Hearth & Home Specialties - New PCB board for electric fireplace. Matthew (Matt) replaced

I really appreciate the team at Hearth and Home! My fireplace needed a repair because it stopped…read moreworking (probably since I have it on 24/7 for several years lol), so I contacted the office and spoke with Adela ext 113. She was friendly and made me feel like a valued customer. We discussed the costs, my warranty, and how everything would work with the repair. Matthew (Matt) was the tech who was sent to diagnose the issue and he called when he was on the way, arrived on time, and was responsive via text as well. He always respected my home and put down covers and cleaned up afterwards. He is a very friendly, neat, organized, polite, and efficient guy! Matt knew exactly what the issue was after trouble shooting (I had the breaker off and turned on to hear and show what was happening with the clicking sound. He ordered the part and I paid for the service call, which was reasonable. Plus, it's one fee and includes even when he comes back to install the part. Once the part was shipped and arrived at the office, Adela called to schedule and made sure the time was convenient for me, and Matt arrived this morning during the 8am-12pm window. He had the part, opened up my fireplace, and installed the new PCB board!! He was done within 30 minutes. I'm so excited to see my fireplace working again! For the payment, I paid online and got the receipt emailed. Super easy and convenient. Thanks so much!

This recent service, my pilot just stop working. Thought that maybe it was just the pilot that needed to be replaced, but it just wouldn't stay lit. My technician Matt would not give up to find the problem. After many calls between him and his team and the manufacturer, a couple of trips, Matt figured it out! He also made my fireplace look like new! They are reasonably priced, but they go all out to make sure things are in working condition and that their customers are happy! From the management, reception and technicians, this company is by far the best I've ever worked with! I highly recommend them and if you can ask for Matt (tech) you will definitely be getting great service! Thanks again Hearth and Home for keeping my fireplace running!! Kim Phillips

I picked this company based on yelp reviews (!!!) and they responded almost immediately to my request for service on a gas fireplace I said I haven't used since moving in 4+ years ago. The house is about 25 years old, and I said I wanted to make sure it was a) safe to use, b) functioning, and c). I'd be shown how to operate it. The next day the owner and wife came over, pleasant to deal with. Aside from that positive thing, when they were here I noticed that they didn't do much or seem to have any kind of process. There was no "inspection," or anything taken apart or looked other than the pilot cover (or grate or whatever it's called). The fireplace would not turn on with the wall switch and they did change the switch (which was quick) and then it turned on. I asked if the unit should be cleaned and he said "eh, probably not." I mentioned I'd lost family in a fatal fire and was concerned about safety, so I'm not sure how they determined the chimney was safe because nothing was looked at. They did show me how to push the pilot light button and that's it. Whole thing was maybe 20 minutes, then they left, and I zelled them the money. I also messaged that I might refer a friend and right away got a "thanks!" A few hours later, I flipped the fireplace on (fine), looked over 10 minutes later and the flame was out. I messaged them right away - nothing. Three days later sent another message (maybe something extraordinary happened)? - nothing. Two days after that (today) I messaged again - zero rsponse. So .... out a fee, no working fireplace, and would not feel confident that it's safe anyway. IDK the qualifications of this person (I will ASK next time) but their service and communication get an F. My advice is don't use this company and be very careful who services something that could cause a fire (and god knows what else) in your house. This town has flakes and I was just stuck with another one.

I just moved into my new home, the fireplace didn't work and I don't know much about them…read more I contacted Charlie, based on other's reviews. He came out when promised, was on time and very kind. After looking at my fireplace, he told me that it should be in fine working order, but it wasn't working because it didn't have the burner. The gas line had been capped and all that was in there were the logs. When he said that, it was an 'aha moment'...I felt quite dumb asking him out for nothing. He was honest with me and said that he doesn't typically 'install', when there's nothing wrong with a fireplace. He said that it is very simple to do, and I could do it myself. He spent the next 15 minutes walking me through the process and informing me about my fireplace and what size burner to get and where I could get it. He shared important safety information with me as well. I could tell that he probably wasn't going to charge me for his visit, so I offered $20 and a solid review of my experience on yelp. Charlie was clearly the kind of businessman that wouldn't take advantage of ignorant people. This is the most important quality in any business. He certainly could have milked me for money, bought what I needed and charged me to install it. Instead he taught me how to do it myself and gave me safety tips and tips on how to save money as well. I will certainly refer to him anyone I can, and call on him whenever my fireplace truly needs repair.

Her gas fireplace was originally working for the inspection, but unfortunately the pilot light got turned off since she moved in. She had tried to fix it in her own, but the glass was screwed on so tightly that she wasn't able to get access. In addition, the glass had become foggy and clearly had not been cleaned for a long while. After opening it, it seemed like the previous owner had tried to burn real wood in the gas fireplace. Charlie was able to get the glass off, which took quite a bit of effort. He fixed the pilot light and adjusted the flames. It works perfectly now.

