We met our Charleston City Tour at the Charleston Visitor Center. Our driver-guide was Ron "Smitty" Smith, a native South Carolinian. He was terrific! His knowledge of Charleston and its history is outstanding, and he clearly enjoys sharing it. He also shared recommendations for places to eat and shop. We had 10 people on our tour in an intermediate-sized tour bus. Smitty made frequent stops and turned around to give detailed descriptions of what we were seeing. We stopped and got out twice, including at the Battery. Here, Smitty discussed the harbor and the roll its fortifications played in Charleston history. The driver was very informative, and the tour was decent. But they were the most expensive tour in the city, and they shorted us on the time that the tour was supposed to last. If the tour is supposed to be three hours, make it last three hours. read more

We went on this van tour while in Charleston, they pick you up at the visitors center. The vehicle was small, definitely 20 people or less were on it with us. Our tour was full, so you may want to consider booking ahead of time like we did. This is not located far from the Charleston Museum, so that would be a great activity to combine with the tour. I'd budget 2-3 hours for the museum. I had not been here in 25 years, when I was a kid, so I really enjoyed learning more about this historic spot. We opted to book this on a rainy day, so this turned out to be the PERFECT activity for us! This would also be a great activity for anyone that has mobility issues! Our guide was great and gave us a ton of information on this city, I think he had been a history teacher. I think the tour was supposed to be a bit longer, but ours only lasted 60-70 minutes. No bathroom breaks on this tour, so be sure to use the restroom in the visitor center. read more

The whole tour was great. First the tour guide Rodney is awesome. He picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off. The tour was great. He had a sense of humor and made the tour do much fun. I have traveled the world and hands down this was one of the best tours I have been on. Pineapple tours is incredible. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging. His ability to showcase the historical aspects, but also tell the stories like you are sitting right in the middle of it is a skill set few tour guides have. This is my favorite tour company in town! We have done 3 tours with them now, and they are our go-to place when we have company visiting from out of town. 1. The history tour took us on a trip around the peninsula. Our guide was Ben and he was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the city. He's a great story teller and makes history enjoyable for everyone. The bus was impeccably clean, well air conditioned (a most in the summer in Charleston) and cold bottled water was available for free! Highly recommend. 2. The tour of Middleton Place started downtown and took us out to Middleton Place. It was a great half-day trip and included a delicious southern style lunch. We watched a narrative history of Middleton during the 30-40 minute trip to the plantation which helped inform our visit before we arrived. Once at Middleton Planation we received a curated tour schedule, map of Middleton's and headed to the restaurant to enjoy lunch. After, we took a guided tour of the house and a self guided tour of the grounds, peripheral buildings and gardens. After our tour was over, we hopped back on the air conditioned bus where ice cold water was available to help cool us down. Ben even offered a phone charger so we could recharge on the ride back downtown. 5-stars!! 3. The comedy bus tour was a great evening event. We met at Hom restaurant on King Street for a drink and got to meet the comedian before we boarded the bus. There were about 12 of us on the bus and it was cool to relax, ride around the city, laugh, and enjoy a semi-private comedy show. Our comedian Trevor was engaging, funny, and entertaining. Middleton Place Tour & Lunch with Transportation from Charleston. Transportation, Middleton admission and a three-course lunch = well worth the money! Our driver was very friendly despite feeling under the weather. If we had to give any criticism, it was finding the bus! There were no signs, and we had to ask several people for directions to the bus once we arrived at the terminal. Finding it on the way home, however, was much easier as it was in a clearly designated spot. Middleton is stunning and you will get unparalleled photos. The grounds are very well manicured and the animals roam free. You're given a map at the beginning of the tour and you can follow the recommended path or go off on your own. The weather was very hot, but it still did not take away from the plantation's beauty. The lunch was also good, but all food options were VERY heavy considering all the walking. The tour of the historic house was enjoyable, but ran a bit long for our liking. All in all, we would highly recommend this tour. read more

Yesterday my husband and I took Pineapple Tour Groups tour to Middleton Place. The whole experience was seamless. The tour bus was at the Visitors Center and ready to receive us. It was very clean, seat belts were intentionally placed on each seat and our driver and guide, Wayne, was terrific. He did an informative chat as we got started and then started a terrific video about Middleton Place. It was nice to get details about where we were going and what we would be seeing before actually arriving. And, because Pineapple Tour Groups tour included a scheduled tour of the house and a set time to enjoy lunch we didn't have to buy anything extra or wait in line! So nice! If you want to see Middleton Place or experience a downtown Charleston tour by small bus or by foot Pineapple Tour Group is the way to go! I don't give 5 stars very often but Pineapple Tours deserves it. My husband and I are RVing full time so we are traveling on a tight budget. We don't usually spend money on tours but we thought Charleston might deserve an actual tour. We read the different reviews and decided a van tour was the best - we would get to see the most and the weather on Thanksgiving weekend was cool and misty. We were so fortunate to get the owner of the company, Ben, as our tour guide. He was simply amazing! His knowledge and passion for this city was evident at every stop. He brought tears to my eyes with his review of the Charleston church massacre. He handled racial issues superbly. I took several notes of people and events I want to learn more about. We had a great time on this city bus tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and humorous. It was a nice introduction to the city. However, for the price, I felt this was too short. It was advertised as a 90 minute tour, but we returned in 70 minutes. I prefer transparency when I book something and I like to know what I'm agreeing to will be honored. For our first visit to Charleston we opted to book a tour & selected a bus tour with Pineapple Tours. In this time of COVID we were happy to see a small van-type bus with a maximum capacity of 14. Benjamin was our driver & tour guide. Born & raised in Charleston, Benjamin was a wealth of information, weaving facts with fun stories in an entertaining manner. He was an enthusiastic teacher of all things Charleston. This tour showcases the primary sights of the city; Benjamin also provided suggestions for places to see as well as dining & other activities. TIPS: -- The tour departs just outside the Visitors Center. -- Consider using the restroom before you leave as there is no stopping. -- Parking is somewhat limited. We have a big truck, too tall for the nearby parking structure which only had a 6' high clearance. On nearby Mary Street (1 very short block north, on same side of Meeting Street as the Visitor Center) is a parking structure which can accommodate trucks & RV-type vehicles (small Class A & Class C vehicles, no bumper pulls etc). It's the first building on the left after turning onto Mary Street but isn't well marked. read more

Excellent tour group - they make it very easy and it is a very good value for what you pay. We used the tour group to go to Middleton Place and thought it well worth our money. We walked to the meeting place from our hotel and didn't have to worry about catching an Uber or Lyft. Our driver was friendly and offered water and umbrellas. He was also very prompt.
