Great price for hearty wholesome meal! There's only like 2-3 types of curries but they also have you covered for rice, beverage and two types of desserts. Make sure to ask for the vegan option though since usually not everything is vegan and they have the vegan option stored away. The only complaint is that the people didn't seem friendly like most Hare Krishna temples. But def support them for giving back to the community with affordable plant based meals.

I'm so happy to see that Hare Krishna is still serving wholesome lunches after all these years. The first was was during my undergrad years in the early 2000s. Came back onto campus for a visit on a random Wednesday and stumbled upon them again! Food was just as delicious, plenty, and nutritious. It was rice with two kinds of curry like dishes filled with veggies such as cauliflower, peas, carrots, potatoes, and the blueberry masa dessert. It also comes with a drink and a small piece of peanut butter bar. All that for only $5 and you serve it yourself. I was in heaven all over again. The Food Coop place it a cool place to hang out, buy snacks and eat it there. Come Wednesdays, bring cash and an empty stomach!

There's not much to say that hasn't been said - cheap vegan and vegetarian "Indian" food for $5 a plate that you can pile on to your heart's desire (cash only). It's the best valued eatery on campus that comes once a week (on Wednesdays) from 11-3 pm in front of the Food Co-op store in the old Student Center area. The entrees include 2 dishes of vegetable bhajis, or variations of the classic saag, dal, baingan, or chana, served with rice. The entrees change from week to week. You also get a dessert made from masa spackled with fruits, and an energy ball made with coconut, nuts, and dates, plus a hibiscus tea drink to finish off your meal. It's not amazingly flavorful or fancy, but everything tastes good and homey for what it is - stewed veggies. It isn't seasoned like traditional Indian food at all and is probably the most mild, Americanized take I've ever had, so I'm not sure one can even call it Indian. Haha. The food is kind of on the heavy side, especially since it's all-you-can-stack on your plate. You'll most likely be stuffing your face until you're disgustingly full, so bathroom breaks and food coma are highly possible side effects. There's usually always one entree that's vegan, and there are two variations of the energy ball (one vegetarian, one vegan) that you can ask for. The sweet masa everyone raves about is vegan. My favorite items include their dessert and darker hued dishes with eggplant (baingan), as its usually more savory than the paler dishes. I actually like that their food is not too salty nor too oily like some of the more traditional Indian dishes, as it doesn't sit well with me most of the time, despite it being delicious. My stomach can handle various spices, but not Indian... Not sure why X( Overall, it's a great little gem that as a vegan, I couldn't be happier about. This place has saved a lot of students (including myself) from cooking, since you can bring a tupperware (any size, but be realistic obviously) to fill up for $7. I guess I still had a lot to say, afterall.

I heard of Hare Krishna at the beginning of the year but only got to try it for the first time about two months ago... and ever since then, I've eaten here almost every Wednesday for lunch. (See photos!) For $5, you can stack your plate as much as you want, and it's definitely really worth it! Super filling, healthy (yay for all those veggies!) and quite yummy too. There's always plain rice, two curry-like entrees (usually a creamier curry and a thinner one), dessert (some type of corn polenta thing, with different kinds of fruit mixed in), and a drink (so far I've had a refreshing ginger lemonade and a chamomile drink). Not exactly sure what any of them are called, but they're all quite delicious! Usually not spicy at all, though the thinner curries occasionally have a little kick to them. I LOVE the dessert - I could probably get just a plate of that and be perfectly happy. Usually they repeat the same few entrees over and over, occasionally switching to a different one. After eating it about 6 weeks in a row, I had to take a break... Too repetitive. But I'll definitely be eating here many more times during the next three years! Lots of food for your money. For those who don't have dining dollars, Hare Krishna is the place to eat on Wednesdays! Also, you can stack a plate to the max and then share it with a friend if you don't have a huge appetite; you'll still be satisfied at the end! (I do have a huge appetite and by the time I finish the plate, I'm bloated... Should probably split it the future to save my poor stomach the strain!) Cash only.

I always see this and forget to bring cash. Today I remembered and ate here for the first time. I wasn't sure what to expect and if I would enjoy it, but the food is very tasty, filling and fresh.

I'm certain we've all heard the rumors of the all-you-can-eat indian buffet by the old student center and smelled the intoxicating aromas of the exquisitely spiced dal and the fragrant long grain rice. But many of us find ourselves too busy to indulge in the massive quantities of vegetarian food on Wednesday lunches. But not my homies and I. We make sure we can get krishna every week. We plan our schedules around krishna. We debate the which dish is the best they have and whats the best plate-food complex that will invoke the highest yield of food per plate. We take our time carefully layer rice and curry in a precise formation, so much so that we often hear haters complaining behind us. We load up so hard that our 6 inch high towers of indian food always spill off the side when we walk over to our table. We dont mess around with our krishna and I guess you could call us veterans at this game. The best dal is the yellow one followed by the orange one with the red eye beans or chickpeas. They also have a dessert type dish made with some of kind of corn is also delicious. It is made with different flavors - peanuts, mango, blueberry (mah fave).

