After endless hours of research, I decided to take a leap of faith with Fix. I'm a Chicago native and I have curly hair so I'm ambivalent about "foreign" salons. Not many people can work curl magic these days. I called hoping to get an appointment for that day, but they were booked so I was set up with an appointment a few days out. The atmosphere is very industrial chic. It's a very unique setup in a larger space so you don't feel like you're right on top of the person next to you. While most of the decor was cool and tasteful, like the funky vintage hair styling machine in the front waiting area, I was kinda disturbed by the "Dead Hooker Storage" sign near the beard products. I arrived a few minutes early and only waited a few minutes past my appointment time. Everyone was very welcoming. My stylist, Juliet, was also the owner. She was very patient with me while I struggled to explain what I wanted and walked me through each step of the process. She NAILED it and I am one of those people who rarely leaves a salon chair happy. Needless to say, I will definitely be back to Fix. read more

The stylists are kind and honest. Shauna is so knowledgeable. She cut and styled my curly hair perfectly. I also got my eyebrows waxed, which were really well done! Couldn't be more disappointed, I spent almost $400 (including tip) for a cut and color and my hair looks the same. The cut was good but I had to be out of town the next day and could not come back in for the color to be fixed. She had to put a light on it just so I could see some of the blonde. I should note that I specifically asked for the blonde I had at the bottom to be blended and brought to the top. I think she knew it was bad because she told me I could come back if I wanted more. I was left with random sections of blonde that was no where close to evenly distributed. I also had asked for it to be styled since I would be leaving the next day and she blow dried and straightened it saying she didn't have time to curl. Mind you she is the one that picked this time for my appointment not me. No refund was issued and asked for contact info for manger/owner and never received it. Several people commented how they couldn't believe I paid that much and there wasn't a change except a very noticeable blonde streak (sadly will relive through all the pictures that had been taken). I went here yesterday for a trim and overall make my hair less heavy. I always get so bad anxiety when I go to a new salon that they will screw up my hair. I used to drive an hour to go to someone in my hometown who I've gone to for years, but decided and hour drive back and fourth isn't the best option so I found this place. To say that the person I had knew exactly what to do and made sure that I didn't feel pressured into doing anything really settled my nerves and i left happy! I have been looking for a salon in Cedar Rapids since I left my hair fairy godmother in Des Moines. I tried a few places and just didn't love them. I was working on getting some green out of my hair and it was stubborn! I absolutely LOVED my experience here. I happened to squeeze in with Anne, who apparently doesn't usually take new clients. I'm so glad I did! She treated me like an old friend and my hair looked FABULOUS! She got all the green out and gave me a nice cut. Anne is awesome! Managed to get an appointment with her even though she doesn't usually take new clients. She cuts my hair exactly how I ask, and is very down to earth. She is also the first hair stylist I've been to that has cotton swabs at her station to clean the water out after the shampooing - never knew I needed them until I got offered one! I tend to go away from cookie cutter places and when I find a designer I stick to them like glue. Juliet is my designer, and she is amazing. The decor is fresh, inviting and stylish. The designers are allowed to be individuals and not wear cookie-cutter black. They sell top shelf Oribe products and are very knowledgeable on their craft. Staff is skilled in multiple areas, and Juliet is dedicated to ongoing education regarding trends, practices, and products. Prices are super reasonable, especially for those used to paying $60 for a good haircut in the city. Chelsea did a fantastic mani (shellace) for me. Massage #3 is today (all have been great). This salon is my new saving grace. Full disclosure-- I was a DIY hair color junkie for years but after one too many bad dye/bleach jobs I realized I really need to see a professional and stop trying to turn my bathroom into a ratchet YouTube tutorial salon. I booked an appt with Carrie knowing full well that this was going to be my first appt of many and it was going to be more of a rescue than a new look. Eventually I was going to try and make my way back to blonde, and what I walked in with was a terrible brassy red color with bright gold roots and 2 years of DIY haircuts that made me resemble Lord Farquaad from Shrek. I wanted it to be done right so I had budgeted a minimum of $300 because that was the average amount that I have had to spend at other salons for lightening and color correcting on my mop of hair. I think my jaw may have literally dropped when she told me the price as I checked out, it was literally half of what I was budgeting - and I was even mentally preparing myself to pay over $300 because she did such a great job! The atmosphere of this salon is really great. I had no wait time at all and Carrie was friendly and welcoming. I showed her a few pictures of what my end goal is and gave her a heads up that I knew this was going to take a few salon trips before I'd end up there, so right now I just wanted the color to be blended enough so I didn't have to keep braiding my hair to try and hide my botched DIY dye job . Carrie quickly assessed the damage and explained how she was going to camouflage it while still getting me closer to the end result I'm wanting, and also didn't make me feel like a complete idiot for doing it in the first place. I have really thick hair so I'm used to appts taking 3-4 hours when I get a highlight and cut, I was so impressed that Carrie did a color, balayage, cut/texturize, and style in just over 2 hours. And despite the ratchet canvas I gave her to work with, my hair looked and felt great when I walked out of that salon. I have never scheduled a follow up appt the same day as a salon visit because I've never liked anyone enough to want to go back, but I booked with Carrie again that same day. I also feel like it's worth mentioning, I am pretty prone to being socially awkward so salon conversation is not my forte. Carrie was super friendly but she instantly picked up on my less than chatty demeanor and played it off so well. She never made me feel awkward or made me feel like I was an inconvenience, and she kept me updated on where we were at in each process. After reading what amazing reviews this place had, I decided to book an appointment for an eyebrow waxing. I went in and explained to the woman doing them that I didn't want much taken off (I have a really nice shape naturally, just needed the excess off from the bottom) and she told me now problem. I was made to feel comfortable, the salon is really nice and the woman doing my eyebrows was welcoming. Even with this though, good conversations and a nice salon doesn't make up for what she did to my eyebrows. I'm no stranger to waxing my eyebrows, so when she put wax in the middle, I could tell that it was a bit too far inwards. A few other things weren't quite right either. When she handed me the mirror, my eyebrows look completely different. They are so far apart from each other, she took off a lot of length from the ends of them, and to top it all off, they look like two different eyebrows. If I didn't know any better I would say that this was her very first time ever waxing. I was so embarrassed walking out of the salon, I felt worse than when I walked in. I have an appointment in a couple of days to get my eyebrows microbladed because of this. So my $22 eyebrow waxing is now costing $400 to fix. read more

