I decided to try happy nails when my usual shop was full and couldn't take me before close. It ended up being a great find and is now my favorite nail shop in the area. Pros: I have visited for a shellac manicure and a polish removal. Both times they were busy but the service was still great. They offer the full range of nail services and they are open a bit longer than other shops in the area which really helps if you're juggling kids, work, etc. Staff members work very efficiently and are super friendly. They do great work, are very attentive to detail and go the extra mile. For example when I went for a shellac polish removal several of my nails were cracked. The nail tech did a great job of making sure they were cut and filed where the cracks were, and he still managed to shape them nicely even though they had to be cut pretty short. I have never had anyone so attentive for a simple polish removal. Cons: can't really think of any. Bottom line: This is a quality shop, I'm so glad I found it. read more

A first timer at getting a manicure (yep, 31 years in the making ) and the experience was great! Had intended to get a pedicure but my friend wanted a mani and we would've been in opposite areas so I decided to go for the mani. That was a week ago and my nails are still looking fabulous! Amazed, really, since I do a lot of cooking and dishes (the usual reasons a manicure would've seemed like a waste of money). Communication wasn't that easy but my nail specialist was patient and friendly. The attention to detail was impressive and such a quick process! Not having a past experience to compare it too makes a review a bit challenging but for a first experience - I am very pleased!! Price was a bit higher than I expected ($45 with tip) but it's not something I do often so I didn't feel so bad. I would say this is average for a nail salon in the CR area. No appointments are needed - I had to wait a bit for a pedicure, but they at least let me soak my feet while I waited. Personally, this salon did not feel very clean - dust in the window sills and somewhat cluttered. The nail technician was quiet and did not engage in any conversation other than asking if I liked the final result and to wait for 2 minutes. I did like that they offered various spa packages with various essential oils and hot stones - definitely appealing. And there was one nail technician there that was really pleasant and talked with her client which was nice to see. My toes ended up looking ok - I felt the pedicure was rushed and the nail polish looked clumpy and did end up looking streaky on my big nails. Called ahead to see if an appointment was needed for a shellac mani, was informed that a walk in would be fine for that service. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted and shown where to sit. I was given a ring with numerous shellac samples to choose my color from. The technician showed me the color from the bottle to ensure I liked it. The staff was friendly and ensured I was happy with the length and shape for my nail. Waited for me to agree before moving on. Once again double checked that I liked the chosen color on my nail before moving on. My only "complaint" is that the tech was rougher than I would have appreciated when pushing back my cuticles, and that she did not keep in rotation of right hand getting the treatment before the left, switching back to the right before move onto the next step. For example, the nails on my right hand were trimmed and filed before putting into a water dish to soften the cuticles. Once the same treatment had been done to my left hand, she proceeded to push back my cuticles and trim them on my left hand without putting them in the water to soak while the softened cuticles of my right hand were pushed and trimmed. Again this happened after applying the final coat of shellac. She began giving me a rushed hand and arm message before my nails had fully cured on my left hand when my right hand had double cure time before receiving the rushed hand and arm message. Some people don't care about those things, and some do. That is the only reason I included it. I am overall, happy with the service for being able to be a walk in to a new-to-me shop. read more

