I couldn't help but stand and watch how well he worked, careful footing, tiny pruning sheets, totalky enveloped in his toil. I bumped into a volunteer who told me a bit about the lake behind the main building, the picnic area, the baseball fields --- a sweetheart of a lady, and so generous with her time. I loved the tall pine trees and the pine straw bed they laid down around the picnic table area. We sat breathing in the sweetest air, observing peace -- absorbing tranquility, this is a wonderfully calming place.

Someone behind us let us know it was a special themed night. The highlight was the pug parade-anyone who brought a pug and wanted to participate got to walk their dog around the stadium. We had such a great time, and our dog Luna did amazing! Apparently, every Tuesday is Bark in the Park, where all dogs are welcome. Each week usually features a specific breed, but dogs of any kind are allowed. They provide water bowls throughout the stadium and often have pet-related merchandise available. Oh, and the RiverDogs beat the Columbia Fireflies-perfect ending to a fun, pet-friendly night!

The turf is synthetic, and a running track surrounds it, but it's not open to the public. You can come out on Tuesday nights and do track work with the Park Circle Pacers run club, though. Stoney Field is also the site of the Cooper River Bridge Run Kids Run, which is a wonderful family-friendly event held every September. The CRBR Kids Run is sponsored by so many local businesses and offers the kids finisher's medals, shirts, hot dogs, and other goodies. It's a great way to model healthy habits for our next generation. The stadium has plenty of seating and tons of parking, sharing parking with the Joseph Riley (Riverdogs) Park, MUSC, and The Citadel. The roads in this area do flood, so be careful around king tides.

There are softball fields, a kids play grounds, plenty of hiking trails and a beautiful large lake and dock. We spent a few hours hiking the trails. They are well maintained and the views are breath taking. The lake is large and beautiful and looks to house several species of fish. There is a board walk and two floating docks on each side for shore fishing. We plan to come back with our kayaks for a day of fishing. There are picnic tables and a few BBQ grills. Perhaps a picnic lunch and then kayaking. The park is dog friendly with a leash. Lots of people walking and enjoying the quiet scenery and fall weather. You won't want to pass up West Ashley Park.
