JIm patiently answered my many questions during the inspection. He found eleven areas where things were wrong with the property, like deck stairs displaced off the concrete base, balusters toe nailed to the deck, deteriorated mortar, a retaining wall without drainage holes, exterior lights that functioned intermittently, failing smoke detectors, a slow draining sink, sump pump problems, and a glass window in a door to the garage that would not be in code if it were built today. He warned me that the pressure relief pipe on the water heater didn't go all the way to the floor, presenting a potential scalding hazard. He also pointed out how to make minor improvements to the breaker box, and pointed out how some breakers were designed to be double-tapped (two wires going to a single breaker). The furnace filter was installed backwards, but he recommended getting a new one instead of rotating the old one because that would blow dust into the house. His report warned of a kitchen vent blowing air through a hole in the siding instead of through a metal vent. He had an amazing piece of equipment that I started calling Predator Vision when he showed me a heat-sensing mode that looked like the eyesight of the titular monster in the Schwarzenegger movie. In one black and white mode, it could even see the studs in the wall and the heat from my foot prints on the carpet. He was able to see that the attic insulation had blown back a little from the eaves, while standing inside the house, but said it was OK because it was out over the soffts. The report was clear, had photos with arrows pointing to problems, and had no misspellings or grammar errors. read more

My wife and I are first-time home buyers and we had Hanson inspect the house we are buying. When we arrived for the inspection, Jim and Thad were both there and had most of the inspection already done. They were extremely thorough and walked us through what they had found and their thoughts on what we should do. They were both obviously very knowledgeable, they were professional, courteous, and exceptionally patient with us as we dragged them through our new homeowner-type questions. Also, we were able to get our official written report from them the same day. I can't recommend these guys highly enough and will definitely be using them again as the need arises. Thanks Jim and Thad! read more

I cannot recommend him enough. As a buyer- his very thorough home inspection gave us peace of mind. He had noted things that we missed in our walk throughs. He checked even the little things like all outlets and made sure the doors worked. Everything was very easy from the buyers perspective- ordered it, paid online, got the inspection sent to us the same day via email. read more

Jim Hanson and his co-worker were very professional, friendly and informative in their inspection of my condo. They were also conscientious of the coronavirus restrictions and had masks and soap. It was a great experience with Hanson for first time homeowners. They did a thorough inspection on the outside to the inside. Gave us feedback on somethings that might need some TLC in the next couple years. The price was comparable to anyone else and couldn't ask for better feedback on the house we are going to buy! read more
