I recently went to their their yakult lemonade drink and I was a bit dissatisfied. I have been to happy lemon a few time before and I remember it being really good but I'm not sure if it's the competition nearby but the quality of the drinks has gone down and so has their customers. My drink was just watery and didn't really haven't the lemonade flavor which I had previously remembered. The service was fast yes but I would've rather waited for a better drink. Unfortunately the ambiance wasn't really giving clean either.

The ube milk tea w/ puff cream is delicious and so worth it as it's only $6.50. Compared to many options around the area, this specific drink has remained one of my favorites in both flavor and affordability. It has a perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess and comes in a decent size as well.

Quaint boba store along Shattuck with a few tables and a VERY yellow inside. Staff is friendly and efficient with orders. Mango Yakult: pretty dang good. Tastes like those Asian milky mango jelly cups they sell in a jar. Matcha Tiramisu Salt Cream: got 75% sugar and the drink just tastes like poor quality matcha. It was giving matcha pocky. Not my fave. Dragonfruit lychee juice salt cream: man that's nasty. it's just not my favorite combinations of flavors. Overly sweet & fruity and also too salty @_@ Roasted tea top cream: got 50% sweetness and honestly it tasted like 50% TEA. Like it was watered down. Boba quality throughout all the drinks was some of the BEST boba I've had in a while. The drinks themselves... more miss than hit.

D5. Boba Milk Tea with Puff Cream. It was fine, but not blended particularly well. Also, the tea was watery.

I tried their "Boba Milk Tea w/ Puff Cream" (D5), which comes in one size (large). It was fine. The milk tea itself was watery and not super flavorful, even at 75% sweetness. The drink relies heavily on the puff cream, which is delicious, to enhance the overall flavor. Unfortunately, the puff cream is so thick, it's not really blended at all--they just coat the inside of the cup with it and pour the boba and tea on top. Nothing actually gets mixed together, so you need to scoop a lot of the cream out towards the end if you're not constantly swirling your drink. I also felt it was a bit pricey at $7. I also tried their chocolate bubble waffle, which was also fine. It does not come with any dipping sauce, so you have to pay $1 extra if you want that, and it's really needed for an otherwise dry waffle. In total, this was $7.50, and I don't think I'd order it again. Maybe I will try something different next time I am in the area (perhaps one of their blended drinks), but I'd stay away from the straight teas.

I got the mango green tea. It was absolutely delicious. The mango flavor was great and the mango Boba. Added a great taste and the service was really well no complaints highly recommended

Every Happy Lemon shop I go to never fails to meet my expectations. My go to order is the boba milk tea with puff cream, 50% sugar and 50% ice. The worker made my drink to perfection. Puff cream adds an extra layer of creamy richness to the milk tea. 10/10 would recommend happy lemon to anyone as it's one of my favorite boba spots.

I really enjoyed Happy Lemon. It's one of my favorite boba shops in Berkeley. I ordered their bestseller the Green Tea Salted Cheese with lychee jelly and my friends ordered another bestseller Milk Tea Salted Cheese with boba and Passionfruit Green Tea with boba. I got 75% sweetness for the Green Tea Salted Cheese drink but I wish I got 50% or lower. It wasn't overly sweet but I like lighter teas more. The salted cheese was perfect and paired so well. The Green Tea was really refreshing. The Milk Tea was heavier and still pretty good but I preferred the Green Tea more. The lychee jelly was good but boba was a bit undercooked. The Passionfruit Green Tea was also very refreshing but it was too sweet for me with 100% sugar. Overall very yummy. Nothing really stood out about the service, but there are a couple tables around and could be a nice study spot if you like to work with liveliness around you. I can't wait to try more drinks on the menu and the egg waffle!

I enjoyed trying Happy Lemon for the first time! The tea was tasty, but I was more of a fan of the dessert! The sweet dipping sauce flows perfectly with the egg waffle!

D6. Ube Milk Tea w/ Taro Puff Cream & Taro Balls
    Emily X.

First time trying Happy Lemon and I was disappointed with my drink. I ordered the D6. Ube Milk Tea w/ Taro Puff Cream & Taro Balls. The drink itself was not very good, the redeeming factor were the taro balls. They were fresh tasting, chewy, plentiful, and the perfect size. If I come back, I will be ordering the taro balls as toppings. The drink itself had an off taste to it. Not sure what it was or how to describe it. Maybe the tea didn't match the flavors of the ube and taro? Not that there was much of a taro or ube flavor. Overall, if skip this drink and try something else...

The tea was really good but lost a star due to the boba being too hard. We ordered the Ube Puff and Dragon fruit lychee.

    Yes they do!

Hi! I read a review that this place refuses to sub soy milk for dairy in the milk teas, is this true? I'm skeptical because every other boba spot can sub for non-dairy milk since a lot of ppl are either vegan or lactose intolerant.

Yeah some of them they won't sub because it's already mixed in and some of them they will. RareTea will always sub, they're my go to!

I'm usually not much of a milk tea person, but the Bubble Volcano won me over. Made with fresh milk, brown sugar, and boba, it was rich without being overly heavy or cloying. The boba pearls were excellent quality -- fresh, soft, and perfectly chewy all the way through. None of that hard-center, overly gelatinous texture you sometimes get elsewhere. The sweetness level was also well-balanced and restrained, which made the drink even more enjoyable. My favorite was the Green Tea + Mango. Sweet, refreshing, bright, and satisfying. The drink tasted clean and natural, not syrupy or artificially candy-like. The twine rope carry handle is adorable! Super cute presentation and very aesthetically pleasing... although I'm 99% sure I'm eventually going to spill the drink everywhere while carrying it around. Worth the risk.

It was barely sweet, 50% is the lowest sweetness you can set for this drink. I was disappointed by this one as I felt the tea and floral flavors could've been stronger, it really just tasted of honey. Large chocoberry bliss, warm, 50 sweet (which was the recommended sweetness): It's a non caffeinated drink and can only be hot or warm. It tastes of dark chocolate with strawberry. It reminded me of hot chocolate but with a strawberry milk flavor, I liked it and would recommend trying it when it's in season if you enjoy sweets and chocolate in particular. Cheese creamer black tea, no ice, 0% sweetness, large cold: The tea is truly bitter when at 0% sweetness, which is what I intended. A generous thick amount of creamer on top. It doesn't mix easily with the tea. Note that on Snackpass, they add another $0.25 onto the price of your drink for "city cup fee" - referring to City of Berkeley's fee charged for plastic drink cups. I have found they're usually pretty fast at making the drinks and they may be done earlier than what Snackpass estimates. Sometimes you may need to get the attention of one of the workers as they can be occupied working and aren't always at the counter looking at you.
