This Hard Rock Cafè is the largest Hard Rock in London and features the largest "Rock Shop" in the world, you enter through the bustling Piccadilly Circus into the Rock Shop, you can then check-in with the attendant who radios through downstairs to get everything ready for you, by the time you make it down the steps/lift.
This place is huge, I did find the interior to be a little dark, plus with it being in a basement the phone signal is non-existent, luckily they had decent wifi which meant I could stay connected.
I was told by a manager this is a "Flagship" store, while the menu is mostly the same, there were some slight differences in a few menu items, the Long Island Iced Tea and salmon were notably different compared to other HRC stores.
I was disappointed with the lack of adaptations that could be made to the menu, I was originally unable to order the BBQ Chicken from the Christmas menu, I tried to explain I only wanted one course and did not want to pay for a starter/main, they proceeded to tell me it could only be sold as a two meal thing, I didn't think this made any sense other than the restaurant just wanting to squeeze even more money out of you. I am not sure if the staff were playing dumb on purpose, but they didn't seem to understand ordering just one course.
They also wouldn't let me order a half rack of ribs, with a small bbq chicken breast, which is something on offer on other stores, they do have the items on the menu separately but wouldn't combine it into a dish, again this was annoying.
The prices here are pretty expensive, but that's a mix of central London and a themed restaurant, so you pretty much have to expect it. They also do charge a 12.5% service charge, this is something I hate so much in a restaurant. If someone wants to tip; let them. Don't add money onto already overpriced menu items.
For my main, I ordered the BBQ chicken, I did enjoy this as the entire dish was seasoned well, including the green beans which were made more flavoursome with what tasted like garlic, the chicken was good quality and the BBQ sauce added a lot of flavour and the chips were seasoned well.
I came here with my friend, she ordered the salmon, she complimented this: "Although a little spicy, the salmon was cooked perfectly and presented well. I was lucky enough to try some of this salmon, as it is also gluten-free, and again it was hot, cooked well, I wasn't too keen on the sweet chilli sauce and would have preferred BBQ (again, what they use in other restaurants) though.
For a dessert, I ordered a brownie with the set menu, I do find the set menu was overpriced at £29.95, especially considering the brownie was a much smaller portion than the brownie off the regular menu. That being said, I enjoyed that too, the brownie was hot and came with a whipping cream, which added creaminess, all the better for being gluten-free too.
My Long Island Iced Tea was £14.10 with a free collectable glass, I enjoyed this too, it was layered and tasted as good as it looked, it has a nice sweetness which went well with the strong alcohol. If I had to nitpick, I would have preferred the lemon slice on a stick (again, similar to other locations).
I was originally told, I could redeem my birthday offer (Buy one main get one free) with the set menu, and I was told this would knock off the price of my friend's cheaper salmon, however, this was later proven to be untrue. The manager kept her work and told me she will redeem the offer just this once as a goodwill gesture, she let me keep my redeemable birthday offer for a future visit. While I feel this was kind, I would have been angry having ordered my food knowing with them promising I could use this offer, only to be told they made a mistake after eating, so this was the least they could do. Still, fair play for making it right, Hard Rock!
4* - I did enjoy my food, I did have a couple of problems here and there, I still prefer their Great Cumberland Place location, but this isn't a bad alternative at all, especially as they did get me a table without a problem, even though I arrived more than 90 minutes early.
