I would say this venue has been booking more new and exciting bands over the past five years. Please please keep these shows coming. Makes me happy to see more punk/goth/metal shows happening here. I went to the recently sold out Die Spitz show and I was amazed how much energy the crowd had. You won't see no mosh pit at Golden One Center. I love going to concerts, but somehow in all my years, I have somehow never attended a show at Harlow's. Located on J Street on the 27th block, this small club exceeded all my expectations for this show. Parking is mostly all neighborhood parking at street meters, but the venue only holds maybe 300 so its not horrible Going through security and ticket check was relatively quick and painless, with security and employees all easy going and pleasant. Once inside, the merch tables were a little cramped, but merch was displayed prominently and transactions were quick and easy. The bar area to right when you first walk in takes up almost the whole wall, with multiple bartenders taking orders and serving customers so ordering a beer was quick to come, ice cold and not ridiculously marked up compared to other places .They also had various mixed drink options. The actual floor/stage area was small, intimate and surrounded at back and on side with raised area with some tables and chairs that were reserved, I assume for an extra price (I didnt inquire). The acoustics were quite good, considering the bands playing(opener was a so cal punk band called The Mainliners), headliner was a heavy metal stoner/grunge type band from Norway (Slomosa). A great evening of music, venue is exceptional, looking forward to finding a show I can take the wife too, as I never explored the back or upper areas that I understand add even more layers to an exceptional experience at this venue. read more

Great experience, live music. Good bar service. If you don't reserve a table you'll be standing but can always go to the back patio area and sit outdoors under some beautiful trees and lighting. Bathrooms have multiple stalls so the lines goes quickly, they have a half mirror and a full body mirror too so ask if they are in line or just using the mirror. I gave them four stars because the last few times I've been there it gets extremely hot and we pay to get in so why no AC ? They do have a water station so get plenty of water please. It depends on the band you go see but the crowd has always been a mixture when I've been. And I like that there's no problems we just dance and enjoy the music. read more

I was invisible. The wager smiled at me. One time sitting at the table for 2 hours only had one table with two chairs. No wonder they charge more for the other booths cuz they only have one waitress. That's how they cut costs. The wine was awful. Awful! Cabernet Sauvignon. Harlow's was such a vibe! I'm so upset that I hadn't visited sooner! A band I'm familiar with (members are childhood friends) was playing and I said this is the time! Friendly security and front desk staff. Harlow's has an open floor plan which was nice. We paid for seating and enjoyed a booth with the perfect view of the stage. I wasn't excited about the menu (typical bar fare) but to our shock the Harlow's Burger AND fries absolutely smacked! Burger and fries are totally shareable. I enjoyed a blackberry cider (too bitter for my taste) but overall the dining experience exceeded my assumed expectations. I've been checking the calendar regularly so we can return. We came for the Irish palooza which was fun. The live music and dancing were great. The drinks were good. If you want to be able to sit down you have to pay extra. You feel bad too when you stand because you block the view of those who have paid for seating. I was trying to talk to the front door people but they weren't very chatty or helpful. This was my first time at the Scarlett Room which is part of Harlow's. every person from the front door to the gal Bartending that was from Manteca... (Rebecca, i hope that is right name)was Soo nice and welcoming. And the chef, Cinco was super D Duper nice. He Came up and introduced himself. I tried the veggie tacos and they were tasty. I looked for him at the end but couldn't find him. I went in a Sunday night to see my friends play... there wasn't a lot of people.. but was a very nice little spot. Pretty cool venue in the city. Parking isn't the worst around the area you'll Probally have to walk there though. Sound in the venue travels well and sounds great. A good floor too so even in a sold out show it doenst feel too crowded/like your a sardine. Workers are chill, very good at their jobs. The private higher area with seating is nice, kind of hard to see the stage at the best angle but there really are no bad seats since it's such a small venue. Lighting is cool and well designed. Overall good experience and will want to see more shows here in the future, want to check out the Starlet room next. read more

