I went here for a work outing. This bowling ally was cleaner and brighter than most. The pin clearing device worked 100% of the time as well as the score keeping software. Terrible customer service - avoid this place. Went last night with friends and had an awful experience from the moment we walked in. Despite a sign clearly stating the alley was open for another 90 minutes, staff immediately told us we could only play one game and rushed us the entire time. When we picked out a few bowling balls to try (perfectly normal at any alley), an employee aggressively snatched them out of our hands and said we "had too many balls." The staff was rude, unwelcoming, and seemed annoyed that customers were even there. We felt like we were inconveniencing them rather than being paying guests. I went here with my girlfriend and some friends. We found the place to have a nice price. We had 5 people and paid $60 for the first game and $35 for the second. In total for 5 people we paid $95, which allowed us to play 2 full games that added up to about 2 hours of playing. Comparing to Bowlero this is a decent price. Came back for the nostalgic feeling where the staffs are extra nice and the drinks/food are cheap! My coworkers and I decided to come here to bowl after work and it was a great decision! The group consisted of people who bowl on a regular basis and people (the majority) who haven't touched the bowling balls in ages. Let me tell you about my favorite part, the staffs were so welcoming and helpful. Upon getting our lanes and shoes, I could tell that they were so accommodating especially when we have new add-ons for the people who came later. My second favorite part was the price of the drinks. I don't think you can get a glass bottle of decent beer for less than $3-4, unless you really try catching happy hour somewhere else. We bought shots too and all in all, we were happy with the bill. This is a pretty solid place overall. Pretty well maintained place, and reasonably priced at $6 a game for adults and $4 for children. Shoe rentals are priced the same ($6 and $4 respectively). $40 total for 3 games and show rentals was a pretty good deal and a good way to spend 2 hours on a rainy day. They added a really nice personal touch on the way out when they asked my son how he enjoyed himself. When he told them it was his first time bowling, the guys "I'll be right back" and returns to give my son $5 worth of tokens on the house to play some arcade games. The bowling alley is open until 11pm, but Ines yells at us every time we come saying she wants to go home early and does not want to accommodate us. She called us "ret@rded" in front of me to her coworker, complaining about the extra work. Each time more than half the bowling alley is open. Our groups only need 3-4 lanes. We have been and would have continued to be providing $250-$500 in weekly business to the bowling alley. As soon as we walk in, Ines greets us with a very rude attitude. She yells, she complains, and she talks in a very condescending way to us. I'm very disappointed and upset. We do not want to come back. So this is the only nearby bowling alley near me and it's been my go to place ever since i could ever think of so i never really thought much of this place...until i started to drive and go bowling at other places. Now THAT made me rethink how i feel about this place LOL. So besides the nostalgia that comes with bowling here for so long, there's really not much to this place. It's been here for ages and it shows. Everything is not in that great shape and it's definitely time for them to get new equipment; such as shoes or bowling balls, but i get that they're expensive so they're holding off on that (well until it breaks i guess). The space itself is big so you can definitely hold parties and parking isn't a situation because it's so big so size is definitely not a problem. Unless you're a professional bowler and you're really picky about where you bowl, you shouldn't really have a problem here. I'm only saying this because the lanes are oiled up differently so you should rotate out if you're competing because it definitely wouldn't be fair if one lane was better than another. The only other reason why i like this place is because of all the deals that they have. Depending on the season we are in, this place has a season deal for each day of the week (or at least most days of the week) so that if you go on that particular day at a particular time, there's a HUGE discount that you can get, which makes bowling actually worth it. Otherwise, if you go on peak time or on a holiday when the discount is not offered, bowling is definitely extremely overly priced and not worth the fun that can happen at a much lower price. I only recommend this place if it's: a-close to you b-if you're going during the discounted days c-if you have a big group and use the group rate d-if you have your own shoes and only want to play 1 or 2 games otherwise, save your money and go elsewhere! read more

