    The eco friendly cup

I was walking around the campus in the mood for drinks. This place happened to be close by so I went to it. Ordered the Apple Cider which I found incredibly cheap compared to other drink places I have been to in the past. It was really good, you could taste the sweetness of the apple. My favorite drink besides the standard Frappuccino's.

I walked by one morning and ordered a 10-ounce Ethiopian brewed coffee. It was A-OK and probably better than average for brewed coffees around the campus. The listed price was $2.60, but I was charged an extra $0.15 for a compostable cup because I hadn't come with my own container. Sad! As I explained to the guy behind the counter ("barista" would probably be going too far), the 15-cent price differential would have been more palatable had it been a *credit* for people arriving with their own cups, rather than a penalty for people without. Whatever. I paid $2.75 for my coffee and left the 25 cents that I got in change as a small tip. The "plastic" lid that I put on my compostable cup describes itself as "commercially compostable only." That means that it'll sit around indefinitely if you stuck it in your backyard compost bin but can be composted by companies like Recology (https://www.recology.com) if you put it in a public compost container. (I suspect that Recology could compost a jumbo jet if you asked them to.) Since the campus is full of such containers, we're good.

Good coffee. Rude staff. Best iced vanilla latte on campus.

FSM I've never tried the beverages, but my review here is based on the Napa Chicken Salad.

Sometimes I cannot fathom the cost of my smoothie matching the quality but maybe that's me. I notice the advertised macro nutrients but also the amount of smoothie left over in the blender and can't help but wonder, is this truly x grams of protein or x calories. Maybe consistency is the question at hand. I do love this location, and I love the menu.

I absolutely love this Earthbar on 4th Street and end up here pretty often. The consistency,…read morequality, and genuinely kind staff are what keep me coming back. The menu has a lot of range which I'm grateful for: coffee, smoothies, bowls, toast, and everything is customizable with different boosts and swaps depending on what you need that day! I always feel good about what I order here. I usually go for the Power Shred smoothie since it has a really solid protein to calorie ratio (love the sprinkle of coconut on top too), and their avocado ricotta toast is so good (I always ask for pesto on it). The Original Fit Frappe reminds me of a frappe from bigger chain coffee spots, but it feels more balanced and made with better ingredients. I've been to a few other Earthbar locations and this one is definitely my favorite, the ambiance is clean and open, and the service is just consistently kind. Big shoutout to Victoria and Dom! As someone who works in service, I definitely notice that kind of care in places I go to, and they always make the experience feel easy and welcoming. It's nice to have them as familiar faces there. Quality and consistency is always there too.

Ok I see you, Berkeley! While in the area, I noticed across the street from the Telegraph Channing…read moreGarage, this beautifully cool building/sign for Layers Superfood Bar. Love the aesthetic. While there is limited seating indoors, this feels like more of a grab-and-go style spot near the Cal Berkeley campus. There were a few students that came through while I was waiting on my order. I grabbed a smoothie and a bowl ~ checking out the menu a bit more thoroughly for next time, I'll order the Bowlieve Me, Baby (Red Dragon Fruit Base) or the I'm So Blue Without U (Blue Spirulina Base). You can adjust your toppings, and there's a checkbox to select the almond granola (GF, vegan) or with no granola. The bowl sizes are small, medium, large (8oz, 16oz, 24oz) and it looks like the smoothies come in one size. For the smoothies you can pick your plant milk (coconut/oat/soy come with a charge). They also serve energy balls that look adorably delicious and eye-catching. The bowls and smoothies are aesthetically pleasing and incredibly nourishing. What a fun find and win for the East Bay if in the area + need for a bit of elevated (and beautiful) nutrition. Smoothie-wise the Strawesome is delish and the Greenergy looks great! You can find parking in the garage across the street (I think the first hour may be free?) or street parking near/around the area with a short walk. Can't wait to know more about this special spot! Will def be back.

She might've been the owner, I'm not totally sure, but she was so kind and welcoming which honestly made the experience feel really good. I got the Straw Awesome smoothie and I will say, it looked really cute. Like the presentation was definitely there. But the actual drink just didn't hit. It was around $11 or $12 and for that price I expected it to taste a lot better, but it just wasn't good. I honestly wish I had gotten an açai bowl instead because it would've been more filling and probably only a few dollars more, and I feel like I would've enjoyed it way more. So yeah, the place is adorable and the service is great, but the smoothie itself was low-key disappointing and I wouldn't get it again.