Worst experience EVER at a nail salon. I came in because my normal place was booked for the next several days and I just happen to drive by and stopped in. I wanted a dip manicure and it took them 45 minutes to take my old dip off. It became extremely busy and I could tell the staff was getting frustrated as they were all rushing through services to try to get people out the door. The older gal that did my nails was incredibly rough with me and I told her several times that she needed to slow down because she was hurting me. She left several thick layers of the powder and I kept telling her it needed to be thinner and she kept telling me that she would make it thinner. Filing- filing-filing and MORE filing! Through the entire process she was incredibly rude and she was incredibly rushed which frustrated me because I'd already been waiting for over an hour at this point. She ended up getting dip powder all over my cuticle all over the side of my nails which I know in the next few days is going to cause them to lift. The shape that I wanted was squared round and she ended up filing all of them completely different lengths and shapes. I could tell that the owner was looking over at me as I was looking at my nails and she came over to me and asked if everything was OK. I told her no it wasn't OK the dip powder was incredibly thick and it was on my skin it was all different thickness and my nails were all different shapes and lengths and I was incredibly unhappy with the service because it was rushed. She attempted to fix it with several minutes of filing which still left them completely too thick and the polish is still on my skin and cuticles. I won't be visiting the salon ever again- they charged me full price for the service. I was there for almost 3 hours for service that should've taken 45 minutes to an hour. I just moved here to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and have been trying to find a nice nail salon. I have to say, this is the one! After endless Google searches, I am happy to say that I picked a good one! The staff here are amazing and super, super talented! Not only were they nice to me but I also noticed their overall kindness to others who were also there. I am confident to say that I will no longer need to search up any more nail salons because this is the one that I'll be going to! Lisa did my nails and I absolutely love the set that she did for me. I was welcomed by all the ladies who were up at front and everything went extremely well. The ambience here is wonderful as well. Tools were clean and so was the overall store. My 2nd visit was for a pedicure and fill. Excellent pedicure...HOWEVER, the fill was the worst ever. The owner was the lady who did the work and did it I while I was getting pedi done. Bad deal all the way around. Totally unsatisfactory workmanship. I came back later same day and she 1/2 fixed one nail on one hand. Feeling somewhat intimidatEd yet still in satisfied and upset that I spent 85$; 30$ for the pedi & 55$ for the fill...I returned to have it corrected and was met with great service and work from different technicIan, yet owner STILL tried to charge me 65$. I have been going to Happy Nails for a few years. I'm new to Cedar Rapids so I don't know where to go and I don't know anyone here. Each time I get my nails done they treat me like I've never been there before. Today I had the worst experience ever. A man did my nails. He used the drill on my nails and 6 of my nails are bleeding and hurting. I complained to him but I don't think he understood. The owner started burning incense which gave me a migraine and I had to ask for a mask. My nails were not dry when he told me I could go and then he had to re-do them. My nails are super short. My dip nails are very thick. My nails are uneven. I will never go back ever again. I do not recommend this place to anyone. The place is filthy. read more

My appointment was on Sunday afternoon, my technician appeared to not feel well and it shows in her work. They were not busy. To soak off the previous dip you are expected to fit all five nails in a tiny tin cup full of acetone, not only is this uncomfortable and messy, the ends of my fingers are now horribly dried out. My cuticles are shredded with many cuts from the drill, my tech neither acknowledged or apologized cutting me numerous times. My nails are all unevenly shaped, when asked what shape I wanted I requested not square; half are square and a few are round and I don't know what shape to call the rest. The dip powder was all over the sides of my nails and cuticles which makes them misshaped, rough and they wil chip off. After my tech was finished I was asked to wash my hands and then she told me I was finished. There was no cuticle oil, lotion offered or hand massage. I do not recommend Happy Nails, nor will I be back. read more

Don't waste your money! This place is TERRIBLE at managing their time and providing good customer service. Made an appointment but that didn't matter because they didn't honor it, waited roughly and hour after my appointment time to even get my services started. I wanted a specific pedicure but wasn't given the option because they were running behind, and the pedicure was subpar because she was rushing. Three different people worked on my fill-in and it wasn't until I stated that I wanted to leave (even with my nails half done) that someone actually came to finish up. My nails are not what I wanted because again they were rushing and lacked consistency. As I heard others correct workers for their services their responses weren't helpful at all and they kept giving the excuse "we're busy" when they could have easily turned people away to manage the time and quality. May have been better if they were consistent and listened but I won't risk coming back and spending money with people who don't seem to value patronage. Just horrible read more

