I had to wait an additional 10 minutes. I also expected to be able to go to the "pickup window" instead of having to wait at the "order window" behind the line of people who had not ordered their food yet. I was told I had to wait at the order window because they only had one credit card machine and it was at that window. I felt that defeated the purpose of calling my order in ahead of time. By the time I received my food, it was Luke warm. My burger was swimming in mayo and mustard and lacked the extra pickles that were requested. The beef was of lesser quality than what I would purchase and cook at home. I had also ordered a taco salad which was extremely bland. It was a few chips, some bland taco meat, a ton of lettuce, minimal cheese and minimal tomatoes. It had a small amount of sour cream but no salsa. Overall disappointing. Prices were too high for lack of quality and service.

But be advised that it's cash only! This is one of the most amazing burger places I have ever visited. The staff is attentive and friendly; you can not go wrong with this family-owned business. Excellent burgers made from scratch. It has been in business since 1934, so it must be doing it right. This place is regularly voted the best burger in the Bluegrass State and lives up to the hype. A perfect slice of Americana, walking into this place feels like going back in time. I had the Double Hamburger, and my wife had the Double Cheeseburger. We also had French Fries and Onion Rings. The onion rings are huge, and the breading does not fall off when you take a bite. If you are ever in Hodgenville, you must try this place!

The little white building on 4th Street still wears its vintage RC Cola sign like a badge of honor, and the moment you push open the door, that familiar sizzle of burgers hitting the oil hits you like a hug from your childhood. We slid onto the stools at the old horseshoe counter, the same one I remember from when I was a kid, and watched the magic happen right in front of us. Patties kissed with bread for that impossibly soft center, fried in the shallow oil until the edges turned perfectly crisp and golden. My cheeseburger arrived "unsquoze," glistening and glorious, layered with that signature tangy sauce, crisp pickles, and onions that somehow make everything sing. One bite and I was twelve years old again--only this time I got to share it with my own family. The new owners have kept every bit of what made Dovie's legendary. Same perfect burgers. Same simple, soulful menu. Same feeling that you're exactly where you're supposed to be. My kids devoured theirs with the same wide-eyed joy I used to have, and we left with full hearts and fingers still a little greasy in the best possible way. Dovie's isn't just a burger joint. It's a living piece of Tompkinsville history that still tastes like home. If you've never been, go. If you grew up on these burgers, go back. It's every bit as wonderful as you remember.

The home fries had no seasoning at all. The hush puppies were the best part of the meal. They were seasoned well, cooked perfectly. They are definitely worth a return on their own. I will say they do have a dessert display that looks fantastic and probably the only place in the area that has such a selection. Will need to try those next time. I will also say that the place was full when there and most got burgers and country fried steak. They all seem very pleased with their meals.
