Very cute and quiet coffee/cake spot. I happened to walk past this place on my first day of my trip to Madrid, where I saw the cakes through the window and could smell the coffee aroma. I returned a few days later, and it did not disappoint! The pistachio cheesecake was creamy without being too sweet, and the hojicha latte had a nice nutty flavor to it. I was jet lagged and stumbled upon this place while looking at Yelp in the morning. I opted to order the Banana Coffee and Salmon Breakfast Bagel, which came out to roughly $22 USD. The coffee itself looked amazing, taste wise I would say it's good not great. I wish it had more banana sweetener or was creamier, but that's probably my American taste buds talking. Review: Came here to grab a quick brunch and was really happy with our decision. Looks like a typical hipster coffee shop but the food and staff are amazing. Staff were friendly and polite and we received our food fairly quickly even though they were swamped. We ordered their red velvet latte, iced coconut latte, B.L.A.T, and their avocado toast with smoked salmon and omelette. All of it was delicious. The bread was toasted perfectly and very fresh. Overall my experience at Hanso cafe was okay. The prices were high compared to surrounding cafes. The service was okay and they initially made my oat milk matcha with cows milk, but corrected the mistake when asked. I would recommend trying the hazelnut ducha avocado toast! The ambiance of this cafe was amazing, it was cozy yet modern and had an open area for seating. We instantly were able to find a table in the corner. The menu had interesting Korean inspired Brunch options, it was really fun reading about the different fusion dishes. The Kimchi and Bacon Sandwich kept me full and had thick cut toasted bread with a melted layer of cheese over the bacon and kimchi. Each bite was both sweet and sour from the kimchi and was something I've never tried before. I ordered an iced matcha latte with oat milk which tasted like a typical matcha where the oatmilk overpowered the matcha. My friend ordered the Smoked Salmon & Soba Noodles which looked super hearty and refreshing. My other friend also ordered a Kimchi and Bacon Sandwich however, her order was lost and we spoke with a staff. Her order came out shortly after that but it did take a while to find an available employee in that moment. Came right when they opened and there was no line, but boy, half an hour later the line was out the door and there was no room to sit. Menus are QR codes on the table. The coffee and bakery menus are behind the counter. Got the red velvet and matcha lattes and both were really tasty. The latte art was so cute! We got the brioche sandwich with the turkey ham option and I wish I got the bacon, because I felt the turkey ham was just average. Bacon would've added an extra crunch to it. We also got a matcha waffle which was gigantic. Fruit on top were fresh. Everything was very photogenic and the whole cafe is aesthetically pleasing. They also have great music. Saw a couple pups in the cafe while we were there, which was nice of them to allow because I heard a lot of places that sell food/drinks don't allow pets inside. However, it can definitely get crowded, so plan in advance. I got the white matcha and the cup was huge! It tasted not too sweet and was perfectly comforting. There's a wide selection of toasts and bagels and I opted for the Iberian ham and arugula avocado toast with sesame oil. Definitely recommend coming here! Everything is delicious, even if it takes a little bit to come out. Not much of the staff speaks English so if you're a tourist be prepared for that, you should be able to get by if you know basic Spanish though. I really appreciated that they have multiple menus out in different languages so that you're able to understand what you're ordering down to all the ingredients. The drinks came out really fast. This little coffee shop was in the neighborhood we were staying so we conveniently came here for breakfast and there was a line of people eating while standing since the place was completely packed. The space is small and narrow but they packed the place with as many seats as they could so get cozy with your neighbors! It's the small price to pay for such a cute and delicious coffee shop. My husband ordered the bacon, cheese, egg, avocado bagel sandwich with a latte and I ordered an avocado toast with green tea latte. Good flatwhite. A sign said they use Nomad coffee, which was cool because the Nomad shop I tried to visit in Barcelona was closed. Their milk tea was also good, on the sweeter side and very comforting. Didn't try their cakes, but the cookie we got with our drinks was yummy. 10 euro for 2 drinks, a Perrier, and the cookie. This has been the best espresso I have had in Spain. The Barista was very knowledgeable over his Single Origin Beans, accommodating in conversation, and obviously very passionate about his product. It was quite busy during the time of our visit and the patrons looked like primarily international uni students. Lotsa people were on their laptops doing work. Café was pretty full. We ordered a Matcha Latté and a salad w/ Avocado/Tofu. Matcha Latté was extremely weak. We have some great Asian cafés in Toronto, so this drink did not even compare. Dare I say that Starbucks has even more flavour? Luckily, the Salad was tastier than I expected! So that was good. Portion was pretty shareable. While looking for a coffee shops in Madrid, I came across Hanso Cafe. The reviews were nothing but spectacular and the photos looked aesthetically pleasing. So my friend and I decided to stop in for some coffee and a bite to eat. My friend ordered (her opinions): - Red Velvet Latte w/ Oat Milk: she was skeptical about this latte assuming it would be overly sweet, but to her surprise it had the perfect amount of sweetness while still able to taste hints of coffee and chocolate. - Savory Oatmeal: topped with cheese, baby arugula, and a sunny side up egg. She thought the flavors worked well with each other, but didn't appreciate a slice of cheese just laid on top of the oatmeal. It was still hard and gave the dish a weird process taste. - Half Red Velvet & Half Matcha Bread: the red velvet part of the bread had a decent hint of red velvet flavor while the matcha part of the bread didn't taste like anything. The extremely disappointing part was the bread was also super dry and crumbly. I ordered: - Matcha Latte w/ Oat Milk: this latte was super disappointing. There was zero matcha flavor so it was like drinking water down oat milk. - Matcha Waffle w/ Condense Milk: the waffle was again lacking matcha flavor and was more on the dry side. The condense milk and fresh fruits definitely helped with getting the waffle down. - Torta de Matcha: this came out fresh from the kitchen, so I definitely needed to give this a try. I am not a huge fan of red beans, but what the heck. The texture of the cake was smooth and creamy, but, you guessed it, lacked matcha flavor. The red beans took over the whole flavor profile of the cake. With such praised reviews, my expectations for their matcha flavored items were high. I know matcha has a subtle flavor profile, but I have been and tried many places who have done matcha right. If you are looking for some good matcha flavored items, this is not the place. read more
