I could tell that other providers thought more was going on, but Dr. Torchinsky actually did something about it and pointed me to other specialists who could help me. Not only is there no appt for today, but I'm not in the system at all. She was unapologetic and just told me that Dr. Miya is out with Covid anyway. If there is this sort of incompetence for a new patient, imagine what it's like for the established patients! Your office staff could use an evaluation, Dr. Miya. They're costing you business and making your office look really bad. If anyone in this office cares (which I highly doubt), the call and appointment were made on Wednesday May 3rd at 11:30 AM. More than a month wasted, waiting to see Dr. Miya.

I came to this clinic with MRI-confirmed disc injuries, including annular fissures and mild canal narrowing at C5-C7, along with persistent cervical pain that had not responded to conservative care. I had completed physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, massage, and multiple rounds of medication. Early in my treatment, a cervical epidural steroid injection (CESI) was presented as a next step if symptoms continued. I followed through with everything recommended. When my symptoms persisted, I expressed that I was ready to move forward with the CESI and made it clear that cost would not be a barrier--I was willing to pay cash. Despite this, the CESI was then walked back with shifting justifications: first citing cost, then later saying the disc bulges were "too small," even though the imaging findings had been available for weeks and hadn't changed. There has been no new information medically--only a changing explanation that doesn't align with the original plan of care. As a patient, this experience has been frustrating. If the provider or clinic is simply uncomfortable with performing the procedure, that should be communicated clearly and early--not repositioned after the patient agrees to proceed. I'm seeking a second opinion elsewhere and hope this review encourages a more transparent and consistent approach for future patients.

He called when I was free, and in chatting with me he realized that it had been a rough road for me over the last couple of months and was eager to help. He suggested that I actually come into his office the next day instead(!). Fast forward to appt time, he took my lengthy history of sinus issues, persistent coughing, constant congestion, the works. You could almost see the wheels turn as he tried to put the puzzle pieces together to proactively help me with all of my symptoms that I was experience and figure out the best solution to alleviate them for me. He spent 70 minutes with me, listening, talking, allergy testing, asthma testing to get to the bottom of it. In this day and age when doctors cutting appointments short is rampant, it was so refreshing to be heard and to feel like I had an expert in my corner who wanted to help me feel better as much as I did.

I asked the receptionist if I missed seeing the doctor because of his inability to process my blue cross insurance, and he said yes. I was in utter disbelief. Their website does not reflect that the doctor goes on lunch for over an hour, there are no signs in the office reflecting this, and he didn't tell me this up front, so I waited for 15 minutes for no reason. I took off work for this, and was unable to wait until 1pm to be seen. Unreal. This gap in service needs to be advertised, as this is something that a patient can plan around. It is absurd that I was told to wait for over an hour when I could have been informed of this gap in service for the doctor's lunch before I left work and planned accordingly. I went to the Mission Valley location instead as recommended by the receptionist, since "they have two doctors instead of just one." Mission Valley figured out my insurance card in literally 5 seconds as all doctor's offices have. I won't return to this Hillcrest location, but if you choose to go there, don't go between 11:45am and 1pm!!

I had an appointment at the Shiley Eye Institue. It was July of 2025 and there was a lot of construction going on at the campus which made it even more difficult to navigate. I found a parking structure and parked, only to find out that there is no validation and it was $7 for three hours. I was put off a bit. Health care is damned expensive, now you're going to gouge me for an additional seven bucks? C'mon! On top of that, I was constantly checking the time, hoping that three hours was enough. (It was, I was back in my car with 17 minutes to spare). I wandered around a bit before I finally found where I was going. The sprawling campus has some signage, but a "You are here" directory like malls have would be really helpful. After my appointment at Shiley, I had to go to the lab. Even after getting directions, it took me a few minutes of wandering around before I found it.