Harlow's--- bar/ concert venue!!! My first time was this past Friday for mason Jennings!! The show was amazing! I think this is a nice bar/ venue! It was small, but cute and quaint. They have a full bar and a menu! I did try the Mozarella sticks and they were really good! Cheese pull approved! I don't like how they also had a show upstairs. You could hear it during the show I was at, which is a big turn off! But for pretty cheap tickets and a midtown location I guess I won't complain! The people working were nice too! I would come back again- but like I said having a show upstairs while you have one downstairs is shitty! read more

We stopped into Harlow's for a special event and I really didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised by the space. They checked IDs at the door and our tickets for the event were scanned as we walked in. We were there early and it was pretty spacious with limited seating for the amount of people at the event we were attending. We made our way to the bar and ordered some drinks. The drinks seemed to range from $8-$15 and most of the drinks we ordered were $14. They also offer some food options which is nice! They utilized the stage for the event we attended and the audio, lighting and event were well done. They also have a back, outdoor, area that was decorated for Halloween and was a nice area to get a bit more personal space and fresh air. They had multiple bathrooms available, but I didn't use the facilities during this visit. After visiting, I would definitely come back again, but maybe come even earlier or buy the premium tickets to snag a seat instead of standing the whole time. read more

I went to see my favorite jazzy, soul, pop artist John Splithoff and he was phenomenal live! I enjoyed every second of his set. It was my first time at Harlows. Finally I had gotten an experience here. That night was open floor standing. There were couple columns in the middle that I thought were in the way. The kitchen was near the stage and the aromas of the food lingered out, I thought it was distracting. Overall, good experience at Harlows. read more

We end up at Harlow's once or twice a year. Always a good time, and have never had any issues. There have always been clean enough and stocked bathrooms and decent drinks. Last night we went to a cover band show and sat in the reserved tables in the back and the server was probably the best we have had- always kept the drinks and food coming out to everyone. read more

I was abruptly told to look online, informed that they were closed, and told to leave. I turned to walk back the 3 steps that I had taken inside, and the employee walked right behind me, ushering me out the door. I already knew about purchasing tickets online, but I figured I'd stop by and purchase tickets beforehand so I could avoid the online fees. Very Poor customer relations. Event was postponed for Austin Brown from Jan 31 to June 6th. Was given until Feb 16th to decide if I wanted a refund or not. NO EXCEPTIONS. So the Artist can cancel the day before the event, causing me to forfeit my hotel deposit, but I have to decide 4 Months in advance if I can make the new date. I wasn't able to confirm my schedule that fast. I called on Mar 9th. NOPE too late. Options, sell them. Give to a friend. ... and then "click" hung up. Horrible experience and no options. Expanding Into Fun DJ-Dance Events More! SITREP I've always enjoyed Harlow's a swanky speakeasy dinner theatre that hosts some really sweet bands. But I love seeing more of the kind of DJ-Dance events that l like to participate in. Usually the fun Gothic-Industrial events I like to patronize have been relegated to the Starlet Lounge ABOVE Harlow's on the 2nd Floor. Starlet is a great venue in itself, but much much smaller, with considerably less square footage for it's dancefloor. CHANGE-OF-HEART Now apparently the management have had a change of heart and realize that not only is it good business for them, but it's great for the loyal Gothic-Industrial scene to *open up* the larger Harlow's venue dancefloor to this loyal dance scene. THE SETUP Harlow's dancefloor is a nice large expansive floor that has tables and booth around the perimeter. There is a large expansive bar that is located on the right hand side as soon as you enter the venue. Makes it quite convenient to grab a drink, and then go and peruse the rest of the venue. HUGE PATIO! The patio is (almost) a venue in and of itself! Both lawned and hard surfaced-pathed, there are times when there is a DJ spinning out back here with some pretty chill music to relax to, or even host their own dance patio here! Very cool artistic media is thrown up onto the high walls and on some nights, the patio - which is accessible directly from Harlow's and by the staircase leading up & down from the Starlet Lounge - can be quite the multi-venue event space which can be accessed and intermixed by both venues at the same time. THE LOWDOWN I love this venue, and the best part? I live only 3 blocks away! read more

