Worst experience trying to adopt a cat. I've filled out the application and was approved. I inquired about a cat which was on the website "ready to go home". I was told he was still on medical hold for another week. Therefore I responded back stating that I will check back in a week for him. He was taken off the website for a few days and I checked back and he was on there so I'm assuming he's medically cleared. I emailed AND called to leave a voicemail about setting up a personal meeting with the cat and NO RESPONSE! They were open today and updated their website once again so I know I am intentionally being ignored. OAN, I filled out the application at 12am and the NEXT morning I was approved. I know they texted my references as well. read more

We were just driving to eat at manitou springs and we saw this place and decided to stop in. So glad we did. It's a not profit that is haven for cats mostly helped by volunteers. The cats seem well take care of and you can adopt them. They allow you to freely play with them. They also have a cafe with awesome coffee and lattes and pastries. I had the lavender latte and it was delicious. They also formed a cute cat from the milk froth...very cute. We also got the pumpkin bread and blueberry scone. Both came from the fridge since they source it from an outside bakery but they were still very tasty. Fergie and Laura were so nice! Definitely will be back to play more with the cats. read more

I adopted a cat in November 2024 from the cat cafe in downtown Colorado Springs. When we brought him home we noticed he had lost weight since we visited him in the cafe. Took him to the vet and found out he was in organ failure due to having FIP and we had to let him go. When we reached out to the rescue about this no apology, no ownership for giving us a cat that was dying, no offer for a refund of the adoption charge. Nothing. Would never recommend getting a cat from this rescue. read more

I adopted him in December of 2015 from you guys, and a couple months later found out he had a rare congenital heart defect. Y'all helped me with a gofundme that raised the money to pay for his surgery, and he's still kicking today!! He has helped me through undergrad, he moved to Chicago with me to get my masters degree, and now we're back in Colorado. I absolutely love this organization. I am now a volunteer here, and they have incredible volunteer orientation and training and so many great opportunities for people of different ages, gifts, and experiences. I am super impressed by the integrity of the practices and policies of the staff. I respect that it is a no-kill shelter and they will accept cats that other places might not be able to accept, and patiently work with them (sometimes for years) until the cats are ready for adoption. They also know their boundaries and can't say yes to everything and everyone so their shelter is not overcrowded and is super clean and a really fun place to visit too. There is a great website, and great social media. The events are so creative and so fun. They do things like kitten yoga (which is truly the cutest thing I have ever witnessed), children reading to shelter cats, community education, shy cat training, clicker training, auctions, The Acatemy Awards, The Black Cat Ball, online cooking classes for fundraisers, and so many other things. The people (volunteers and staff) are super cool and welcoming. This is a great place to adopt a cat or kitten (but they are popular so you need to fill out an application early) or to support them by donating, going to their events, volunteering using your gifts (I volunteer with photography, baking, writing thank you notes, supporting events, teaching cooking lessons) or even by just hanging out with their cats to get them used to people- it's called "socializing" and I never thought just hanging out with cats could be a needed volunteer opportunity but it is! :) They always say that what you can offer is "fur da kitties" which I think is adorable and sweet. read more

In January 2022, we adopted RITA, who now goes by Gabby due to her constant, sweet conversations with us. We couldn't be happier with Gabby: she's a lap cat to the max, a people lover, a constant companion, an hysterical comedian, and a true lover of all things. Very caring and compassionate staff with a comfortable facility for cats. The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff were truly great.

Extremely frustrating experience. Went on one of the days that they said they had "walk-in hours" for adoptions. After about 30 minutes of both waiting to be talked to and being "quizzed" on the nature of my daily routine, my other animals, and answers to application questions that didn't sit well with the literal girl working the front desk, I was told that there wasn't a good cat currently at the shelter that would be a good "fit" for me...mind you she was looking at a spreadsheet of cats for notes about them to determine this good "fit". Additionally, after this 30-mintue conversation, if that is what it should be called, I was also told that there were actually no cats that day for adoption and that I should go to the "cat fest". I was extremely frustrated with my experience. I really wanted to support local but this was just irritating and I will never return. read more

