Dock~ (There's A Walk Path & Metal Benches Along The Water)

Right where Mamaroneck Ave. ends and you can't get any further- is Harbor Island Park in the Village of Mamaroneck. Based on us driving past the unattended entrance kiosk, seems like Harbor Island is a free-for-all and opened off season. You can't miss the water because Harbor Island opens up with the boat dock smack dab in the middle where Mamaroneck Ave and Boston Post Rd. meet. If you do boating, call ahead to make sure they have temporary/long term docks, fuel or other services you might need. Road signs are visible and straightforward- so getting in and around the park itself is easy. There's also a small Beach area towards the back. Unlike the park being open year-round, the beach area however, is obviously closed (and gated) during off season. Our plan was to get seafood dinner from Harbour Fish, pack up and eat at home. But weather was mild on a Friday evening and was a shame to let the day go to waste. Got our dinner, parked the car and sat facing the water. Took a stroll afterwards then heard some music down yonder. Sure enough, there was Music and folks doing Zumba in the Pavilion! I thought that was cool! So it seems like you can rent out the pavilion for events and such. It was a nice waterfront experience. Not that hubby and I drink from public water fountains, but our mood went downhill and noticed a couple walking their dogs and heading towards the water fountain. Naive us- we're thinking the adults were heading for the fountain themselves- but they actually helped their dogs get on their hind legs to reach the fountain. And I totally get it, these idiots want to keep their dogs hydrated. But at that moment, hubby and I just felt grossed out. So please Management- the same way it's easy to navigate your Park, the Beach and the Dock with ALL your signs AND for the sake of cleanliness, please provide appropriate ADULT-ONLY signage for your Fountains.

On a warm summer day, this is the perfect place to go for a walk after a nice meal along Mammaroneck avenue. Four stars because it couldn't be easier to get to and the park is free. If you're coming from another town like me and don't have a car, just get off at the Metro North Mammaroneck stop and cross the street. You're right there on Mammaroneck avenue which has so many nice places to eat like great burgers at Smash Burger or fantastic pizza at Frankie and Fanuccis. Then right at the end of the avenue is the entrance to Harbor Island Park. I wish there was more seating although there is a very nice walkway that goes along the entire park with some park benches alongside. I also wish the beach was bigger. It's rather tight and packed with kids on the weekend plus $7 per adult to get in behind the fenced in sand. That's why I prefer this park for a nice walk after dinner. I hope to come for some of the Summer festivals at some point.

Great time. I took a trip up there to snap some photos from the Bronx. The trek there sucked. I ended up taking Boston Post/Main Street all the way up because 95 was back up. Parking was easy, especially for a Saturday afternoon. The views there are simply beautiful. Tons of privately owned boats docked there. There are large grassy areas that are open to everyone though the fields you might need permits for. There is also a a child's playground there which is great. Everyone there was nice and greeted me with smiles. There are a lot of parks that require fees or county residency, but this one require neither. Definitely an overall great experience with lots of photos to reflect upon. I will upload a few here.

There is a fee to park in the summer season. If you want to go to the beach there, it's an addition fee. This place is AMAZING for kids. The playground is so much fun. There is so much equipment for the kids to play on. The beach is a haven for toddlers. There is a splash pad on the beach. This is the place to be if you've got kids under 10.

There's so many great things about the playground located in the park. The play equipment is so inspired and has a nautical theme. And there's so many different kinds of play equipment to explore. It's even fun for adults. It's new, modern and innovative. It's worth taking a day trip out of NYC just to see this playground and visit downtown Mamaroneck. Walking the harbor is pleasant as well. Magical.

Ask the Community - Harbor Island Park

My family will be visiting New York the week of July 2nd. We are staying in the Bronx and wanting to find a beach. We would be visiting during the week not the weekend. How much is the parking fee? How much is the beach fee?

Orchard Beach in the Bronx is probably a better option. It's a much larger beach with City Island nearby.

There's an area for younger kids, and an area for older kids; and both sections have robust options. (That's not always the case!) There's also ample shade here. I cannot stress how delightful that is, especially in the summer. There's an area of musical instruments, which I've seen at a handful of other playgrounds, but, again, it's in pretty great shape here. The sand area is relatively clean. At least for now! It's also close to downtown in case you have any errands you need to do on your way.

There are musical instruments, swings and multiple structures to climbs, as well as a small sand park area. Many of the structurs have ages printed on them. I would suggest that parents definitely watch smaller kids on some of the structures so they don't hurt themselves. There's a structure with rolling pieces and I would definitely see a kid falling and hurting themselves or getting a finger pinched while moving across. The swingset has swings for different stages and abilities which I love. People form the community gave back to build this wonderful park and it's a great addition to the neighborhood. Be careful walking across the street. The multiple stop signs make drivers impatient and they speed up almost as if to scare you out of the way, despite rushing to another stop sign.

I know that many parks on the western side of Westchester County require a Westchester County Park Pass or proof of Westchester County Residence. There were no signs or anything that said anything of the sort so we parked up and played. This park is lovely. It is very well kept. It has a lovely playground which is right next to the basketball courts. The courts have 4 regulation height hoops as well as 2 shorter hoops, which my little one loved. There is adequate space there to kick around a soccer ball or even fly a kite (yep, we did both). There is a baseball field there as well. I would imagine that the baseball field and the open field space (maybe used for soccer) is used for organized sports such as little league during the spring and summer. There is also a nice trailway which does not have too much to see besides some nice houses (I'm sure the residents there are thrilled with having tons of people look at their property, then again it could make for some great advertising). Overall we had a great time and I will likely to be returning. The park had everything we wanted and was clean and quiet enough. Also...gives me an excuse to go to Half Time...

You can access the park either by the steps or a nicely paved pathway, if your knees aren't well enough for the climb or you have a stroller in tow. My family and I came here for the Fall Food Truck Festival and it was way more packed than I would have imagined. I really wanted to get here before it started so that we could get some choice eats before the crowds began to pile up but unfortunately, we arrived about 90 minutes after it began and the lines were already about an hour wait. IMO they had far too few trucks in attendance. When I last checked, over 20K people were interested in attending, via social media sites. My whole reason for coming was for the Cousins Maine Lobster food truck which was a little over an hour wait. Unfortunately, the food wasn't worth the trouble. I had their CT roll which was awesome. Hubby had their shrimp tacos and I tasted; they were good but on the sweet side. I also got their lobster tots which were ok and we both affef soups to our entrées. I got the lobster bisque which was way too sweet and I stole hubby's NE clam chowder which tasted good. I also brought home a whoopie pie and a couple of ginger ales. Whime I waited for my lobster fix, hubby waited on a 45-minute line for the Melt Mobile food truck. He got me a meatball melt which was great! He got himself the short rib melt which was even better. We also shared their cheesecake melt (cheesecake sandwiched between two slices of pound cake and grilled) which was divine! All in all, it was a great event and tons of people came out with their kids and their fur babies. They had live music and some kiddie attractions for entertainment. There was a bit of a walk from parking if you didn't get there early and the lines were seriously out of control but the Cousins food trucks (there were two) were very efficient in the way they organized their line (still over an hour wait). The Five Alarm Pizza Company, a goth-painted fire truck with a full equipped pizza oven built in it, even ran out of pizzas only 2 hours into the event. Next year, we're coming early and bringing chairs even though we were able to snag an empty bench at the kiddie playground.
