full of practical tips and tricks. I also loved the reading material and lending library. I ended up using the hypnobirthing and meditation resources and they really paid off! Zoey was amazing and an expert on spinning babies. She gave us great exercises and attended my ECV which resulted in a successful flip. I am forever grateful for her calming energy. We still practice the stretches that the group taught us! I also got amazing referrals to a local prenatal chiro and pelvic floor therapist from the doulas. Labor and Delivery: I credit the doulas for having helped me have a beautiful and magical birth! I labored mostly at home. My husband was in communication with Teri and the doula team. They talked us through some at home tips. Brooke ended up coming to our house and helping with our transfer to the hospital. When we got to the hospital she was great about making sure my birthplan was followed, diming the lights for me, helping my husband and I through birth positions. When I developed nausea she and her apprentice Kim would wave peppermint at me. It was amazing! In the later part of labor Sheila came in and did a great job of massaging my legs and getting me through the finish line. After my birth she even stuck around until I was transferred. She also got the best pictures and videos. I am so grateful for all that they did! Placenta Encapsulation: I wasn't sure I would be able to do placenta encapsulation but ended up being able to. Teri did a wonderful job. I got capsules with instructions, a salve, and a tincture. I really think it helped balance me out after birth. I also added the sits bath herbs and loved them. I am so thankful to the whole team. They checked in on us and made sure all was well and continued to be a resource for breast feeding and other miscellaneous questions. It was the first birth of a child for my husband and I and although we did a lot of study the decision was made to have some extra help and support. I must say having the care and assistance of Harmony Doula Group was the best decision we made in regards to support through this whole process. Teri was wonderful in connecting us with the other Doulas in the group as well as going through the classes with us. We were truly blessed to have the presence of Sheila for about 13 hours of our labor and Zoey for the last few hours. Sheila was so wonderful helping my husband and I labor at home as long as we could. She aided in giving my husband time to take care of his own needs and was wonderful when it came to giving us coping ideas. Also she was so great at stepping in and suggesting a change in activity when we had been sticking to one thing for a while. Being able to labor at home for the majority of our labor was truly wonderful and a memory I will always cherish. Once we got to the hospital it was stressful because our nurse was not nice and Sheila was so great about stepping in once I was able to get off the monitor and suggest letting me get in the shower to get me through the transition portion of me labor. She got me in the shower turned off the lights stuck these cute candle lights in there and mostly shut the door and left me in there with my husband. It was really tough at that point and being able to labor in the shower like that was so wonderful it almost felt like I was home. I'd also like to add that when I had the option of getting my water broken because my labor wasn't really progressing Sheila offered advice when I asked for it. I hadn't wanted to do it because I was worried about the labor getting worse and not progressing naturally. Sheila was so incredibly in calming my mind and making me feel better about my decision. I must say the best moments of my labor were because Sheila was there! I will always love her and feel gratitude toward her for her dedication and the love she gave with her care. Zoey was also really wonderful. Poor thing came when I had miserably been in my transition stage of labor for about 2 to 3 hours already while having back labor the entire time. I was in a lot of pain and had a nurse who kind of ruined my wonderful labor experience thus far. Zoey was so great trying to redirect my thoughts and was so kind and supportive and my husband and I were so glad for her positive and caring presence. After our beautiful son was born we were blessed with another visit by Sheila which was so nice to be able to talk about the delivery; the highs and lows of it. I really needed to talk about it. We were also blessed by a visit with their postpartum Doula Susan and I must say it was such a pleasure. I didn't know what I should do with her and she really honed in on what I needed at that time which was something so simple as helping my tackle my mountain of thank you cards that needed to be written. I am so thankful that we hired the doulas of the Harmony Doula Group to be with us for the delivery of our first child in April this year. My husband and I were so thankful for the labor and delivery classes offered beforehand because they helped us feel more prepared for this event. I was able to do a lot of the pre-birth and some active labor at home thanks to the guidance of Zoey over the phone. When it was time to go to the hospital she met us there and continued to coach us throughout the whole process. I had my first child in under 14 hours without the need of an epidural and I credit this to my amazing support team (my husband and our doula) who kept encouraging me to focus on and tap into my inner strength throughout the whole process. From my wife, Miranda M.: I used Harmony Doula Group twice for the births of my 3rd and 4th children. Using HDG made my vaginal births possible: my first two births were c-sections which in all likelihood were unnecessary. Susan was my doula for the birth of my 3rd baby and Brooke was my doula for the birth of my 4th. I was reassured to know that my doula would have the resources of several other doulas and that she wouldn't be too exhausted to do a good job during my labor as that was one of the issues during my 2nd labor that led