We had a nice time at Jacks. The ribs are served with a great bark, dry, two styles of sauce are on the table. The smoked turkey breast was flavorful and tender. I wonder if they ever smoke prime rib???? The beans were amazing. The Jacked Up cornbread has shredded brisket, chilies, and is delicious. After a friend of my husband's recommended we head to Holyoke, Colorado and give Happy Jacks Barbeque a try, we figured why not, and made our way to the northeast corner of the state for lunch. STAR #1 - Whoa dat's a lot of menu options, Yelp-man! If there's a meat, Happy Jacks Barbeque has it and smokes it. I chose the brisket sandwich for my meal. It was so freaking good. STAR #2 - The sides. I was torn on what to order, so I asked the host what she would recommend. She pointed me in the direction of the shells and cheese, so glad she did. It was the perfect pairing to my sandwich. STAR #3 - Simplicity. You'll find two barbeque sauces on the table: a traditional sweet and spicy, and a mustard type one. I was surprised at how tasty they both were, but the more traditional sweet and spicy was my favorite. STAR #4 - The space. You feel like you walked into a Texas smokehouse. Out front, there are a few picnic tables before you walk in. Inside, there's a separate private seating area to the left as you walk in. In the main dinning area, there's a small selection of tables. I could see it filling up fast here though. STAR #5 - Leave room for dessert? You're gonna wish you had, like I did. That's good because they have a selection of tasty treats to top off your meal including banana pudding poke cake, peach cobbler, pork belly candy, and more. Make sure to wear those stretchy pants. Not gonna lie, Happy Jacks Barbeque was definitely a hit with our group. I'd easily make my way back for another meal. read more

We were stuck in town working all week. This was by far the best food we've eaten! We both had pulled pork sandwiches and they were great. There wasn't a lot of seating inside, but we did find a table. The ladies that were working were SO sweet and helpful! We will definitely be back! read more

It's the best barbeque in all of Holyoke! Ok, it's the ONLY game in town for barbecue, but it fills a much-needed niche here. And, it's good stuff! We pick up a to-go order almost every time when we're here to visit. Opening a Texas-style bbq joint in a small Colorado farm community was most certainly a risk, but I'm sure glad the owners put down some roots here. It gives Holyoke a flair that a lot of surrounding communities lack. There's certainly a variety of restaurants available here - Mexican and Chinese, to your basic American fare, but Happy Jack's feels like it's been part of the community for a long, long time. Some of the bench seating in the dining room I recognized right away; they came from the old Scormor Lanes bowling alley! A couple of their long tables are actual lanes from that long-gone landmark of growing up here. Maybe that's why it feels like an old friend? I don't claim to be an expert in the art of barbecue, but I did live in Texas for 4 years, and have lived in Kansas City for the past 16+ years, so I've had my fair share of barbecue. Happy Jacks would be at home in either place. If I'm being 100% honest? I think their side dishes could use some refinement. Just a small criticism based on our most recent visit...the potato salad was a bit heavy on the black pepper. They also forgot to put our cobbler in the to-go packaging (which was quickly rectified with a phone call and a trip back to the storefront.) Maybe they should field a team at the American Royal sometime? Maybe they already have? Get the Peach Cobbler too! It's worth the return trip ;) read more

I really liked this place. Great variety, really good food, great option if you like meat. Everything had good flavor, service was pleasant, place was clean. Perfect lunch as we traveled through Colorado en route to Kansas as part of a 3,500 mile road trip. Not many sauce options, but I tried several of the appetizers, sandwiches and varied meat options and enjoyed everything. The dirty cornbread was excellent and probably my favorite. read more

I was in town for an afternoon and was told we had to try this place. I was so glad we did. We ordered a LOT of food to try. Brisket sandwich, pork belly sandwich, bologna sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, half rack, burnt ends, beans, chili cheese fries, red dirt fries and jalapeño corn bread. It was all so so good! I can't complain bout good bbq. My fave is the pulled pork and the great bbqsauce. I would prefer the brisket but I found that there can be bigger pieces of fat and I'm not a fan of that. But it's really good too. read more

Amazing! Walked in on a Saturday for lunch with our family we were in town to meet for a celebration of life, Arlene Foley. We were so pleased to meet Allyn, who came out from the kitchen to greet us and welcome us to his restaurant. I ordered the baby back ribs and smoked sausage, my wife ordered the bbq street taco's. Others in our party ordered pulled pork sandwiches and side of the beans. Everything was absolutely delicious! Ribs were 'fall off the bone' tender! Smoked sausage was fantastic, beans a little spicy... but not too much to enjoy. I would recommend this place to anyone who finds themselves in Holyoke Colorado! Allyn knows his BBQ! read more

Stayed in Holyoke for a wedding and this was by far the best restaurant in town AND we ate at every restaurant in town. Brisket and cornbread was on point. We were traveling on I80 thru Nebraska and then I76 once in Colorado. Started looking for a place to eat. Driving all day, you want to sit down to a good meal. Even though it ends up adding about 19 miles, it was well worth the extra effort. Restaurant was clean, decorated nicely, and the staff was exceptional. We had brisket, hot links and fish tacos then finished off the meal with peach cobbler. Everything was terrific! The meat eaters said it was delicious. A sign says that this is the best BBQ in northeast Colorado but this is way off. Because this place may very well be the best BBQ in all of Colorado. The meat is done to perfection. After listening to my daughter and her boyfriend rave about Happy Jack's (they often make the 108 mile round trip to get bbcue to go), my hubby and I made the trip tonight to try it...can I just say that it was well worth the trip! Seriously THE BEST barbecue in Colorado that I've had. Especially in the area. I had a pulled pork sandwich with baked pinto beans and potato salad, with peach cobbler at the end. I do not have a single complaint. My daughter, who isn't a big meat eater, devoured a whole half a pound of pork lol. My husband got a beef brisket sandwich and shells and cheese which I sampled and they were also fantastic. Great atmosphere, I really liked the music- it wasn't twangy annoying country it was really enjoyable. The owner was awesome, came out and chatted with us. We live about an hour away and it was well worth the drive- I would even go further. We will absolutely be coming back- regularly if I have my way! read more