This is going to be a long review so grab a snack and sit tight. Let me start by saying that this is my second time at this nail salon. My first visit was very pleasant. This visit was very different. When my 9 year old daughter and I arrived, we were told no wait. We were told not to pick a color but to sit in a specifically numbered pedicure chair. This chair had someone else's discarded coffee and various other trash on the table attached to it and this was never moved. We ended up sitting there for 45 minutes before the nail process started. There was no offer of complimentary drink that I've experienced at every other nail salon I've ever visited. I asked for gel nails and was told it would be $20 extra. That's fine if that's their pricing but I've only ever paid $10 extra for gel anywhere else. There was no sanitary plastic placed in the foot basin of the chair and I did not see the staff clean any of the chairs/basins after the other customers finished their treatments. My basin was draining water. It turned out that there was another clients clipped off toenail in the drain preventing it from sealing properly. To which, the woman doing my nails just discarded onto the floor and continued doing my toes without sanitizing or even apologizing for the nail! The uv light machines used for the gel nails were also very dirty. You could tell they are rarely even wiped off. There was a woman sitting across the room from me who was waiting for her friends to come. When her friend came, there were 2 staff members near me who were staring at her and saying things to each other and laughing for a long while. You could tell they were talking about her. When that woman decided to leave because the wait was too long, the women started ganging up on the customer and saying that her friend was rude with no patience and they needed to learn how to be patient. It was strange and uncomfortable. The woman said my daughters nail design was free as she was under 10 years old. Then when they gave me the breakdown at time of payment they said my 9 year olds pedicure was $25 WITH the price of the design. The pedicure for me was $25 (no design on me) plus $20 for gel. They requested paying their tip in cash. When I agreed to that they asked how much I was going to tip. I said $10 (I usually tip high but was unsatisfied with this trip). The woman did not seem pleased with this amount. Then another woman came up to me very quickly and reached over my wallet, her hand now in front of my face, asking me to give her the cash. This other woman also tried taking the card reader with my card still in it, out of my hand while I was signing my name. Then didn't allow me to pull my own card out of the card reader, she pushed my hand away and pulled it out herself. The final straw was they wanted my daughter to dry her nails under the table with the fan underneath. Instead of getting up to turn it on, they told me to turn it on for them. There were 4 switches to choose from and none were labeled. Each switch I pressed, the woman would yell at me "no the other one" until I got it right. My daughter has never used this type of table before and was confused on where to put her feet. The woman came up to my daughter and said "what's wrong with you? Put your feet here" then grabbed my daughters legs and pushed them to where her feet were now under the table. read more

Went to get nails done today with wedding party very poor service. Nails all look like shit we where rushed and did not get the quality of service for what we paid. Girls asked to leave nails unclipped and they clipped them anyways, acrylic nails uneven jagged and did not even cover up entire nail so will not last as long due to being easier to lift off real nail. Very unsatisfied and would not recommend using their services. If could leave negative stars they would get a -5 stars read more

me and my roommate came here an hour prior to close. when we sat down one lady immediately started talking about how she wanted to go home even though they didn't close for an hour. she could've literally just told us they couldn't take us and i would've been fine with that. i requested french tips with little red hearts and she price quoted me $80 which is absolutely ridiculous for the design I was requesting then she suggested I get white tips and said that she wouldn't paint on French tips for anything less than $80. I didn't want the white tips because they were ugly. never in my life have I gone to a nail salon and been quoted $80 for French tips because that's ridiculous so I told her that I wouldn't be paying $80 and I wouldn't be doing the white tips so she rudely told me to pick a different design. then I decided I didn't want a design so I asked if I could see the color wheel and the other girl said "no". the first girl did end up getting me the color wheel so i picked my color and asked for a TINY white heart she charged me $60 for that. my roommate asked for red nails with an xo and a heart. they cut her nails way shorter than she asked for and they had to redo the o like ten times then they charged her $73. they also gave her dip and charged her extra without giving the option for gel. i do not recommend this salon nor would i go back. read more

There were no other customers (and I'm sure they were ready to go by this time). They were happy to accommodate me and did a GREAT job! There doesn't appear to be much ventilation in this place - the fumes were very strong. I went in for a gel manicure and polish - within 3 days, 2 nails had chips in the polish and the other nails were starting to wear off on the edges. The technician who did the gel part didn't speak any English and did a terrible job with my nails. I had a set done 3 weeks before this and there was no chips or wearing at all - but that set was done in Kansas City. The color selection for gel polish was also very limited. Don't go for pedicure unless it's warm weather. I repeatedly expressed concern that my toes be dried completely bc they had to go back in to the shoes and socks I was wearing due to snow on the ground. I was rushed off the dryer after a few cycles (I don't think they noticed I hit the Start button myself a few times) with a "YOU DONE!" that could well have translated in to 'No more electricity for you!' Sure as shit I had sock imprints in my toenails when I got home. I will return when it's flip flop season bc prices are good and they always have plenty of staff on duty to keep down the wait time. I suspect the cut will result in an overgrown toenail but that could happen anywhere. Language barrier is an issue. read more

Terrible racist business!!! Worst shellac mani-pedi I have ever had!!! My nails look like I need to go get them done and it hasn't even been one day!!!! Poor communication, chipped, uneven French tip, does NOT look clean and filled my skin off my left toe (which is very sore and red!). Rushed me through my service if they would of taken the time to do their job RIGHT from the beginning they may of turned out good. Which I don't know why when I was the only one there at time and never said I was in a hurry. I wanted to relax and get my nails done and then get back to work. Then I get home tonight and my right toes polish is off in one spot from my shoe, ReALLY shellac does NOT come off easy.
