Old City Public House - Brooklyn French Dip, great au jus for the dipping

Tried Public House on a friend's recommendation and can't believe I never visited before…read more Although it's your standard American style pub restaurant if you're a fan of French Dip sandwiches this is the place for you. There's a good selection of FD sandwiches along with the usual burger, sandwich and wraps along with a decent selection of appetizers. The sampler appetizer included your standard apps: potato skins, mozzarella sticks, wings & onion rings with sauces was slightly overpriced at $22.50 but still good and could pass as a meal itself. The best choice was the French Dip sandwiches all cooked to perfection and well portioned served with French Fries. Callout to our server Jessica was outstanding. Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable with some excellent sandwich suggestions. Restaurant features a full bar area, dining area with table service and a section of the dining area that can be converted to a private room for special events. Overall a great little pub with attentive, friendly ostaff serving excellent French Dip sandwiches at reasonable prices.

I was looking for a sports bar that would play the Knicks game out East. I did a search on yelp and…read moreone of the results was this bar. When driving to it there was parking out front for their customers which was great. Walked inside and there's plenty of seating either at the bar or at their tables. I asked if they can play the knicks game and they changed two TV monitors. Which was very nice of them to do. Anyways, their menu was very extensive. It took me a bit to look through it. I decided to order the bone less wings, the French onion dip sandwich, and last but not least the cheesecake with raspberry sauce drizzled on top. The wings were delicious and it fiee me up even though it was just an appetizer.

If it wasnt for the convenience of the location being located next to the industrial area with…read moreeveryone in and out for work, this place would probably not be in business. Outdated, stingy with products and i have never been greeted once out of all the times i went there even when it's empty. It's the least of my worries bc I just want the food anyway, but its still important for running a successful business so I just think its strange. The least you can do to someone contributing to your business, is a simple hello. My last order was paying for a egg sandwich with one slice of meat that was cut in half to cover the bread lol. Cheap with product & unfriendly. Charge more if you need too, no need to sell sandwiches at that level. I pay $ to eat what I want, deliver that at LEAST. It is a shame bc they can do great things with this location and they run it bare minimum.

Don't have a disability or an emotional problem because she will belittle you if you don't place your order the way she'd like you to and don't speak up quite the way she likes. We ordered a French dip hero with dressing on the side, which they have posted in the board. I walked out with cold roast beef on a roll, no mozzarella. My kid ordered a fried chicken sandwich, with no Mayo with pickles. He has to list to her all the toppings like it's not on the board. Mistakes happen but customer service, nah!!! No excuses!!! Don't take your bad day out on me. Don't like your job?! Change professions. Rude and unbelievably nasty. Last time I was there it was okay, this time leaves no room for a third!! I had to wait in the car because I can't afford bail after the $39 bill for those sandwiches on a roll, / drinks, and 2 pastries!!!

This place would get a 3.5, but I'm rounding down for reasons I will say in the review…read more I started off by seeing this place by searching for fish and chips. Seeing they had a Wednesday special, I decided to put off my adventure from Roslyn to Ronkonkoma from Monday to Wednesday. I also found a bunch of things I was interested in to pad my experience and make the drive worth it. The waitress came quickly, got our drink orders, took a few minutes, and we started our order. I started off by getting the Fire Island Fries, the Flanagan's Nachos minus Jalapenos and Chipotle Ranch, sub the chicken in, the Fish and Chips special with additional pay for French Onion Soup and Curry sauce, and my friend got the Penne Alla Vodka add chicken. I asked how the Mozzarella sticks were and she said they were very popular so I got those as well. We'll start with my addition. The mozzarella sticks are good. Fried properly, not raw, not burnt, you get I believe 9 in an order. I greatly enjoyed them, however I would never pay more than a buck for a small brick of cheese. They were great, but not that great. The nachos were very barebones, something getting them at full capacity wouldn't have done much for. The queso is gross, and put me off from eating too much. The avocado was a single, sliced avocado which is fine, but pretty hard to eat with chips. The chicken was a bit of an issue, not tasting great. The fire island fries were good, I enjoyed the flavor change, but I feel like some cheddar would have made them from "good" to "amazing". Adding cheddar to my leftovers later confirmed that. The french onion soup was the shiniest turd I've had the experience of eating. It is the best of the worst, in every way. The cheese tastes a bit off, the broth did't have much flavor or salt, the onions were sour, and overall it looks tremendous, proper quality, but tasted like I was eating expired progresso with some sour cheese melted over it. I love proper French Onion soup, but this was very difficult to force myself to eat. The penne alla vodka was fine, but they could have added more salt, it just felt a little bland. The chicken was hard and dry. It didn't work with the dish itself, it felt like eating two different things at once, neither of them tasting as good as they should. The fish and chips were the real star. The fish was as crunchy as you expect, the chips were proper chips. The curry was hot but delicious, everything was absolutely fantastic. If I was reviewing on the fish and chips alone, this place would absolutely get five dtars. But they need to work on the other areas of their menu, they're heavily dragging this place down. I also got the donut with ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. A donut from dunkin would have been better in my opinion, and you would save $10 assembling everything yourself. Finally, the service. It was very here and there. At first, we were getting checked up on often, but at the end, there was a good 20 minute stint where they wouldn't show up at our table and we had to flag them over to get our check. I'm not rating this against them, but I would have liked a little more observation. It was a one and done place, with excellent fish and chips this side of the pond. If I was closer, this would be a Wednesday night thing, but I'm too far to justify that.
