We recently bought a new house (yay!) but it needed some repairs before we could move in. Called them up and Roger was happy to help us. He was able to come out basically the next day and help prep the walls for painting and there were so many holes for him to cover! I was living in a completely uninhabitable house because my landlord was unwilling to repair anything so my house deteriorated to the point that I had no bathrooms with working showers, the toilets weren't bolted to the floors, cabinets were missing, there were holes outside in the walls that let vermin in, the stove didn't work, there were leaks, the floor was destroyed, and I was completely miserable thinking that I was going to be stuck like this forever. Doug has a GREAT response time, he is speedy at answering requests for his services and when he got to our house, he explained a lot about the mechanisms of a toilet in terms of engineering while repairing or rather simply readjusting it and giving out a step-by-step approach on how to repair the toilet if small steps don't work such as simply replacing the flush valve and even having to replace the entire tank if necessary - most of what he said I never knew before - which could prove that Doug has both completed trading school and has many years of experiencing in trade. I contacted this company for a quote on my daughter's behalf. The job was to remove and dispose of carpet/padding in 2 bedrooms, install underlayment and laminate flooring that she purchased from Home Depot, remove/dispose/replace baseboards in both rooms. Doug was responsive and provided a cost estimate that wasn't the cheapest we got, but definitely in line with expectations. About a week later, the day the work was to begin, she (daughter) was told Doug's flooring guy had Covid and she would have to wait until he was better. Furniture from both rooms had been moved to the living room, which was also filled with 20 boxes of flooring and 3 rolls of underlayment; but not unsympathetic to illness, she waited a week with her house disrupted without complaint. The morning John did show up, he was clearly still not feeling well and left at noon. He only managed to remove the baseboards, carpet & padding, which he put in the garage. There was no indication when he'd return. Several days later, Doug sent two men to lay the flooring and replace the original baseboards (his suggestion, she was willing to buy new ones) which had been damaged during removal. Doug assured they would be repaired, caulked and painted as part of his quote. The floors were done quickly and look great. The guys did an excellent job laying the laminate, hence the two stars. But then Doug said he couldn't get back out to work on the baseboards and to paint one of the rooms (a separate agreement) for another week to 10 days because he was busy. Given the length of time already invested, and the fact all the furniture remained in the cramped living room, she said she'd find someone else. At that point, Doug not only wanted to be paid the full amount of the quote, but asked for $700 to be paid in cash immediately and given to one of the floor installers because he needed to pay for his truck repair, with the balance sent electronically (the original agreement) asap. After some back and forth, she decided to pay the full amount just to be done with the headache, and paid it electronically. (Who has $700 cash laying around and why should she make a special trip on a holiday weekend to an ATM?) It took the bank two days to make the transfer, during which time Doug contacted her that there was an urgent need for the money (she had initially offered to pay half up front, but Doug said it wasn't necessary since he was only supplying labor, not materials) and could she make sure there wasn't a problem. Ultimately, she ended up paying an additional $350 to have someone else haul away and dispose of the old carpet, padding and empty flooring boxes, which were all just left in the garage; she also paid an additional $250 to repair and paint the baseboards, all of which was part of the original quote, but left undone. The initial reasonable cost turned out to be a whole lot more. Doug is a very nice man, but he exhibited no sense of urgency to complete the work, there was too much left undone creating additional delays and expense, but didn't hesitate to pressure to pay, without deducting for the disposal and work that hadn't been completed. read more

I have had a project that was abandoned by a vendor contracted through Lumber Liquidator - they left all the transitions undone. If you do not purchase wood through someone, or it is a small job, you get little response. I reached out to Doug in November of 2021 for an estimate to rehab the kitchen and two bathrooms. Doug met me at the property and provided me with an estimate, and the rest was history. We began rehab in December of 2021 and finished March 2022. It took a little longer than expected, but Just like any construction/rehab work, there are a lot of unforeseen circumstances and issues that come up.