I wanted to like Hanover Lanes and was having a good time up until halfway through our first game when 2 male staff came over and spoke to me in an inappropriate and belittling tone. One of them was literally in my face about the 3 balls we had stuck in our gutter. My son is 7 and wasn't throwing with enough power at first so they got stuck. We knew not move them ourselves and figured we would say something after we finished our game. However, your employee was barking at me saying I had put the staff in danger and how this could injure others around me even though no one was within 5 lanes of us on either side. At other establishments they nicely come around and move the bowling balls without making me feel as though I have committed some crime. We were going to play another game but decided after that we were done. My youngest also really wanted to use the arcade on the way out and there was still 30 minutes till closing. But I was told by the female attendant that I only had 10 minutes so I said okay. However, as we were trying to play some of the games she was literally unplugging them and turning the power off. She kept scowling and glaring at us and kept reiterating that we needed to leave even though it still wasn't 10. This is a place that wants everyone out 30 minutes before closing so they can be out by 10. Not the paying customer gets to stay for the hours they say are operational. Don't worry, based on how I was treated, I will never be coming back. Wish I had read the other reviews because they reiterated the poor customer service. read more

This is a no-frills, family oriented bowling alley. With 32 lanes, usually the wait is reasonable if you are bowling during a busier time. It is quite loud inside, and although apparently they have done some renovations recently, it is still a bit outdated. We are not good bowlers and usually take the kids, so this place is more than adequate for us. The prices are pricey. However, if you want a deal, you can go online and sign up for their strikers club. This gives you a discount coupon to start, specials for birthdays, and email notification for discounts during their slower hours. I have not tried their food. When we were here in early January, the refreshments were closed and the vending machine didn't work. Today, all looked to be open and fixed, but we definitely didn't come hungry because of our previous experience. No open/combined tab here that would make the payment better, you have to pay for what you order upfront. And receipts for work (itemized) can be tough. Note that this is no-frills, but very easy to bowl and play at ; even with league night on Wednesday, they had 6 lanes off towards the entry as first-come, first-serve. Pizza and wings were enthusiastically devoured by the team, and the fried pickles were of interest to some. If you get the tenders, have them put the sauce to the side (otherwise smothered and hard to eat with fingers). read more

I had brought a group bowling team here weekly to practice and Jeff (staff member) is real cool. Doing big teams like this was a headache and other alleys were less accomodating or had rude staff. They don't sulk if the lanes act up and we call on them or wouldn't be quick to hit the ceiling if if my bowlers would act out s bit. The arcade is nice but the bar and food area isn't as good as the other alleys. It's also a bit high. Still definitely my preferred alley. read more

I work with the disabled. They are usually busy on Saturdays so I called ahead of time and was told to come in and join the waiting list; I could not join the list via the phone. I traveled with my consumers 25 minutes to the facility just for them to say we aren't taking anyone else on the waitlist. When I proceeded to let her know her staff should notify people ahead of time so they don't just travel out, she disregarded me. My consumers were very disappointed and the manager just couldn't care less about the inconvenience. If it weren't for my job sending me here I would NEVER come to this place. I also refuse to take anyone I know on my personal time here. I want to be treated respectfully at the place I choose to spend my money. read more

