Unfortunately, as soon as we opened the door to the unit we were met by a bad smell. I attempted to make the best of it as it was late and we were tired after the flight in. As we walked in besides the very worn, old furniture, we found bugs on the old, nasty carpet in the living room area. We walked into the kitchen area and found more bugs on the worn out counter and also found mold in the old smelly refrigerator. We walked into the bedroom, past a rickety extra bed in the open area to find yet more bugs in the bed under the smelly wrinkled sheets. The bathroom fixtures were worn and dirty like all the appliances and fixtures throughout the unit. I called to complain and inform someone that we would not be staying but was only able to leave a message. I was never contacted by the staff to address the problem. I called RCI to complain and get a refund, which they were helpful and refunded my points and exchange cost. Unfortunately, I still ended up with unexpected hotel expenses for a week stay and did not get to enjoy the vacation I was expecting at a nice resort. I feel the Resort owners should pay for my unexpected expenses and RCI should inspect locations before placing them on their inventory for its members as I trust the location they offer would meet certain basic standards of safety, cleanliness and quality.

I travel for work and I've been to some bad places but this is up there in the department of offensive experiences in terms of modern conveniences. I don't want to sound dramatic but when I go to long term stay accommodation places there are certain expectation I uphold and one of them is a working functioning washer and dryer. When I found out the dryer was out of order I asked if there was another on premises. I was told no, I kind of debriefed her and asked if this was an extended stay hotel! She replied yes. Then I said why is it that you only have ONE washer and dryer on site for over 200 rooms? She did not know which means I have to NOW go OFFSITE and find a Laundromat and do it there. I was not happy. She apologized ( I wasn't rude but standoffish to the point I was driving home) To continue my drama... the rest of the evening goes like this. I Yelped the location of the laundromat, find out there is only one in the 10 mile area... I hurriedly zoom to the place & secured two washing machines then something tells me I need to check the change machine before I unpack. GASP... No change... I collect my stuff and head back to the car towards Walmart which should be able to accommodate. I get there, go in, head to the service desk. They do NOT give change... UGH! But the manager was nice enough to share with me that there was a car wash port next door and I could probably scrounge up some change there. Bingo! Brilliant! I thanked her and off I went. Got the change headed back to the Laundromat, unloaded my clothes put the change in only to find out that I forgot to pack my laundry pods. I just stood there, dumbfounded... I couldn't do anything but laugh... What is god trying to tell me??? I asked the fella next to me who's using the same detergent I do if I could get two swirls of detergent. He was happy to do so... Finally, two hours of this I head back to the hotel room. Put on the game and nodded off to sleep. Some days are just what they are silly and insane. Chalk it up to travelers miscues. And then move on! Lol

When we checked into the Veranda Inn, everything appeared clean. We all went to sleep until 5:30 am when my children called me to tell me that there were bugs all over their beds. This was in Room 126. I went and picked up one of the bugs to take to reception. They agreed that it was a bed bug and said Monday morning the regular desk person would give me a refund. She swore that in the year she'd been there they had never had an issue like that before. Based on the fact that the mattresses were in zippered bags and there were tiny bed bugs and big bed bugs I doubted that was true but I let it go. I went and gathered our things to inspect them and placed our luggage in trash bags. We left at 7:30 am unshowered and exhausted. I didn't cause a scene and left thinking they were going to handle things. Instead on Monday I had to call them at 2 to ask what was going on and the receptionist said that they weren't going to give me a refund since they weren't going to charge me a $500 fee for smoking in the room. A blatant lie and the cameras can show him going outside to smoke. He refuses to throw his cigarette butts on the ground and instead brought them inside to the trash can. This self service hotel which has been remade from offices and a Lions Club has five rooms - each decorated differently and perfectly. You enter the front door with a passcode and proceed up a wooden staircase to Grandmas room or The Bunkhouse (a rustic favorite) or the Country Room. There are no TVs here but wifi speed is good and strong. The property is under new management when I visited recently on my second stay- and they are helpful, eager to please and friendly in every way. The housekeeper even emailed me to see if there was anything I needed special in my room. They have a large saloon room outfitted with a full kitchen, pool table, leather sofas and a bar. There is plenty of good quality coffee and tea for your morning routine here. But if you wish to reheat some leftovers or your cup of morning joe-bring a coffee mug or a plate as there are only styrofoam cups or metal mugs here that won't go in the microwave. That being said everything else here is pretty much spot on just right! Beds are comfortable, rooms are spotless, spacious, fun and well thought out. I have stayed here twice- once in Grandmas room (which had a washer dryer ) and once in the Country Room. The rooms have ample closet space (more than I have at home). Some rooms have multiple beds and sitting rooms or foyers - all decorated in period Victorian or rustic style depending on which room you are in. Definitely make this a pit stop when in the northern hill country of Texas. Tip: the only breakfast place in St Jo is the Dairy Queen- so bring some breakfast items for yourself when you check in.

St Jo is a small Texas town almost 1.5 hours from Dallas and located in the country with beautiful Texas you "expect" to see. There are lakes for fishing, private hunting lands for hunters, wineries and quaint mom and pop restaurants and shops within St Jo and neighboring towns. What I also learned is that it is located in a heavily travelled bike route! It's a great place to stay the night. Texas Kings Hotel is located on the town square. There is a tattoo shop that just opened up next door to the hotel and the wife is adding a grab and go deli, which is going to be great for the hotel guests. I suggest getting out of the city to experience small town charm. We loved it and can't wait to see what the locals do in this small Texas town. Cant wait to stay again!

Beautiful woods and tiles, artifacts from the original grandeur, and of course, Crazy Water! We watched it be built, then moved out of Bridgeport and came to visit. We stayed here less than 3 years later to A/C units that don't work properly, towels with holes in them, sheets falling apart, and mold on the ceiling of the 1st floor room. The A/C units are not on when the rooms are not in use which causes the rooms to smell since there's no air circulation, plus causes the mold in the rooms due to the humidity, and just makes for an incredible uncomfortable and disgusting stay when nothing is on upon entering a room. We did ask to be moved away from the leaking AC unit. We spent maybe 20 minutes in the room when we realized the floor was very wet. The second room was only better because the AC unit didn't leak, but there was mold in the upper corner of the room where the above AC unit must have been placed and leaked thru the ceiling. We were given 2 body towels, both of which had huge holes in them, and the sheet on the bed had holes in it as well. We were fortunate to not stay in a room that had bed bugs as I see from other reviews. Absolutely disgusting and disgraceful place to stay. Save yourself the headache and book in Decatur.

When I finally was able to get my money back, they still had a horrible attitude, and when I followed up the next day associate told me "oh that shouldn't be happening because we have new mattresses and some of our rooms and they should be good now from the last time we had bedbugs" my far away from this place. I'm glad we never got in the bed and only switched clothes for the event noticed and left immediately.