I appreciate Harlow's for bringing talented artists to the Sacramento area. The venue is nice and the sound quality is decent. I hope that Harlow's bring more old school r&b, jazz neo soul and hip hop artists to Sacramento to better compete with Yoshis so I don't have to always drive to the Bay. This place is embarrassing, but completely in line with what Sacramento generally has to offer. Much like other reviewers here, the creepy doorman/bouncer took a picture of both of us Upon entering. Give me a BREAK!! On top of that, we got massive attitude from him again when we stepped outside for a smoke. So now in and out is a big deal? Sadly this is one of the few places left for shows after covid wiped out the Blue Lamp, which was amazing in every way. Harlow's is embarrassing, but apparently people from Sac think it is the norm. We went to see the same show again in SF, and it was like night and day. it seems like the bands also have issues with this place, because they show that they had in SF was so much better. it sounded better, the band was clearly in a far more joyous mood, and the crowd was of course having much more fun. Lesson learned, we will simply skip the Sac show next time and go to SF Instead. Please come back Blue Lamp!! This wannabe gulag is an embarrassing excuse for an actual club. read more

Back to Conscious Vibes....so they hosted the Soul Karaoke and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Let's admit the following.................................. LOCATION: When has Harlow's been a bad place to host anything? Said NO one.....Not never. So........ to have it there was a great idea. The lights were low. There was seating ...only if you arrived early and knew somebody () Thanks Quia Ford I loved my usual spot!! And the drinks are NOT overly priced. AMBIENCE: As I Said the lights were low...... and for 2 seconds you felt like you were somewhere else. The music was grown! The DJ played some legit music. VIBE: The vibe was grown and hella chill. No one was trying to do too much. Just grown folks enjoying the night life and listening to some good music. Through karaoke and the DJ! Could everyone sing?! Absolutely NOT. But that's not the point. It was the music they chose that had the crowd lit......I ain't saying some names but....someone killed Michael McDonald and Gretchen Wilson. IJS. It was fun and dope. CROWD: Can I say adults were in the building! What do I mean...... those lost 70s/80s babies that are grown but still look like they are 20! The crowd can get ratchet cause we grew up listening to Juvenile and Lil Kim but prefer Goapele and Snoh Alegra cause our knees ain't what they used to be! That crowd! My only issue.....no food. Does that matter, no? Because you can order Door Dash! Just be classy with it: meet your delivery person outside. Do not make a scene when your food arrives. Do not think you're Jesus and trying to feed 10,000 with what you have! Now, should you go?! Of course you should go. It is a good time out! It is safe asf! And you never know how will pop up! All kinds of things went wrong with this night. First of all, let me qualify that by saying the bands were awesome. Great music! Also, our server was pretty cool. The line to get in was extremely slow because the bouncer was not only checking IDs, but scanning the back of the ID with his phone, verifying something on the screen, and then TAKING A PHOTO OF THE PERSON'S FACE! Aw, HELL NO. This is a major privacy violation and made me want to leave right then and there, but we paid for the tickets. I told the bouncer I wasn't going to drink so he didn't need to see my ID. He was grumpy about it, but let me in, albeit with big black sharpie Xs on the back of my hands. Lame. We paid to see the bands and decided since we're going to eat there too, we'd also pay ($100!!) extra for a table. It was our friend's birthday so we wanted to make it special. We were seated, ordered drinks, and then informed that the kitchen was closed. Are you kidding me? We were welcome to order food from the Mexican place next door and bring it in. Fine, I guess, but unfortunate since that Mexican joint is kinda expensive. A $90 order of food later, I got up to go pick it up and was told at the door that there was no in-and-out privileges. I couldn't leave. Seriously? I argued with the doorman for a bit and he finally let me go get our food. No place has charged me so much and made me feel less welcome than Harlow's. It would have to be a pretty damn good band before I go back there. And I'm certainly not going to buy drinks if they continue to violate their customers' privacy. read more

This is a small venue on the 2nd floor. We watched 3 bands perform. The bar was very good with the mixed drinks. I only had one as I normally don't drink. The first and third bands were balanced ok between the instruments and the vocals. The 2nd band had the snare drum way too loud which overshadows the performance. I believe the venue's sound man was to blame as he is responsible for balancing the sound. The second band played excellent music but one had to listen very hard to hear the vocals as the venue's sound man didn't do his job. On a Saturday night, this venue should have full but it was fairly sparse. Management should improve the sound balancing to really showcase the talents of the bands playing. I know what I'm talking about because not only am I an audiophile, but I was the former videographer for a band that played in Sonoma County and one of my jobs was to zoom in on the solos of lead guitarist, keyboardist, and drummer. I once told their sound guy who was at the controls of the mixer that he was way off. He made the adjustments and people were now dancing. read more