God Awful! If you like being lied to and being served at a snails pace, this is the place for you. As advertised, this establishment closes at 11pm on Friday nights. So at 9:34pm, my group of four 30+ year olds asked for 2 games each and rental shoes, to which the attendant said that he could give us one (1) game each. As a group of mature adults, we completed this One game in under 20 minutes. So we went back to the cashier to add another game each at 10:05pm. The employee that was now at the register was a small, short haired woman who wanted no part in a discussion as to the speed of our play, that we have all bowled in leagues in the past, nor the fact that I was insisting that our 2nd game would be completed before 10:30pm and that she would have no problem closing before 11pm as she was so adamant about doing. She then proceeded to back away from the counter while yelling at me that she couldn't add another game to our lane; and while backing up, she hopped to her right and picked up a cordless phone that was not ringing, lied to my face and acted like she was talking to someone on the other end of the phone that she couldn't hear. (As she was saying: "Hello, hello sir, hello, I can't hear you can you speak up...") At this point I walked away laughing at this situation and went to close our our bar tab. Then while at the bar, I was one of 3 people initially standing there, when 6 other people walked up and stood at the bar to get their final order in and close their tabs as well. The young lady working the bar proceeded to serve and close all 8 people around the bar, and served a kitchen worker her shot of Hennessy, without once looking my direction to be served. Finally, 10 minutes later, after closing our tab and receiving our beverages, from 10:17pm until 10:40pm, we stood in our lane's area and finished our drinks... While finishing these beverages in that time, we found out that the group of 4 adults to our right in the next lane, (who came in at 10:00pm) were allowed to buy 2 games each for their group... This place caters toward the young and dumb crowd (15 and under, really), and doesn't give a whit about actual bowlers. It's also expensive per game, but that's because the rich Livingston kids can come pay with Mommy's money. The same guy has worked the desk for years. He seems nice at first, but trust me, he's really not. He put me on a list. "How long will that take?" "Well, there are three people ahead." "But how long, about, in minutes?" "There are three people." A half hour later, I left, and no names had been called. That's characteristic of these lanes. I bowled in a league here once. Big mistake. We rented out a few lanes for two hour for some pre New Years Eve afternoon fun. Every lane was booked for the special event. Balloons decorated the lanes. New Year's Eve party hats, beads, horns were given out. It was super fun! When we booked, there was an option to add a pizza and pitcher of soda for $20 as part of the special event. Would have been a good deal because we ended up getting a pizza for $20 so the soda would have been free. Pizza was bowling alley pizza (as you would expect) but they nicely cut into 16 pieces for us so everyone had a little taste to tide us over. Tater tots were better. Cups of Bud Light were $4. This place was actually nicer than I expected from the reviews. This is your average mom and pop bowling alley but has been kept up pretty well. One thing that surprised me when walking in were the giant screens playing pop music videos. It gave a nice vibe to the place. I came here with my partner on a snowy Saturday for some fun. I will warn you, there were A LOT of kids. This can be great or not so great depending on what you're looking for. The games are $5.50 per game/per person. If you have a large party this can get pretty expensive but is great value for a small group. My bowling lane had no technical issues and it was easy setup. Seating is kind of tight especially if you have bowlers on each side of you. I had no issue with staff anything out of the ordinary. I didn't try any of the food but they do have a bar for adults. I will return but maybe later in the day when there aren't as many children. read more

Bowling is supposed to be fun but the workers at this place have consistently treated me and my family like 3rd-class citizens. I will never come here again. I would rather drive an additional 10 minutes to Hudson Lanes in Jersey City or another local facility, where everyone is treated fairly. Note that we recently spent over $1000 in equipment, shoes, bags, etc. from the owner of the pro shop at Hanover and Hudson Lanes, Kurt, who is a terrific person. The last 3 times that my family and I visited this establishment were Sundays and each time, there were teenage boys behind the counter. The schedule at door and on the website says that the establishment is open on Sunday from 12-8PM. The first time, my family and I arrived at 7:00PM and maybe 5 lanes were in use. We were told that no more lanes were being given out as the closing time was 8 o'clock. I told them that we would stop bowling at 7:45 but were sent away. The second time, we arrived at 6:30 on Sunday and came behind a Caucasian family, who were given a lane. However, again we were told that no more lanes were being issued this time because of COVID. WTF??? What did that have to do with anything? If this was the case, then why even open the lanes? This last time (today, March 6, 2022), my son and I came in at 5:00 with our bowling bags in tow. We bought 7 games (prepaid). Normally, when we buy a lane per game, we play a practice game where both of us take turns bowling a frame apiece and then bowl 3 games each. We set up our single "PRACTICE" game and on our 3rd frame, one of the teenagers from the counter comes to us and tells us that we cannot play a single game but must have 2 players posted on the screen if there are 2 of us at the lane. Again.... WTF??? I explained what we were doing and that we were going to change over to 2 single bowlers right after our practice game. We were told that this was not allowed. What does it matter anyway? I paid for games already, follow all house rules and etiquette and still, I am treated like I am breaking the law. Why can I not bowl a practice game? Why does it matter how we post the games as long as both of us were bowling? It's not like it would take longer for us to finish! I asked to talk to the manager, Skylar, who told me over the phone that we were supposed post each bowler. It seemed like no one was listening. Finally, Skylar told me that we could finish our practice game. At the same time, there was a group of 6 boys on the adjoining lane who were clearly on the "spectrum," and who stood on the approach area the whole time we were there. While they were harmless, albeit a bit distracting. We had to keep asking them not to use our personal bowling balls. Although we complained to the front desk about them congregating on the lane, not once did the attendants come over to ask the group of boys to come off the approach. In fact, we did not witness any of the attendants warn anyone else for any infraction. In reflecting on the 3 separate occasions where we were treated so unfairly by unsupervised teenagers, I also noticed that there were no other Asians in the building.
