I would give zero stars if possible. Obviously, David, the owner of this business must be quite busy and therefore, is not concerned with being hired for more jobs. I originally met with him in May and we had a nice conversation about my plans to renovate my backyard around my pool- from transplanting some Emerald Green trees that he confirmed were too closely planted, planting new landscape around the perimeter and installing pavers. He was kind, knowledgeable and listened to my ideas so I thought we were on the same page. I told him I could not afford to do everything at once so I needed to work in phases, which he said was fine- he would itemize things on the proposal accordingly. After I called a few times, I was sent the proposal weeks later on June 26th. He quoted $600 to transplant my (18) Emerald green trees, $650 to plant a new maple tree and $2850 to plant 3 Green Giants. Some time went by, as he said he was quite busy, he didn't have a maple tree in stock currently and I said I wasn't in a huge rush so anytime before winter was fine. I am not a fan of the green giants so I requested a new proposal on October 3rd without those included. His secretary, Maria removed the $2850 and sent a new copy of the proposal right away, which I signed and sent back on October 6th as requested. They said they would set up a time in the next 2 weeks to come do the work. Then on October 19th, Maria emailed to say prices needed to be redone since David had not been to the property since May. (Why this was not stated before the revised contract was sent to me indicates poor transparency between employees.) My husband called and set up a meeting at our home. He was running late and contacted David's son, Daniel who was coming to meet him, (despite not being involved in the original appraisal of the project). Daniel said he could wait a little bit for my husband, but my neighbor confirmed he did not stay longer than a couple of minutes and missed seeing him. A new proposal was sent on October 26th with a revised $750 for the maple and $2550! for transplanting the Emerald Greens. Obviously I was flabbergasted as to why the pricing was nearly 4x the original amount. When asked, David told me that is expensive to bring equipment out so they do everything together (not in phases as we originally talked about) -or else the cost is significantly more. David also stated that we originally only talked about moving 5 trees, not all of them. (Note that there were no specifics on either proposal about how many would be transplanted.) I'm pretty sure I could remove the trees and buy all new ones for less than $2550. When I tried to explain my reasoning on the phone with David today, he said "I understand that but that is our price." I'm not sure what he understands since he was not willing to hear me out or be more rational in his pricing. I can accept paying a little more but that's some pretty exorbitant inflation for 3 and a half months time. The only thing I can assume is that Hans Landscaping is not interested in doing business with anyone who isn't willing to spend a great deal of money all in one lump sum. I am so disappointed as I really felt good about working with them when we first met. I waited for their convenience to do my job and now I have to find another landscaper. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Find a landscaper who is willing to care about all customers, remember what was agreed upon and stick to their word rather than seeing everyone as a dollar sign. read more