to it being a surgical delivery. Both Susan and Brooke did an amazing job managing the people around me, allowing my husband to be focused on me. Prior to the birth, all the doulas came and met with me and everyone who would be present at so we were all familiar with each other. They made sure I was educated about normal birth and some of the more common variations, and they asked me extensive questions about how I felt about various ways to manage and move through labor and delivery and what my priorities and goals were. Both the deliveries they attended went really smoothly, partly because everything stayed healthy and partly because my doulas helped me and the people around me according to follow my wishes. With my 3rd child, I was almost 2 weeks late by my count and had email discussions of how long to wait and what my options were. I went into labor at home and by the time I got to the hospital, I was having pushing contractions but was only at 7cm. Susan helped me make the decision to get an epidural to slow things down and then kept me reassured that I'd still have a vaginal delivery until it happened. A week afterwards, she came and discussed the birth with me and checked on how I was doing. I was feeling better than I'd ever felt postpartum. Two years later with my 4th child, I went 3 weeks late by my count and tried every natural induction technique that I could find, including castor oil 3 times. I kept in touch with HDG through the whole time and eventually, I decided to ask for an induction. I talked to Brooke and we all decided that she would come once I was in active labor. It was good that everyone managed to get some sleep as active labor turned out to be only 2 hours long. Brooke took over from my husband who was trying to keep me off an epidural (my request). She persuaded me to try getting into the shower and got the hospital to give me the appropriate monitors. Waiting to try the shower got me to 9 cm and a couple contractions later I was pushing under the direction of a midwife and Brooke was keeping me calm and rubbing my back. A few minutes and several positions later, I was holding my baby. When we eventually weighed him, he was 10lbs 12oz, the largest of my babies. My experiences with Harmony Doula Group has been extremely positive and I highly recommend them. We hired Harmony Doula for the birth of our second child. Our first experience went terribly wrong from the beginning and ended in a c-section. We really wanted a natural birth and knew from the past that having another advocate would be truly important since decisions in the moment are difficult due to lack of sleep and stress. Our second birth started the same as our first, but the doula joined us about 10 hours into our induction. Thirty hrs of labor meant we had two separate doula's support us and both were fantastic. Without them I do not think we would have made it as far as we did, and I know there were a few times when their advice and encouragement allowed us to keep as natural a birth as possible. I did end up with an epidural, but having the doula there to discuss the option without pressure really helped me mentally. I was unable to relax enough to let any of the process work and once the epidural was in, out he came as my body relaxed. The doula saved me from an extra dose of medication to my epidural which was not necessary as I didn't need to be completely numb, but I wasn't of sound enough mind to question what they were doing without her prodding. For the hours of labor prior to the epidural, the doulas were fantastic at providing advice and support: aromatherapy, position suggestions, hip pressure, holding my hands while my husband caught a few minutes of sleep; they were just truly amazing. I would highly recommend harmony doula, even if you think you have support (my husband is amazing and my mother was around). You only give birth a few times in your life, but these women have been around countless births and there is no way to replace that experience. read more

I highly recommend this amazing doula group. Their birth classes are very informative and were personalized to our specific situation (our daughter has a heart defect, of which we learned at our 20 week ultrasound), and they are so caring and involved. The great thing about a group is that you are sure that you'll get one of the doula's you already know, instead of a back-up doula you may never have met - in case someone else is having a baby at the same time. My labor was exactly how I hoped it would be, all natural, and I simply could not have done it without my doula. She was also looking after my husband, who was struggling with seeing me in so much pain and simply did not know all the tricks and tips to help me get through it. I highly recommend Harmony Doula Group. I was hesitant about hiring a doula for my second birth when my first was a successful, short, relatively easy natural labor. But I was worried it would be quick and friends and family might be too far to make it. Also I have a history of bleeding and wanted the emotional support. Well my second labor turned out to be longer and much harder, I'm so glad I had a doula! After 3 days of prodromal labor, one of the four fantastic doulas came to my house to try some techniques to either stop labor or get it going for real. I was in active labor within the hour. I had my daughter a few hours later. I had terrible back labor and my doula was there for every single contraction pushing on my hips, significantly reducing the pain. I did lose a lot of blood during labor and I never even knew it. My husband and Doula made sure the staff didn't mention it and kept it out of my site. When it came time to push, another wonderful doula showed up and together they helped me get through the pain and mental blocks. After birth one of the doulas stayed with me and helped me in every way. From getting me water, to gathering all my things to change rooms, and answering all my questions. I'm so grateful they were there and couldn't have done it without them. read more
