I cannot say enough good things about this place. My son is an ice hockey goalie and his leg pads and glove/blocker are very expensive. Took a pair of Cabelas hunting boots http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Insulated-Kangaroo-Featherlight-Boots/748623.uts in to have the soles re-glued where they were starting to separate at the toe tip. The guy agreed to re-glue them. Got them back with stitching through the entire front half and a black leather patch (the boots are green leather) sewed on the side of one boot (the boot DID NOT have a hole in the side when I dropped it off). Between the stitching and the patch, the waterproof feature of these boots is completely destroyed. I'd have been better off fixing them myself with some Shoe Goo glue. read more

I've been going here for years--even when I worked downtown, I couldn't find a shoe repair shop that a)didn't charge an arm and a leg or b) took forever for your drop off. When I started working in Covington, I went to Frenchman's based on reviews of the attorneys I worked with, but the old man died and then his son or whoever took over didn't do the same work so we were all "without" for a time. Then I found Hanlin. Located in one of the oldest strip malls in Florence, between what used to be Frisch's (and is now a Mexican restaurant) and Burger King, it's a little 1/2 store front that you could miss very easily. They do quality work and timely work, very reasonably. My boss, a very picky man about dry cleaning and other matters won't go to anyone else now to resole his shoes. In this era of "making do" as opposed to buying new, I've been completely amazed at their services. Resoling, reheeling, new zippers, reglueing, leatherwork. Not just shoes, but purses, too. The most I've spent there is $15.00 on 7 items. Yep, 4 pairs of shoes (some to be reheeled, some to have zippers fixed, a pair to be reglued, and 3 purses--stitiching, zipper, cleaning) and it only came to $15.00. My husband always feels bad when he picks up an item of mine and it only costs $3. He feels like he should tip! Still a necessity, a shoe repair shop--this is a good one. read more

I have expensive $200 boots that have become uncomfortable over time. I took them in to see the cobbler in the hopes that he could help make them comfortable again. I offered that I would even be interesting in resoling them with a more comfortable sole. He said he didn't want to do that to save me money and said that he would put an insole into my boots to help my feet out. So I leave my boots there for a few days and come back to pick them up only to find that he's literally just put a cheap sole insert that I could have easily picked up at Walmart into my boots. Uh...I thought at the very least he would use some shoe wizardry to do something I was incapable of. The only reason I'm not giving this hope a 1 star review is because he did shine my shoes up real nice....but he was so lazy, he didn't take out the laces to shine the tongue of the boot! I had to come home and try to do that myself in the attempt to make them look better. read more

I had an incident where the toungue of my hockey skates had ripped out from the boot. Had another game in 2 days and had no clue what to do or where to go. Thinking it was a long shot, I called Hanlin and they said bring it on up! As I had to work the next morning my wife took my skate up to drop it off and they were so nice to her they even glued and fixed her shoe for free before she left! Wow... It's things like those that earn lifetime customers. I know exactly where to go when my fingers rip out the side of my gloves as I bet they can fix that too. I have a pair of heels that were in great condition but the elastic part of the buckle was stretched and worn. I brought my shoes to get fixed and they did a great job! It only costed $8 and they completed the job as promised, in two days. The employees were friendly and they also have an adorable cat that hangs out in the lobby. My new elastic on my heels look better than when I first bought the shoes!! Overall great experience I would recommend this shoe repair shop. read more

The prices beat anywhere I have been. They do great work and are very honest. I thought I needed my entire shoe re-crafted last time I was in. They talked me out of it, informing me that I still had plenty of wear on the sole. They could have just done it and charged me. Very happy with them. Hands down, the best "cobbler" in the area...maybe world. I have been using this family owned business for over 25 years. There is nothing that the owner's cannot work their magic on. Shoes, saddles, suitcases, purses..just to name a few. When you get your items back you will need to take a double take to make sure it is the same items you brought them. Your shoes will have a better polish on them than the day you purchased them. I am in awe of their expertise. Wow, there aren't many stores like this any more. We have used them for over 10 years and were thrilled to find someone that could repair our shoes/purses, etc with excellence. I went in last week and asked Drema to repair a boot strap on my favorite pair of boots. I was ready to leave it with her and she said, 'Well I can just staple that right now why you wait." After that she wouldn't even let me pay her a dime though I kept insisting. I have used them for years and will continue to. They have also repaired my husband's belt and a leather purse for me. While the work may be great (I wouldn't know) the attitude of the cobbler is terrible. The first time I went to ask about repairing a zipper on a boot, I was lectured that I needed to take better care of my boots (these boots are 12 years old and the one I took in still has the original zipper). The second encounter with the cobbler, he tossed a zipper slide at me. If you're the only cobbler in the area I suppose you can get away with poor customer service, but I will never return. read more
