The rich history of an American motorcycle/automotive juggernaut is on stunning display at this beautiful campus, which is COMPLETE with the museum, restaurant, concert area, TWO stores (they have their own Outlet; "come on, can you say 75% OFF on a leather Harley Davidson jacket?!"), original structure from when the Davidson brothers and Harley started making magic, and grassy areas for picnics or just hanging out. I took advantage of the $4.14 ticket deal on 4/14 day. It was my first visit to Harley Davidson museum and I was impressed! The customer service counter had motorcycle windshields which I thought was clever. I appreciated that the staff member let me know the bathrooms are on the first floor so I went there first before heading to the start of the museum on the 2nd floor. So many motorcycles to see! It was fun to see how they have progressed over time. The engine wall was beautiful, very aesthetically pleasing. I most enjoyed the displays that included anecdotes from the riders. The Harley Davidson Museum is a high quality addition to things to do while in Milwaukee. It' looks quite new and modern and fits in a HD campus that also includes other buildings that house a bar b q restaurant, two clothing and gift stores and an event venue all along the Menomonee River near downtown. Parking is free. The museum is a 2 story structure and costs $25 for an adult and less for kids. I would budget about 2 hours to go through it and I thought it was well worth the time and cost. Yes this museum is all about motorcycles and The Motor Company (that's what employees call Harley Davidson) that became an American institution. The museum starts on the 2nd floor and then you finish on the 1st floor. They have cycles starting with their first one (1903) all of the way to the present ones (2026). Pretty fun place, you can sit on some motorcycles, thy have an area for kids to read, dress up, and ride a fake hog. They have a guess-who game too. There is also a lot of interesting history you learn about, obviously how HD dealt with the ebbs and flows of manufacturing during wars, depressions, etc. Great museum for kids! read more

Cate Dingley EZY Riders: Representation without Respect? In my interactions with Cate Dingley, I felt I was treated differently because I am Black. I did not feel that my professional qualifications or other Black professionals were respected or taken seriously, and the contempt I experienced was both clear and troubling. Because of that, I find it deeply problematic that she positions herself as a curator and interpreter of Black motorcycle culture. It raises serious questions about how she engages with Black people in practice versus how she presents herself in her work. From my perspective, this is not just about one interaction. It speaks to a larger pattern in which Black culture is studied, packaged, and presented by people who do not demonstrate genuine respect or accountability to the community itself. Based on my experience, her work sits uncomfortably within that pattern. read more

We had the guided tour, which included a visit to the motorcycle vault. The history of the bikes is fascinating, but the way that the tour is presented can get boring at times. It's a no-touch place, which I get, since some of these pieces are artifacts, but having a few more hands-on opportunities here and there would help. Some of my favorite pieces were the police motorcycles and Elvis Presley's bike, too. I had hoped that we would get more photo ops in the vault, which you could ask for, but they secure it so hard that you think you might get sniped if you come too close to anything. It'll get the job done if you're looking for something "interesting" in Milwaukee, but don't expect it to be what the site makes it out to be, unless you're really into Harleys like that. read more

I really love what they did with the Harley campus. There's plenty of room to park which is rare when you're downtown. The museum is one of many buildings and they have collected so much over the years including rare older bikes used for mail delivery and in the armed forces which was really cool to see. On Thursdays during the summer they also host bike nights with live music, food and drink outdoors and a chance to see some cool bikes. I've also been a few times for private events upstairs and the catering has been absolutely delicious, including charcuterie boards and the like. The staff have been warm and welcoming, too. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area and even a little bit curious about the history of Harley. read more

I'm so glad we decided to stop by this museum! It was such a fun and engaging experience, with the perfect mix of history and interactive exhibits. I took way more photos than I can possibly share because everything was that fascinating--and I'm not even a Harley owner. I especially enjoyed learning about the connections to law enforcement and the role of women in the history, which made the visit even more meaningful. Afterward, we checked out the restaurant and bar across the way, and it was just as impressive. I don't drink, but their non-alcoholic beer was honestly the best I've ever had. I came here on a very cold Sunday on a quick family trip. The customer service rep talked us into getting a yearly membership considering it was only 7$ more. The museum itself is very clean and they have a coat rack so we didn't have to lug our heavy winter coats around. I liked that they had a scavenger hunt, of things to find in the museum. It wasn't as easy as we thought and it kept my son engaged for the duration of our visit. I loved the entire museum but my favorite part was the motorcycle vault. It was cool to see all the archived bikes! This museum has something for all ages as there is so much history and information on the motorcycles throughout. I loved this museum! Every type of Harley Davidson is displayed and brought back many good memories. There are some motorcycles that you are allowed to sit on for picture taking. Don't pass this up. I'd like to review the museum itself which is hardly just for motorcycle enthusiasts. This is an excellent history museum, which teaches us about Industrialization. Still, if you love motorcycles, you might get more out of the museum than a fan of history. Harley Davidson is a brand that is iconic in Milwaukee; so we had to tour the museum when we were visiting from South Florida. My husband is a HOG member; so his admission was free. (He also received some nice souvenir HD pins.). My entrance was $24; and purchasing tickets at the time of arrival was a breeze! The museum is very clean and spacious. Of course the motorcycles are what everyone comes to see, and they had just about every variety ever made from the early 1900's to the present day on display. Each one was labeled and the details were printed out on signs in front. So many styles and colors....its a bit overwhelming! There are also dozens of rooms and hallways that explain how Harley Davidson got its start and showcase all kinds of HD and general motorcycle memorabilia. I especially enjoyed the wall of gas tanks because the colors were beautiful and it was fun to look at all the incredible artwork and how it changed over 100 years! It took us about 2 hours to tour the entire museum, (2 floors,) and we definitely did not get a chance to read everything about HD in there that there was. They also have a regular gift shop and an outlet shop where you can buy everything like basics shirts and boots to blankets, gloves, glasses, and Christmas ornaments. I would recommend the Harley Davidson Museum to all motorcycle enthusiasts and others who just wasn't to learn about Harley's amazing history. read more