BEWARE!! they take advantage of drunk guests and over charge them at the bar!! Last night, I was charged for drinks I didn't even order. I went here with a friend and my boyfriend. When we first arrived, I got a round of vodka shots for us (3 total). Then I got a vodka Red Bull, and later another shot. Then a cocktail at the very end. I was drunk but not drunk enough to not be aware of my surroundings. Total I got 4 shots and 2 drinks. So tell me why I was charged for 6 shots and 2 drinks?? Did they put someone else's order on my tab? I brought it up to the bartender last night, but he acted like there was no mistake and I didn't feel like causing a scene so I left it. My boyfriend was sober and he knows what I ordered. Pull up the cameras and you'll see I'm right. This is SO messed up of them to take advantage of young drunk people. Harlow's security management is ridiculous I am so disappointed in their lack of communication and complete disregard for people's time I stood outside in a line for an hour telling us that we were in the wrong line and it was them not telling people where to go or how to line up. I visited Harlow's a few months back for a show featuring '80's pop sensation, Tiffany, whose cover of "I Think We're Alone Now" has been on my Spotify top 100 for a few years now. After receiving a targeted ad on Facebook that the show had discounted tickets for something like $20 (I don't quite remember - but they were quite affordable!) I figured I should visit, and was super glad I did! I'm really glad to see Harlow's has been taking COVID precautions seriously. The venue is requiring proof of vaccination and has tables spaced out away from each other. This was one of my first shows in over a year and a half and I definitely felt safe throughout. I even had my own table to myself! I arrived about a half hour before the show began. Getting ID'd was easy and I was the only person in line at that point. I went inside and immediately found a table for myself - one of roughly 8 or so on the venue floor. It wasn't a very packed show, but I was happy about it. It ended up being quite intimate - and, again - safe! The menu was available on the table via a QR code and I decided on their pork belly tacos. A burger sounded good, too, but I had already had a bit of a dinner - so something small made the most sense. This was my first visit, so I had to have something, right? I couldn't comment on how service might be during a busier show, but the waitress was attentive, visited me almost immediately, and the food came out super quick. Pork belly tacos were tasty and reasonably priced. And the tortilla chips were surprisingly good! I could take or leave tortilla chips, but I could've eaten a lot of these. Not sure if they were made in-house or what. As for the show, Tiffany was great, and I had an excellent vantage point of the show, no matter where I was, alternating between sitting at my table and standing behind the small crowd on the floor. The show started pretty much right on time and I was home before 10 PM. Not bad for a Wednesday! I definitely recommend Harlow's for smaller, intimate gigs. Again, I'm impressed at their commitment to keeping their staff and customers safe. This is how it should be, so we can all get back to seeing the live music we love ASAP! read more

I'm so glad I finally had the opportunity to visit Harlow's! I've been driving past this place for decades, curious and knowing it had to be cool as there was always a lineup outside. And finally a band I loved played their first Sacramento show here, and a love affair was born. I love venues that are small like this but not claustrophobic. The interior is beautiful and welcoming, the sound quality is great, and the bartender I interacted with made an exquisite Manhattan. I want to give a big shout out to the security team at Harlow's. We were at Emo Night with some friends and noticed that a man was making a group of women uncomfortable, I asked one of the women if the guy was being a problem and she told me it's an ex that's not supposed to be there. I had my partner separate them while I went to talk to security. I explained the situation briefly and the security guard said "no problem", came right over them and escorted him out. The whole situation went smoothly and professionally and everyone had a great time the rest of the event. Their security is on point! read more

This venue is great specifically because of the Burley Clines show. This show is always top notch, seasoned, beautiful performers. The host is incredibly knowledgeable in her industry and it shows in her shows. Every time we can make it to one, it's a highlight of our month. More queer art like this show is needed. read more
