It's a small place but such a gem!…read more There were so many things they do well here. The dirty martini was actually dirty! The service was top tier. Everyone was super friendly and we received our orders in a timely manner. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the prices. $20 for one piece fish dinner and a side seems like a lot to me! The wedge salad was HUGE and cost $10 to upgrade. It tasted great but could've used more dressing. The bread is a MUST order. For $5 you can't go wrong. If you add shrimp to your meal be warned they are GINORMOUS haha but tasty also. Overall, the vibes of the place were so great. I would definitely eat here again, and I would DEFINITELY get another dirty martini!! Also, stop by next door if you have time before or after your reservation. Awesome bar with welcoming people.

Lou's Riverview…read more.. Let me take you back 30 yrs when you could go to Lou's Riverview and get the best Swampwater in Wisconsin or anywhere in the world for that matter. Now Lou's wasn't my normal stopping ground back then. The Sunken Sub was. You would see me at the "Srub" Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. But on a Monday Tuesday or Wednesday you might just have spotted me there having a Swampwater. It was a little bit too old of a Crowd for me back then. Older like 25 or 30 yrs old. Fast forward to the Present day... Well I was telling my Gal all about my wild and crazy youth, when I mentioned Swampwaters. We were making a trip down to my Dads and made plans to see if we could find the Nectar of the Gods known as Swampwater. I found a few old friends to make the road trip with us and it's like we are back in 1983. Sitting at Lou's drinking a Swampwater out of Mason Jar. I do like Lou's, Good music on the juke box, a game of pool, a few Swampwaters and a friendly bartender/owner. 4 out 5 Stars

Small-town bowling alley to the max! We visited the wonderfully named Rock and Bowl Hall of Lane…read morefor my BF's nephew's birthday party. The alley opened early and gave him and his classmates run of the place. The building is surprisingly large inside. The vibe is retro, not out of a conscious effort but because it's been kept up with what is likely its original furnishings. I loved the green chairs for lane-side seating and the white and beige checkered lockers. There's a large bar area with games and your typical bar/bowling alley menu; all items are affordable and around $5. Behind the bar is a large smoking porch open to those 21+. In the front of the building is a banquet room with a silk-flower-covered wall on one end and a front porch facade at the either. There's ample floor space and several 8-foot rectangular tables; the kids had a great time running around and helping themselves to a buffet that the parents were allowed to bring in (hot dogs, sloppy joes, cake, hot chocolate, etc.). The owners/managers were super chill; they hung out at the bar to serve anyone who wanted drinks and generally just seemed to have a good time watching the kiddos have the times of their lives - no complaints when they accidentally stepped onto the lanes or decided to climb on the ball return. They let the parents do their jobs and had a good grasp of the behavior that comes from a group of six-year-olds hopped up on sugar and bumper bowling. Prices for regular bowling are reasonable and they've got a slew of other activities to keep the people of Jefferson entertained from karaoke to dart leagues. It's a bit of a drive from Madison, but I'll keep it in mind for some pre- or post-drive-in movie fun!

I've been trying to make Fort 88 my Friday night fish fry spot because their clam chowder is…read moreconsistently excellent. Unfortunately, the fish fry itself has been very hit-or-miss, and this visit was definitely a miss. The biggest disappointment wasn't even the food..., it was the service. It took quite a while before anyone took my order. Once I ordered, the wait for the food was longer than expected, and the clam chowder didn't arrive until the rest of the meal came out, defeating the purpose of having soup as a starter. The fish was just okay, but the fries were cold. To make matters worse, I was given an empty ketchup bottle. I asked for another ketchup and a refill on my drink, but neither ever arrived. I sat there waiting, and eventually gave up and just asked for the check. What bothered me most was the complete lack of follow-up. There was no acknowledgment that my drink and ketchup were forgotten, even though it was obvious I hadn't eaten the cold fries. No apology. No "I'll be right back." Not even a simple "Thanks for coming in." At nearly $29 for a fish fry, cold fries, and a bowl of soup, I expected a much better experience. Great service can make up for an average meal, but poor service only highlights the shortcomings. Sadly, it's time to start looking for a new Friday night fish fry spot.