Ambrea is so, so amazing. She's so great with color, SO great with cuts, and every time I get a new 'do, I receive many compliments. Moved back here and was looking for somewhere good to get my hair done because I never was able to find anywhere before. Went off yelp and got Shauna recommended to me by the receptionist. She was absolutely wonderful and able to literally mimic not only the cut but also style of a photo I showed her on my phone for all of a second (I planned to bring a print but lost it along the way). Never had anyone that amazing before! Price was decent at $53. Salon is gorgeous and very hipstery. Only complaints would be air conditioning was broke (they said would be fixed on Friday) and their website is impossible to book on (or at least very convoluted I couldn't figure it out) but I'd take both of those problems for a good hair cut. read more

I fell into Fix salon by accident when the water was off at my home on a Monday morning and I needed a shampoo badly. I called several salons and they were all closed until Juliet answered her phone at 8:30 am. She graciously got me in and off to work Since then, she had cut my hair, helped me grow out my gray (I am old) kept my style current, introduced me to great new products, improved the condition of my hair and even gave me to Shanna her partner to give me a new cut Last week I miss scheduled and didn't leave enough time for cut, color and make my 4:00 appointment. This was my first time at fix salon and I wanted a very specific color back to my original color and I had Brooke she was awesome, so friendly easy to talk to and gave me a great cut keeping my length but adding some layers! The ambience and atmosphere was just my vibe I felt so comfortable they offer drinks play good music and have awesome products I love the oribe! I also opted for a cleansing treatment to rid buildup and help with color and it made my hair feel amazing and my scalp too I will be going back monthly for this treatment I could do it at home but for the price and to just have them do it it's worth it! I love this place! They do everything I need (hair, spray tan, nails) and more! The ladies here are very friendly so every time I go I feel like I'm going to a friend's trendy place, not into an uptight formal salon. Chelsea is my stylist (she does nails too!), she is super sweet and seems to always know what I'm going for and is flexible when I change my mind. I'm always happy when I leave. Morgan does my spray tan. She makes what could be a slightly awkward process comfortable and the color turns out just right every time. I found Fix after getting, quite possibly the worst hair color and cut of my entire life elsewhere and needed advise on what to do for my hair. I met with Bree and really appreciated how she listened to me and gave me recommendations. I immediately had confidence in her skills.
