Helped us out in a pinch. We were on a trip through Vermont, and after a Tire Warehouse had to break a lug nut off to get a tire off to fix a leak, we were in Warren with a car that had a tire with four out of five lug nuts. Since I knew it might be a part they might not have, I stopped at the auto parts store down the street, picked up the lug nut and stem, and brought it to Hap's. They had it fixed 20 minutes later and it cost 20 bucks. read more

It's too bad this is the only service for 20 miles. They really take advantage got charged $100 to put on my already mounted and balanced snow. Tires did not have to break anything down. They did not have to swap just had to balance and install. I should've remembered six years ago they charged my girlfriend $600 to put on brake pads and rotors. If they had expert technicians in there it would be one thing but when you have the secretary mounting tires, there is no professionalism! I got charged $45 extra for having out-of-state plates. They're very nice and friendly was given a price of $65 but was made to pay $100 before I can get my keys back. read more

The lady who came to tow us out of a snow bank was rude and condescending, nothing said was educational or considered "constructive criticism". As if we weren't already having a horrible day with having to call for a tow. I will not support a business who treats others this way. I am shocked and appalled to be treated like this because the snow we drove into was deeper than expected. This occurred in March, 2021. read more

Took in my car due to a check engine light coming on to see if they could pull the code and provide an estimate for repair. Due to COVID restrictions, it was just a key drop off without any interaction with the team. I left my phone number and informed them to call me before doing any work. They charged me $80 dollars for pulling the code without any notice - I needed to pay in order to get the keys for my car back. I have never heard of a shop charging anything - let alone $80 - for merely pulling a check engine code (plugging in a machine - takes all of 3 minutes). When I called in to ask why they charged me, they said that they spent an hour of labor on pulling the code and looking up the problem in order to generate the estimate... Went to another auto shop a couple days later and was able to receive the code and estimate for free. In addition to charging me $80 for 3 minutes of work that should be free, Hap's estimate was almost twice as much as the estimate from the other shop. Feel taken advantage of and would strongly recommend folks take their business elsewhere. read more

I spend a lot of time in the MRV because I own a condo there. I have never thought to go to Haps for car service. This morning, my car was making an odd sound that concerned me as we were preparing to leave on a 3 hr road trip. I called Haps and they took me by the afternoon. (Meanwhile, all of the dealerships in Burlington were booked solid for over a week.) "Big Josh" drove my car as we stood there, diagnosed the problem and then put it on the lift to show me exactly what was going on. And then refused to charge me. At the same time, my sister mentioned some work that she had been quoted for by her dealership. Josh was able to give her advice on each repair and quoted nearly every one for significantly less. Being that we are up so often, I am seriously considering having Josh and Haps do the regular maintenance on my car. These guys were kind, honest and a pleasure to deal with. As one of our first interactions in Vermont, we were immediately treated with rude and condescending remarks when calling to ask for help getting our car towed. We were provided with no helpful information when inquiring about our options. When asked to speak to the supervisor, I was told I was speaking to the owner. For years I used Hap's for quick fixes, although for major servicing I was more apt to go to the Volvo dealership in Shelburne. But the last two times I've had work done there, was majorly put off. Back In Feb. 2015 I contacted AAA and had car towed there, where it sat 7 days before the guys even took it into the bay! Repeated calls by me led to my filing a complaint with the manager, who was "very sorry", but that was about it. Still, for a recent problem I thought I'd try them again. Via AAA, my car was towed to them on a Monday afternoon (a week ago today). They didn't even look at it until late on Friday. Nothing since then, and they won't give me an idea of when they expect to resume diagnosing problem. (Vague rationales about problems with staffing, scheduling.) Bottom line: The two favorable online reviews from a couple years ago probably reflect their "old" (better) reputation. Hap's needs to take a look at what's gone down since. read more

These guys have lost a step since summer of '17. I think they lost the main mechanic who was very knowledgeable. Last job they left a loose part under the hood and forgot to put the brake fluid cap back on. read more

I recently finished a hike on the Long Trail. Returning to my car at the Appalachian Gap, I realized that I had a nail in my tire. I jumped on Yelp and started calling mechanics in the area. Hap's picked up the phone at close to 6:00PM. They told me the shop was closed, but I could leave the car for service the next day. We managed get a taxi home - which is a long-shot in this little town on a weeknight. The next morning I called the garage and they told me the car would be done shortly. They also said that they would pick me up if they had a driver in the area. Sure enough, a half-hour later they called to say a tow-truck driver would pick me up and take me back to the garage. My rental was ten miles from the shop! I didn't ask about the cost, but assumed that it was going to get pricey. Total cost to rescue my vacation, fix my car, pick me up WAY off the beaten path and drive me to the garage? $17.50! You heard that right. Hap's is the real deal. Solid people. Solid service. Go there and be happy! read more

Wonderful little shop with a friendly staff. We had some car trouble while passing through and the folks at Hap's put the car on the lift, quickly figured out our problem (just some rocks grinding against the brakes) and then refused to charge us anything.
