We paid such a premium price for a frustrating experience: over promising and under delivering. From the timeline expectation (From start to finish approx 2 years) We had to reach out to the company consistently for updated timelines on the project.The company has also poor communication amongst each other, Which caused even further delays. We worked with James for a project manager. We appreciated his candor and usual responsiveness in the beginning. Although it wasn't uncommon for a whole month to go by with multiple unanswered emails. There was minor issues continuously, some of the major included: *The Design. Our designer was Bruno, who did a good enough job (we sent Father Nature a swim spa .pdf installation guide, so he could design around the specs) While his design was very nice, during the execution of it, modifications had to be made for functionality AND safety. We found their 3d computer rendering imaging pretty deceptive. The biggest issue here was a lot of confusion around clearance pertaining to the swim spa. (Although it was stated in the .pdf) *Our sales manager was Cameron. Concerning the cost proposal, We were shocked to spend tens of thousands more as not everything was included. While unforeseen circumstances happen, Cameron (who presented our proposal) was not detail orientated when it came to outlining what we will need to pay for to have the backyard that was proposed. Some example: Concrete base pad for the swim spa, Trenches dug, Gas line, Seating/bar area, Lighting package- some path lights were installed instead of uprights, There was Not ENOUGH lights proposed, as they did not measure it out-leaving the south side of our yard in the dark. Cameron did attempt to amend some of this pricing and adknowledged our frustration. He did add an additional 12 inches of fence for free (To mimic the 3d rendering image they presented) *Concrete work that the average eye would question and professionals would call embarrassing. Measurements that are off with an uneven result. Not smooth. *The work team was lead by Oscar, who we didn't have arising issues with. He is friendly, approachable and kept communication open while him and his team executed the project. There were days the work team was pulled away from our job to finish up other pending jobs, although I don't fault Oscar in that. *Our plants arrived earlier than the the work team were able to plant them-leaving myself to have to unexpectatily care for them. We also did have to utilize their plant replacement policy. We were initially told one year, but when we reached out, they said it was only a six month warranty. (Not ideal when these are planted fall, and some of these plants won't show until the following summer time.) A a few did not make it, including a cypress tree. We did get them replaced, but there was concern the tree didn't get enough water. (Did I mention FN did our irrigation???!) *May 2022 The irrigation was not connected. (Which I was informed by our typical irrigation company), I reached out to Father Nature to fix it. Luciano was one of the guys who did the original wiring in the fall but then we were introduced to Carl, who had to come back out to fix it in the spring. *The last pending item of our project was a seating area designed by Bruno. The concrete walls had holes in it and didn't have a "finished" look. Not being contractors ourselves, what we had to go by was that beautiful 3d rendering image plus the proposal stating: "smooth finish on exposed areas". Asking Cameron and Carrie about this type of look, they stated that the holes mean we have "strong walls" ...(Whew...I hope so?) and it was suggested we could have an epoxy paint on there for a more finished look. It was also suggested we do a "back splash". We decided to go forward with that. Father nature did some brief amending on this pricing, but it was still thousands more-another unexpected cost. *The seating area Benches, Originally discussed with Cameron, for the remainder of our project our contact person was James. James told us he took measurements and ordered brackets. Months later after radio silence, we were introduced to, yet another Father Nature employee, Chris Sheer, the president of the company. Chris' did measure. We found out brackets were never ordered. *Dec 2022 we sought out to requested a final bill from them as they went dark again. When the final invoice was sent, we noticed some of their service descriptions were not accurate with the work that was actually done. We settled on a price and on Jan 2023 we paid the final bill. We do get a lot of compliments on our yard. It has a lot of very beautiful features but we would not have taken this bumpy journey again with this company.

Three other popular competitors in West Seattle either charged for an on-site estimate and design or wouldn't even take on a project under a certain amount (and how would those other companies even know what our budget was since they wouldn't come for the site visit?). We were about to sign on with another company when we came across Tierra Landscape and Walter came to do a free site visit and quickly gave us an extremely reasonable estimate. He was even able to schedule us very quickly. Walter collaborated with us on our landscaping goals (improving our lawn and walkway grading, removing and re-sodding our entire lawn, installing a brand new paver walkway and stairway, removing a tree stump, reconfiguring a boulder wall, and building a retaining wall) and knew exactly which materials would fit our needs. He even came up with a solution for lowering and covering a sewer cleanout that stuck out in the middle of our lawn, and routed a gutter under the walkway so it wouldn't keep us awake with the dripping. Throughout the whole project, he was kind, understanding, professional, punctual, and was easy to collaborate with when it came to discussing possible options and determining methods that would combine our needs with his knowledge of best practices. Walter and his crew completed a beautiful, functional, and safe front yard for our young children. I needed a curtain drain put in and the land graded because my first story would flood during heavy rain. The drain had to be dug by hand in clay soil (no heavy machinery) because the area that flooded was above my septic tank. They had a huge team out, on time, and on the days they said they'd be out. They were professional and communicative during the whole project. It's been a few years now with some very bad storms and that curtain drain has never missed a beat. It works hard year round and I have never had standing water in that area again. I would love to someday hire this company again.