So I see a lot of mixed reviews on here about this company. I get where some of them were coming…read morefrom because the communication is lacking and I will be thorough with my answer because I had an ok experience, some parts better than others. I had reached out to a few places because our gas fireplace wasn't working and we wanted to get it fixed. The first place to get back to me, told me that it may be an older fireplace so it may be impossible to find parts for it and blah, blah, blah. They didn't seem to care to help me out and might I add, this was coming from one of the highly rated places on here. They wanted a lot of money to come out to diagnose it and even then, they told me they may not be able to fix it. They were quick to respond, but didn't try to help me at all. Not what I wanted to hear. The second one was Joel. He told me he'd come to check it and diagnose it for me and if he doesn't do any work on it, he's not going to charge me anything. I figured it was worth a shot with him checking it for free. Now to get into my experience with him. Let's start with the good: His work was good. He came in, put his blanket down to work on, got out some tools and went right to work. He took apart and cleaned our fireplace. Within a short time, he knew exactly what was wrong with it. The switch on the wall was bad. He switched it out, tested everything and now it works perfectly. He was in and out in maybe a half an hour. He knows his stuff. His pricing was also very reasonable compared to the other one that didn't seem to care to get my business. The not so good: Communication isn't the greatest. He originally replied pretty quick and then, my fault for taking a few days to get back to him, but after that, communication took longer and by the time he was coming, I hadn't got a clear answer about an appointment time or anything and all of a sudden, he's at my house. I wish he would've called a few hours ahead to give me an actual appointment time, so I would've had a head's up that he was coming. I had to get all of the dogs situated and hadn't gone to the bank to get cash or anything. I definitely wasn't prepared for him. Communication is definitely where I would say there's an issue, but he did come the day he said he would try to fit me in on and he did fix our fireplace, so I can't say I had a horrible experience.

Why is zero stars not an option?…read more I missed their callback to schedule an appointment and they left a voicemail that directed me to call them back. I did so and they did not answer and had a full mailbox. I waited and nobody called back. I texted them later that day and told them the situation and that they could schedule for whenever was convenient for them. They responded and told me they would be there at 2pm a few days later. I said 'That sounds great. See you guys then.' I come home early at 1:00pm to ensure someone is there in case they decided to show up early, as service people like to do (when they're not showing up late). Day of service at 2:00pm, they did not show up or call/text to inform me they would be late. Surprise; I assume they are running behind and decide to give them 30 minutes or so to see if they show up or call/text. They do not show up or call/text. I texted them a little after 2:30pm inquiring about an ETA and they apologized for not updating me and assured me they were running a little behind... 'but you are next', 'he is coming real soon', 'within one hour' and that I could reschedule if necessary. I told them I was open to either (whatever works for them) and could wait since they were close, but could also reschedule if it was easier for them. They assured me he was on his way and that 'he will be there' (within one hour). At 4:30pm (two hours later) nobody had called/texted or showed up. I called them and nobody answered and again, the mailbox was full. I texted and informed them that I would need to leave at 5:30pm and if they couldn't be here, I would need to reschedule because it would be too late. They did not respond at all. At 6:30pm (another two hours later and after I left) I texted them that nobody ever showed up or called or texted to respond or let me know that they weren't showing up. Bubbles popped up like they were reading it or writing something... but no response. Around 6:40pm they respond and tell me they were close by and could stop by in a minute... SMH. This is obviously after 5:30pm. This is also now 4 hours and 40 minutes late from the time that they chose and without ever contacting me about being late; I had to keep asking after they kept not showing up at the times they chose and said. I tell them that I am, as previously stated, now busy (sitting down to eat our dinner) and it was too late and I would need to reschedule. I also tell them that I did not appreciate them wasting half my day and would like it if someone could show up within a reasonable time; at least call/text me when you're going to be late (hopefully beforehand) and then actually stick to that time. Bubbles pop up again, like they're reading it or responding. Bubbles go away after a minute. Many hours elapse. They just totally stopped responding... Maybe you'll have better luck...Or not...? *UPDATE* Probably not. Finally got ahold of him. He then did this again today. Scheduled for 3:30pm and then when I inquired to confirm this AM... He never responded to multiple calls and many texts. Insane. **UPDATE 2** SMH. I just realized I should have simply utilized the community (Yelp) like I usually do and I would have known that 'No Call/No Show' is just how they operate. *sigh* ***UPDATE 3*** They must have seen the reviews (as they use Google and Yelp) and suddenly they appeared and had justifications for why this all happened. I simply explained that they had poorly represented their business and would no longer accept communications from them. Image attached.