Oh boy. There is going to be a lot to unpack here. I adopted a black cat they named Matty. They warned us he pees alot before we adopted him. No biggie. Get him more then one cat box. We took him to go get blood work there. They didn't do the blood work i said i was worried about a possible urinary tract infection. They didn't test him they just gave me the antibiotic for him. Hmm maybe they already knew about that. I get him home and he's tearing out his fur to the point of pulling skin off his bones. He was extremely malnourished. Just fur, skin, and bone when i first saw him. When i came to adopt him the next time I saw him he was pudgy like he was being force fed too fast. I overheard them say when they got him he was 8 pounds. They said the people.who owned him before would let his claws grow into his pads which led to infection. When i got him he was 4 pounds he also had claws going into the pads of his back paw. Anyway i took him to the vet for obvious problems pulling out fur, possible urinary tract infection. Turns out this poor cat is diabettic. Who knows how long he has been living without insulin. After paying almost $400 in vet bills and on insulin. He is doing better. I am working with him on pulling out his fur. I clean and check his paws every day. I clean his cat box every day and totally empty it every two days. I had a feeling they knew all this, but wanted him to die so they didn't have to take care of him. I get him diabetic food and check him every hour. I haven't had more then 5 hours of sleep in 2 weeks. This place is horrible to adopt from. I want them shut down. Im exhausted. My cat is better, but at the cost of my own mental sanity. DO NOT ADOPT FROM THIS PLACE. I beg you. Help me get this place shut down. Who knows what else could be wrong with the cats. read more

I adopted the most loving, adorable kitty named Earl Grey from Happy Cats! The 3 month year old came neutered, had his vaccinations (except for rabies, because we had to wait till he was at least 4 months), a microchip, and gave us half off on their scratching post and starter kit for kitties (litter box, food, litter, cat carrier..etc). We came in at just the right time to get our Earl, and we feel so lucky to have him! They treat the cats very well here and I will most definitely be recommending them to anyone looking for a cat or kitten. read more

We stopped by Happy Cats a while ago looking for a new kitty. If you've ever been to any other shelters or the Humane Society, you know that they can be bleak places. Happy Cats is not like that at all! It's a small but beautiful facility where cats are kept in clean rooms with cat walks and plenty of hiding places. The staff and volunteers there are friendly and knowledgable and seem to vet potential adoptive pet parents very thoroughly. You can tell they are committed to finding homes for special needs and older cats and matching each kitty with the perfect family. The shelter is clean, the staff is kind and friendly, and it's very obvious that the cats here are given the BEST possible care and treatment while waiting to find their furrever home. Happy Cats Haven is just that: a wonderful no-kill cat shelter with loving & dedicated staff caring for our feline friends until they find their forever home! In December 2011, we had a very positive experience adopting our Maine coon big boy (Loki), who now has us wrapped around his sizable paws! The staff try very hard to give prospective adopters as much as info as possible about each cat's temperament & needs so that both humans & kitties can find a good fit in each other. Happy Cats also keeps their website current & posts a lot of details about each cat to make it easier to narrow your search; in addition, when I called to inquire about Loki, the staff spent about 90 minutes on the phone with me answering all my questions. It is not as large as some of the other shelters in the region, but this gives it a cozy & welcoming environment. (It is also meticulously clean). Unfortunately, I cannot post a better review. The volunteers are great, but the kitten I brought home was first labeled 7 mos old, then 5 mos old (more cost, but the volunteer did adjust this). She came home on the wrong food, adding $70 cost for the "free visit" to the vet, and there was no "chip" as advertised, nor any record she had been given worming medicine. Got a voicemail from the owner saying I was "approved to adopt" after I had already taken the kitten home. When I called the shelter to check if other kittens were ill, I overheard the owner/manager saying "Yeah we had several kittens sent home on the wrong food and now with vomiting and diarrhea and blah, blah, blah," [quote] blamed her volunteers, and called the correct food "the crappy stuff." [quote] Yesterday (during re-chipping) I was again offered the wrong food and the volunteer told me the shelter had "f****d up." [quote]. The kitten is better today, but I had a very scary week for an issue that could have been totally avoided. Won't use this shelter again, or recommend it. read more

I went to Happy Cats Haven's Open House in November, attended a volunteer orientation in December and began volunteering there in January. On February 6, I adopted beautiful Maggie Mae, one of the shelter's cats. I am so impressed with HCH. The staff truly loves cats and insures that each cat brought to the facility is well-cared for and safe in a clean, stimulating environment. They not only meet the needs of each of the cats in condo living, but make sure that their newly adopted home will be a perfect match for them. As a volunteer, I can see firsthand the staff's dedication to findng a forever home, for some of the residents have heartbreaking backgrounds. Happy Cats Haven has been an incredible resource to our family, and has now assisted us on two separate occasions in finding the perfect kitty companions to complete our home.