To the many doctors and nurses for the many that work at this location the many times that I have come the many faces of the interns and the ones just coming out after long hours some of the best doctors and nurses there are many that are working their way up the ladder. I just had a procedure that took place on Monday that was needed to replace a specialized battery which over many years from the wear and tear it had run down. From the condition I have I go through epileptic seizures which had been a great medical and disabling condition with the VNS Implant that I was given and had Implanted. When you have surgery, you can go at so many hours from the late in the afternoon to the early hours and the early morning hours from the early 500am. For many of you never had to get up at 5:00am for many of you that is the earliest only construction people that get up at the time to get ready for work. With many surgeries you can't have blood thinners or have vitamins before you have surgery one thing that I take daily was aspirin to help prevent heart attacks. On the early morning hours, I had a ride pick me up at my house yes, the mornings can be cold for some and for others it's one of the best wake ups in the morning to have a surgical process the results go different ways. When I had arrived at the Hospital it was about 5:00am in the morning there was a few people that were waiting at the desk having to check in at the desk when you come to the UCSD Medical Center in La Jolla I was greeted by the surgical staff was checked in at the desk and had to check with the main desk. The main lobby of the UCSD Hospital is one that is of the best in design and the hospital can be one that has designer furniture and the large windows that give you the wide looks of the main campus and the many surgical centers that are close by. it long When I was taken to the second floor where I was directed where the surgical center and the many people that were waiting for the appointment times. When you come to the surgical center you don't have to wat long they take right in where they can get you ready. UCSD Medical Surgical center is one of the largest when you come to the second the staff they ask if you if have eaten anything that is nothing after 1200am and nothing to drink. The type of surgery you have are greeted by the doctors and the surgery nurses they take your vitals and get you ready to have the IV procedure readied for surgery. To the great staff at the surgical floor that has helped me get through the long surgical process when they take you to surgery you may be given a prep injection the surgical centers, they have been some of the best with many of them can be very cold. The treatment that I had received was the best from the surgical nurses they stayed with me through the prep process and when they brought me back to the recovery room. For many people that have had surgery there is so much you go through and the support that you get from the caring staff I want to say thank you for your support and your life saving help which helped me get through one of the most important surgeries. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer this has been one of the greatest experiences and the many nurses and surgical staff which came and saw me there was one thing, I saw so much care and support for when you have people that monitored your sleep asked to have you started walking. The main thing that I can say is that the UCSD is one center as part of the Hospital is one of the best surgical departments very welcoming.

This place is down the road, I have issues driving long distances (I also have a disability) so I figured I could get this test done and out of the way and not have to waste money and time going further away. When I made my appointment I called to check that they would do an EKG and a test they can do. I was assured yes they do them all the time. I ended up rescheduling to come in earlier and took time off work. When I arrived the lobby was dirty and the furniture was dirty and had rips and marks on it. First sign I should have left. The staff were not friendly and seemed disappointed they were there which was also a red flag I ignored. Then they asked me to pay $199 then $120 after the EKG. I thought this was the most confusing thing, I have been to urgent cares before and health centers and have never done that. But then they start asking why I need it. First, not sure why it matters, or why it was their business, I am going to pay for it I don't have insurance. My provider even said it shouldn't be a big deal I could get one anywhere. So I pay the $199 and wait another 10min after waiting 20min already. Then they brought me back, took by BP and asked me a few questions and then brought me into an exam room where I waited almost 30 minutes before someone came in to say "I'm sorry my Operations Manager said we can't do this because if we do it wrong we don't want to be liable" her exact explanation. ??? Then she tells me they can't refund me, but then when I got visibly upset and started crying she got flustered and was like well I can't refund you right now but maybe later. What do you mean??? Incredibly uncomfortable and unprofessional situation. RUN FAR FROM THIS PLACE AND THE PEOPLE WHO WORK HERE. THEY ARE ACTUALLY STEALING PATIENTS MONEY AND CONNING THEM. Go somewhere else save your money. Go to an actual doctor or clinic. Not only did this whole disaster occur but the place was filthy, there was like no one in back working there which I thought was also odd. It seemed like they themselves felt inconvenienced that I made an appointment to have this done because about 15 minutes into waiting in the exam room they came in to say "this is going to cost $129" like what? I said yeah, okay I thought we went over that even though now it's gone up an additional $9 (maybe I heard wrong). She looked disappointed and I continued to wait. They charged me for an appointment I never had. They didn't do anything and I never even saw a doctor I don't think they even have one there. Like how unprofessional, you could've at least had a doctor perform a checkup if you were going to charge me $199 just to walk through the door. Pretty sure this place is a front for something else. So bizarre and disgusting.