Background - After growing very tired of an awful looking front yard at our previous home in Silverdale, we finally decided to hire a professional landscaper as my vision required equipment to handle the large granite boulders destined to be the focal point of the yard. After a short consultation Derek presented us with a wonderful design and we quickly gave him the green light. Within a week of starting work he was finished and boy did it pop! Compliments abounded from friends, neighbors, and relatives. We liked his work so much that two years or so later we hired him again, to do the back yard this time, complete with a water feature, large flagstone patio/walkways, and yes, more boulders! During the consultation and after learning I wanted a waterfall of sorts incorporated into the design to surprise my wife, he got absolutely giddy after seeing the perfect place. He walked up the short incline and pointing to the ground stated, "this is where the water will come out like a spring", then split into 2 separate and smaller falls/rapids wrapping around a small island of evergreen trees, and finally collecting in a large deep pool at the bottom where the recirculating pump would be located. He was so "stoked"! This project also turned out perfect and was so complimentary to the backyard. Photos of both yards are attached. So last year we decided to move to a new location where the front yard again needed some "TLC", i.e. new landscaping. I called Derek to see if he was interested and within a week or so he came for the consultation and then subsequent to that came out yet again to spend a few hours on site developing the landscape plan. Work on the 3rd project took 2 weeks to complete and a few photos are also attached. It is almost winter and so we will wait until he Spring to add plants, so it looks a little naked right now. It therefore goes without saying that Derek and his crew are top notch, professional, and most importantly, can be trusted as other Yelp reviews have stated. Regarding the work itself, the crew are very careful to position important landscape elements for maximum impact and are always interested in home owner input. If you don't care for the way something is looking, they will work with you to correct the problem. They are always careful to cleanup once everything was done and I cannot emphasize too much how much we again enjoyed working with Derek and his crew. Otherwise, why would we have used Randles Landscape & Design on 3 major projects?

They sent unskilled labor to our house who began tearing up our yard in a rather random manner. One of their labourers insisted on parking his dilapidated truck in our driveway that was leaking oil everywhere. I confronted him and he apologized, but parked in the exact same spot the next day and leaked more oil. He was too lazy to walk up the driveway. They run an amateur operation. Ariel runs the construction operation and Laura translates as he speaks little to no English making communication difficult. He rarely visited the site as they (admittedly) are overbooked and can't handle the work that they have taken on. The final straw was when I came home to a guy digging a crooked trench through our existing landscaping where we wanted a retaining wall (it wasn't even straight, he was killing plants we wanted to keep, and it was in a random location). There were no measurements, plumb lines, or any delineation markers. The guy was just swinging a pick axe. I called a planning meeting and Laura came over with a drawing she had oddly plastized with no dimensions on it that looked like a child drew it. Yes, it was in crayon! We asked for a refund and they refused. Our yard is destroyed and for that we had the privilege of being taken for our $9200.00 deposit. BEWARE!

Some even directly turned us down. Ariel and Laura produced a promising plan and a quote which we were happy with. We transformed a steep barren slope into flowerbeds with smart irrigation. They brought a brochure and samples so that we can select the materials that we like. During the job The crew came on time everyday. They carried their own mobile toilet so that they didn't need to borrow ours. Laura was very responsive on phone and text. They come regularly every a few days, but consulted us when there were decisions to make. We asked for additional paving during the job. They managed to incorporate that in the schedule. I could not communicate with the workers directly due to language. I didn't find that a problem. They leveled everything, which my previous landscaper never did! After the job They power washed everything and laid grass and seeds for the turf impacted by the job. Their job comes with a 10-year warranty. Laura said the warranty came with the materials and they find no reason not to pass to the customers. I really appreciate that but I haven't used it yet. We decide to work with them again for another project once I have the money.