Incredible! The museum had everything I hoped it did, particularly, the individual rider photos and their personal stories. I loved the tanks throughout the ages and original military war films. The long history and sheer diversity of Harley motorcycles will easily hold your attention for 2 hours. I've had the pleasure of dining at Halle Davidson's restaurant over the years, I've been extremely disappointed twice in a row with the staffing level. This translated into exceptional, low level of service. The first time I got there the restaurant had maybe 10 tables seated. I was told it'd be a 25 minute wait because they only had two waitresses on the floor on a Friday afternoon. So I decided to sit at the bar and was served by a friendly bartender however, the food took over 20 minutes to come out. Flash forward three weeks later again on a Friday and I went right to the bar to sit down and order. I was told I fried fish plate with you about 25 minutes to come out. I can only explain this as poor staffing in the kitchen. Will Harley Davison corporate has issues with production and marketing right now, somebody a corporate needs to focus on the dining experience that many people partake in when they come to visit the Harley-Davidson Museum Milwaukee and thrift shops. There is a lot of great history at this museum. Displays are excellent. I recommend getting to the museum in the morning so one can get the best parking spots. This museum is mesmerizing. I really enjoyed the interesting history of this great company. I learned so much in the few hours I was there. I saw so many motorcycles through their 120 years. Some were from the very beginning and they do have one from every year of their existence. I loved the setup. Even though there were many visitors there was ample room to move around. The only thing negative I can say is there are few employees. I had a couple questions and some visitors gave me the answers. I think they should have more employees on duty. They also have a restaurant and two gift shops on property. One of the gift shops we did not visit because the kine was probably half a mile long. This was a big celebration weekend for them so that is why. read more

While visiting in Milwaukee we stopped by The Harley-Davdson Museum. It was another highlight of our trip. A true historic gem in Milwaukee. In honesty this wasn't one of the places on my list to visit. But I'm so grateful for the visit. There is beyond so much to see in this place. I was in awe of the history behind the name. Legendary. There are so many beautiful different styles of motorcycle to see in this place. They even have a kiddie room for the little one's to dress up in their biker gear. I'm so happy that I came here to witness this wonderful place. They even have a restaurant on the lower level as well as a gift shop. The extra fun part was at the end of the tour was being able to hop on one of the bikes to take a pic. read more

This place is the "Mecca" for Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiasts. Situated on a 20 acre campus like park, It boasts a two story structure with exhibits of Harley Davidson motorcycles memorabilia. There's also a separate gift shop, the H-D Factory Outlet, and a separate restaurant, the Motor Bar & Restaurant. We arrived on our motorcycles on Thursday, 07.13.2023, the first day of the 120th HARLEY-DAVIDSON HOMECOMING FESTIVAL where we encountered thousands of other HD owners wishing to visit this iconic site. First and foremost, I'd highly recommend one purchase tickets online before going. We had done that, thankfully, because the line to purchase tickets was probably at least a hundred deep. We avoided the long wait by showing our e-tickets and was able to proceed directly to the exhibits. The exhibition was very informative and interesting. The bikes displayed were from the earliest creation of the HD motorcycle to present day. Some interesting bikes, dates and events were: * 1907 HD incorporated and sold its first stock to its employees and board members. Its bike cost $210 and it could travel over 500 miles on a tank of oil. * 1925 HD marked a major turning point with the new low frame JCDB F-Head, V-Twin which came to now be known as the "classic Harley Davidson" * In 1936 a Legend was Born with the "EL" - a bike that was designed for unparalleled performance and efficiency. Fast Forward to March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck the northeast coast of the Tohoku region of Japan's Honshu island, causing a tsunami with a maximum wave height of almost 40 meters (130 feet) in the Iwate Prefecture. It swept a HD motorcycle from Yamamoto Miyagi Prefecture. - Japan all the way to beaches of Graham Island, British Columbia Canada - a distance of over 4,000 miles! It left Japan March 11, 2011 and was discovered in Canada April 18, 2012. I could go on and on, but I know not everyone is as enthusiastic about HD as I am. So if you're still with me reading this, I sincerely appreciate your time. Found ourselves in Milwaukee on a nice Sunday. Stopped in to see this great museum. Confession: I am a Harley rider, but had no idea the whole enterprise started in Milwaukee. So - really enjoyed all of the displays. Super rare and one-off bikes. Great multi-floor layout. Seemingly ample parking. Discount merchandise store and latest merchandise store across from each other. Didn't try the restaurant/ bar this round, but maybe next time. Looked good. Check it out. Despite the increasing cost of emission to this place, it's quite a museum to check out. Whether you like motorcycles or not, the exhibits and history of this motorcycle manufacturer are interesting and a large part of American history and culture. I found the Hollywood section most attractive with galleries of bikes from various classic American films such as T2 and Easy Rider. You can get a tour if you want but I found it more enjoyable walking around and exploring myself. The models and galleries contain ton information and background behind the makings of the bikes which provide a nice history lesson. Not to mention there's a gift shop and restaurant attached, both worth exploring just for the merchandise and atmosphere themselves. Definitely a cool place to check out when you're in Milwaukee.