I LOVE HARE KRISHNA! I can't believe I never tried this place until my senior year at UCSD. I would always walk by this place and see a long line coming from the little cart but never thought to try it.... until now. Basically, Hare Krishna is a monastery that practices clean and natural eating so... lots of vegetarian food. I love it when they have curry pasta, spinach dishes, and tofu. I think my least favorite dish is the tomatoe-base chickpea dish. As everyone else has said, it's ALL YOU CAN PILE ON YOUR DISH for $5! So freaking cheap. I totally recommend that if you're a UCSD student, you try this place out at least once. It's so good!

Such an amazing plate of food!!!!! Filling, nutritious, and absolutely delicious plate for such an affordable price. My best friend and I enjoyed a hearty plate of chickpea and broccoli curry dishes with some blueberry mash dessert. Try it out, it's only $5 and absolutely worth it!!

Hare Krishna is the reason I look forward to Wednesdays. This little vegetarian food cart is set up every Wednesday from around 11:30 - 2:30 in the old student center. I believe that the cart is managed by people from the Hare Krishna temple, who cook and bring the food to UCSD. There will always be two entrees (usually one creamier curry and one tomato-based one), rice, drink, and semolina pudding dessert. The food varies a little every week in terms of the vegetables that they put in the curry, ie. broccoli, spinach, beans, occasionally tofu, etc. and the flavor of the dessert. Some people have claimed the food is bland, but I personally appreciate how it feels like a home-cooked meal in that it's warming, satisfying, and I don't feel gross after eating it. The best part is the price: you pay $5 and they give you a plate that you can pile as high as you'd like with food. I walk away with my plate stacked until it is literally dripping on the sides (no shame) and easily make two meals from one stacked plate. Other payment options are: $6 for bring-your-own Tupperware, $8 for AYCE + take-home. The fact that it's vegetarian, packed with protein-rich vegetables, and freshly made every Wednesday, makes it feel like a pretty wholesome meal overall compared to the abundance of greasy and salty fast-food options on campus. As a commuter not on a dining plan, Hare Krishna is an amazing and delicious deal.

I don't know much about Indian food as I've never tried it before Hare Krishna, but the food was delicious! Three entrees, dessert and some type of juice. Apparently the menu is different every week, but the day I went there was a tomato-sauced vegetable dish, something with chick peas, and another dish of orange pumpkin-esque food. I didn't know what exactly I was eating, but everything was nevertheless amazing. Everything is vegetarian, too (: Fit as much food on your plate as you please. All that for $4. How friendly for a college student's wallet! Thank you for making Wednesdays a little more exciting.

At UCSD, you get tired of the food really quickly. I no longer live on campus, and prefer not to eat at the dining halls. I hardly eat at any of the restaurants at the Price Center besides Santorini and the Sunshine Market for snacks. After awhile, everything gets really repetitive with the exception of the Farmer's Market on Tuesdays. I started looking at foods outside of the Price Center, stumbled across this little gem at the old Student Center. I always passed by it, but never really took the time to look at it. They serve Indian food and it's vegetarian. The line was pretty long today, a definitive sign their food is good. It's cash only! There is BoA, Wells Fargo, and Chase ATM near by. I paid $5. You grab a plate and stuff as much as you can on it. They offer two types of curry: a thicker, yellow vegetable one and a thinner, red beans and vegetables one. They also offer white rice and some sweet, cinnamon-y dessert. It was definitely worth my $5 and I was really satisfied. I think everybody should definitely check this place out!

I kinda wish there were more but am glad there wasn't because I don't know if I could control myself (ha)! We ordered online and had it delivered. The wait was a little long but that is to be expected at prime dinner time. I can't speak to the service other than how they prepared and packaged the food, both of which were good. The food arrived still hot and ready to go. Overall, I think it was well priced, worth the wait and delicious. We will likely order from here again!

We wanted to grab a good meal before entering the zoo and found Dosa Studio on Google -- it was a small detour and absolutely worth it. We went on a Saturday and they had a brunch buffet from 11 AM to 2 PM. We were pleasantly surprised by the wide spread of dishes covering both North and South Indian cuisine, along with tea included. The pricing was very reasonable -- if I remember correctly, it was around $10 for kids under 12 and about $18 for adults, which felt like a great deal for the variety offered. We were a bit rushed that day and had to eat quickly and leave. On our way out, we noticed they had just started a samosa chaat counter that was part of the buffet -- which we unfortunately missed! We ended up coming back the next day to enjoy the buffet in a more relaxed way. This time, we finally got to try the samosa chaat we had missed the day before, and it did not disappoint. Since San Diego was new to us, this restaurant became our go-to spot for the weekend -- and it happened to be the last day of the brunch buffet, so we made sure to stop by again. Hopefully they still offer this brunch buffet. If they do, it's definitely a great value for the price. Even if a few dishes aren't to your taste, there's enough variety to fill up on what you love.

I also wasn't sure why the papdi was broken into tiny pieces--it felt like I got the crumbs from the bottom of the bag rather than whole pieces. I could barely taste the chickpeas or potatoes underneath all the sauces, which ended up overpowering the dish without adding much flavor.
