I joined Marisa's gym at the beginning of the year. At the time, my goal was to lose weight from what I had gained during the covid lockdowns. At that time I was feeling pretty down and out about my health and well being, I was 61 years old, more than 100 lbs overweight and quickly becoming less and less mobile. I have been coming to HHBM for so many years, I cannot even count (easily over 10). I found Marisa leading an early morning boot camp class when i had my twins 17 years ago and have not stopped following her since. She works very hard to make each day different and yet still give you a full body workout. Over the years I have decided to try places closer to my home, but I always come back to Marisa because she is the best instructor/owner I have ever met. She works with everyone at their level and she will tell you if your form is incorrect so you do not hurt yourself. She provides both an in person classes and recorded classes so you never have an excuse why you could not work out. Virtual Workouts that are FUN and support a local woman-owned gym too! I joined the Happy Hour by Marisa gym that is located up in Kirkland (Totem Lake area) virtually during the pandemic and it has brought me so much joy and I'm actually putting a dent in my pandemic pounds now too. It is such a mental pick me up during these days of isolation, so I thought I would share. The classes are $50 a month unlimited. You can do them live or do them from a library of recorded classes. She has recorded intro classes to help you get ramped up. I have two 3-lb weights and a step bench (because I love her step classes!) and do just fine. She has all kinds of classes, is super body positive, careful about injuries and is just genuinely nice, but also tons of fun! Note: I get nothing for promoting this, but I just love these classes and want to share in case you are looking for a pick me up now that we are entering year 2 of the pandemic! read more

What's great about HHbM during Covid? Live zoom workouts where you are acknowledged for being out in your own garage working hard. Something about being personally called out makes it seems a lot more like being there in person versus doing a library workout. But if you can't make the live class, there are 100's to pick from available 24/7. Marisa's personal touch got me out to my garage just the other night. I wasn't feeling super motivated so I told myself, just get dressed. And then I said login to class. I was on the couch when I heard Marisa call out, Nancy! That doesn't look like your garage! When my good girlfriend invited me to this class for her birthday, I secretively wanted to make up an excuse on how I was going to get out of this "stripper" themed class. But thank god it was nothing like that. 1. it's a no judgment class!!!! 2. it was extremely fun 3. there were a lot of women that just wanted to have fun, and didn't give a shit. All shapes, sizes, and age groups! 4. and for 5 dollars more you can have a drink before class starts :) don't go too wild!!! you still need to drive home! 5. it's not a high heel wearing, pole dancing, lingerie class.!!! thank god! 6. it's like a hip hop/tease/booty shakin' class!!! awesome!!!!! So wear your yoga gear/work out clothes class price : 15 bucks (cash or check) From what I hear, it's once a month and they have other classes that are awesome!! boot camp, and other stuff. Not quite sure but I know that if you were to take any classes from Marisa, I think you'd feel quite comfortable and motivated. Getting older is already hard enough, but having the time to take care of your body is also a challenge. If I weren't so into fitness, I'd totally get into her program to jump start my new healthy life!!!! I might even take it if one of my sisters would do it!!!! Something about having a woman trainer is just more comfortable for me. I don't want a 18 year old girl with abs, and a super high metabolism telling me how to work out. I need a real woman that likes food, and has curves and wants you to have a healthier body. Not a stick skinny body. That's not attractive to me!!! So I totally vouch for this woman, and I had only met her once!!! I can tell she knows her shit! :) All in all, I absolutely wholeheartedly loved this class. I'm super skeptical of your traditional gym - the mirrors are intimidating & I feel like the "super fit" ones are just judging my lack of athleticism.
