This was a very enjoyable excursion for us to spend with friends while watching a few dolphins, gain some bits of history, and sunset ... if the weather would have cooperated more (too many clouds) - but that just means we'll have to go back and we look forward to the next opportunity. The added bonus was being able to BYOB and a First Mate offering to take your pictures for you, so you don't have to take them as a selfie. :0) Captain was very friendly and good natured and seemed to know some good area history. 5 stars for Captain Bret!!!! I called the captain with about 3 days notice saying that I would be in Charleston and wanting to propose to my girlfriend. He was very accommodating and even picked us up on his boat right at our hotel in the marina. I was nervous as hell and he was a tremendous reason why the whole event went so smoothly. We did a private charter which was very reasonably priced, so much in fact that all my friends and family were shocked at the price. I ended up proposing on an island in the Charleston Harbor and Captain Bret literally came on the island and recorded the entire thing. He also helped me out and got me a bottle of champagne on request and did not overcharge me a penny over what it cost him. There are so many places out there that could have taken advantage of me and my now fiancé on this special event and Harborview Charters just does extremely good business. Dolphin watching tour??!!! Where do I sign up?? I purchased the groupon for the dolphin tour and after the purchase you have to call to reserve a spot. I would recommend buying the groupon several weeks in advance to ensure that your desired time would be available. The take off spot was from Shem Creek park (in Mt Pleasant) which was only less than 10 mins from where we staying which worked out great! Please bring Groupon Voucher and all the necessary documents! They are very strict on this.. The boat can accommodate up to 8 passengers and we had all 8 spots filled. Our navigator was Captain Bret and is on life guard reserves and has been doing the dolphin tour for several years now. He provided free waters in his cooler which was nice of him and there are also life vests which are not mandatory to wear. We actually had a difficult time finding dolphins at first... probably for the first 35 minutes (tour is 1.5 hours long). He took us to several surrounding islands including Sullivans island and gave us a brief history lesson on all the big landmarks. Unfortunately, this is never a guarantee of spotting some dolphins/or how many since this is open waters. We saw some but not as much as I would hope. There were a few that came up close to the boat, within 5 feet but didn't stay for too long. Spotting the dolphins were sporadic but we did get close to a few. If you're in the area visiting I would check this place out because even if you don't get to see as many dolphin as you would like, you get to see the bridges/landmarks from views you never would if you drove. read more

We LOVED our sunset tour. While it isn't necessarily the place to go if you want to learn a lot of history, the guide did give a few insights along the way. Myself and 4 of my friends went out on a Sunset BYOB cruise on 8/10/19 a Friday evening. This was a very laid back atmosphere, not a party vibe, however you can definitely find other charters if thats what you're looking for. We brought along aluminum can beverages however other passengers brought bottles of wine.We left promptly at 6:45 and returned around 8:15. Visited my son in Charleston in July & needed to do something other than the beach in the 90 degree humid weather--this was it! We chose the 10am charter. The parking directions were precise--parked at the hotel and walked down to the teal boat on the right. We arrived at 9:35a. The captain pulled the fully-fueled boat in at the same time. He placed the steps down for us to embark and took our name onto his electronic device. We could sit anywhere we liked. Our boat was filled with everyone shortly before 9:55a so we were able to leave the dock early, at 9:53a. Captain had an assistant on board (female) who even snapped pictures of each couple/family during the tour, which was so wonderful. She was willing to take pictures for anyone who asked at any time. Captain described scenery and during the water tour stopped the boat any time there was a dolphin spotting. He was patient and careful to respect the marine life and very knowledgeable of guests' who had Charleston-esque questions, including me. The weather was perfect on our day and we docked right before noon. We put cash in the tip box based on the crew's willingness to take photos, the Cap's excellent handling of the boat and his knowledge of Charleston. Weekday Sunset Cruise - perfect for our last night in Charleston We had such a memorable trip with Captain Bret and his co-pilot. Had a great time yesterday on the sunset tour with my wife. The captain and crew seemed very knowledgeable and certainly were very accommodating. We had originally booked the dolphin tour for Sunday, but received a call that our Groupon was not good for the weekend. Instead they upgraded us to the sunset cruise on Friday. The captain went over some local history and first mate offered to take pictures of us. Two tips: if you make an appointment for something, arrive a few minutes early. My husband and I took our parents on the shelling cruise. It was perfect! Captain Bret walked the island with us and explained different items we found and then turned us loose to explore on our own.
