I have had only good experiences with Next Generation Automotive- they have gotten me out of multiple tight spots quickly and at a fair price. I most recently went there after mistakenly getting work done when my tires were being changed over at another shop (that *used to* store my tires)- I was charged twice by them - once for the "work" that led to a new rattling sound under the hood and a second time for "diagnostics," after which the rattling was louder. I went to Next Gen and problem was solved. I trust Rob with my car, and expect I will be doing all future car maintenance with him. read more

I have been taking my vehicle to Rob and NGA for several years. Here's what I will say...and I'll try to be as fair as I can. They are very good mechanics and are very technically knowledgeable. Vehicle has always been ready with one exception (which was a major engine rebuild). I have always been satisfied with the quality of the work performed and vehicle performance. They stand behind their work. They frequently can offer a beater/loaner car for the day...a major plus. On the other hand, having used other mechanics, I find NGA to be on the high end of pricing. (Sometimes significantly- I should learn to ask for a quote for each service call- so my bad on that) There doesn't seem to be an ethos of trying to save the customer money by using various parts suppliers or approaches. I know this is completely subjective but I feel that other mechanics offer equally good service at significantly less cost. If you are a person who just want's work done properly and by the book with cost as a secondary consideration, then you will likely be very satisfied. read more

Where do I start? Sometime in the fall my window would not roll up and I was headed back to where I previously lived (Boston) I went to Next Gen because my family are long time customers. They charged me about $100 to get it back up so I could drive down to Boston but it was a temporary fix because I was in a rush, fine thats all good. Then in November I went to Next Gen to get it fixed. The master switch had been broken so Rob installed another one. He did not inform me that the switch he installed was used. Had he given me the choice between a new switch and a used one, I would have chosen new. Less than 3 months later, the switch was broken. I called (2/21), left a VM and never heard back. I called AGAIN March 14th when I was informed I was given the used switch (no apology no explanation) I was told he would contact me with a quote to repair it again. I called twice after the March 14th call hoping to receive a quote. Only when my father reminded Rob to call me ( he was having his own car repairs done) did I finally receive an email. The email was sent over 2 weeks after my 3/14 call. He didn't even have the courtesy to use my name in the email he sent, only referring to me as "Tag's kid" under the estimate description. I'm 30 years old....there is no excuse for the way I was treated. They need to work on their customer service. When I received the quote, it was estimated to cost me an additional $400 after I had already paid $250 and it broke because he used a used switch without telling me! I asked for a refund for the original $150 I paid for the used switch. I think this is fair considering his mistake and the treatment I have received. He would not give me a refund but offered to do the repairs for no labor costs. He said the warranty on the part was up, maybe if he hadn't waited so long to return my calls and send me a quote it would have still been under warranty! I ended up taking my business elsewhere, I even paid more just so I didn't have to deal with this anymore. I moved back to VT this summer with my boyfriend, not only did he lose us as potential customers ( considering we live 5 minutes away) he also lost my father who had been going there for years. read more

I have been taking my cars to Next Generation Automotive for many years now, and have never been disappointed. It's thanks to the owner, Rob, that I am still driving my beloved 1999 Honda VTEC Si at 183,000 miles. There's a lot of extra effort that goes into keeping an older car in operation and in my experience, dealers don't like to work that hard. I've also had various issues with different cars over the years that dealers can't seem to diagnose but I take it to Rob and same day it's "oh, yeah, this is your problem." Plus it's nice that when you drop your car off and pick it up you are speaking directly to the mechanic who did the work, either Rob or an employee, so if you have questions you get answers straight from the source. Add to all that fair and reasonable rates and you can't go wrong! I would highly recommend to anyone that they give Next Gen a try. read more

I had two terrible experiences here. The first time I needed a car inspected I took it to their shop. They gave me a huge list of "needed" repairs and told me it wasn't inspectable. I took it to another reputable shop in Burlington and they fixed each item on the list during the inspection and didn't charge me a thing. The mud flap needed a grommet, a marker bulb was out, and it needed a slight adjustment to the front end. Next Generation screwed me out of 30 bucks because I "failed" the inspection and then wanted to charge me to fix all these items the other shop did for free. Horrible Service, and horrible value. My next experience was much worse. I started trying to replace the rear brakes on my car but ran into a rusty bolt I couldn't get loose. We called Next Generation and told them we already have the parts we just need them to install the rotors and pads. They said "sure that should be no problem, and if it is a problem, we will call you before working on your car." We had it towed to their shop, they performed a half an hour of "diagnostic work" on our car and then told us they couldn't use our parts and would charge us $900 to do a proper brake job on our car. I was shocked. They wouldn't even let us take the car off their lot without charging us for the "diagnostic work" performed. So they got another $30 from us without doing any work. I took it to another shop again and got a "proper" brake job for less than $400. I learned my lesson the hard way with these guys and will never take my cars there again. read more

I bought a coupon for a tire rotation on the internet. The owner found my info on his computer and told me that I couldn't use the coupon since I wasn't a "new customer" and that the coupon is ONLY for new customers. I have been to that garage only once before. He stressed the point that he doesn't make much money off the coupon and told me that if I wanted my tires changed, that I would have to pay an additional $51 on top of the $33 that I paid for the coupon. I refused. He settled for $38+tax AND took my coupon. The experience was very exasperating. The owner was very improfessional. I wlll never set foot in that garage again. read more

Took my car there for a state inspection and they failed it because they said the steering wheel had too much play in it. They showed me the regulation book that says the max amount of play was 2 inches for a power steering system and they said my car had 4 1/2 inches of play in it, in other words, they said I could turn the wheel 4 1/2 inched before the tires turned. So I paid for the inspection and then took the car somewhere else, and the car passed. I don't see how I could be able to drive the car, if I could turn the wheel 4 1/2 inches before the tires turned. I wouldn't recommend going to this place for any repairs. read more

I've been bringing my 2004 F150 to Next Gen for the last four years. Every repair has been done right the first time and for the amount estimated, or less. Unlike other shops that I've been to, Rob does not recommend unnecessary repairs to run up the bill. With an older vehicle, it's nice to have a shop you can trust to do the right thing and not take advantage of you. read more
